Just started this show and I am now on season 2. It's quite enjoyable even though some of the characters and situations are completely unrealistic.

What would you all rate each season? If I am on season 2, is the best yet to come?

Wife and I are on Season 1 Episode 12...love it so far.

EDIT: I hear Season 2 is the low point of the show.

Once you get past season 2, which is easily the worst, you're in for some awesome.

I'd even say the last half of Season 2 is really good.

Only watch Season 2 if you're committed to seeing it all through, since it's easily the weak point and it won't hurt you for continuity reasons. It's pretty forgettable, although it contains one of my favorite scenes in the entire series.

it was on for 5 seasons. Is that considered good? did it end just at the right time? again, please no spoilers :)

I could see this with season 2, but season 1? Nahhh.

Anyways, brace yourself for season 3. It's so good.

Just tear through season 2 and enjoy the goodness after.

I just finished this myself. Fantastic show, and one of the best finales I've seen.

My wife and I are on season 1, probably going to be watching episode 13 tonight. So far we've enjoyed it, even if the writing heavy handed at times. She's totally hooked, and I'm getting there too. So far, a nice show.

I loved every season of it, it was a great show. It ended in a very conclusive manner and I was satisfied with the whole thing..except one character thing.

I am bailing on this thread now. I have stayed spoiler free for too long on this show to get something spoiled now.

yea, I guess I mean season 2 unrealistic situations. it almost feels like it jumps the shark in S2 so far......

Yeah pretty much. It regains it's footing in S3 though, then it's smooth sailing all the way from there. :)

The second season is still pretty enjoyable.

Yes, as much as I rag on S2, it's still great television. Just, by comparison with the other seasons, it's certainly the low point.

Just started season 3. Did they axe Jason street from the show?

Keep watching. He gets a goodbye arc (man tears style).

Sometimes this is my favorite show, ever. It bounces around between this, Lost and The Wire. I love this show so much.

It ended perfectly. S3 is my favorite season of tv, period. And gracie bell has a huge freaking head. It goes down a bit in S5 though.

One of my favorite shows ever. Season two is definitely my least favorite season, but some people make it sound like it's the most insufferable season of television ever created. It isn't THAT bad. In fact, I wouldn't call it bad, it's just not as good as the rest of the series.

It's not as bad (compared to the rest of the series) as the Wire Season 5 was to be honest.

I think Friday Night Lights is the best example of American values presented on modern television. Does anyone think that statement is hyperbolic?

It's a shame it didn't get more attention when it was airing. And yes, I will admit I was part of that problem. I just had no interest in watching a show about football. But after hearing all the praise around here, I gave Season 1 a try on Netflix Instant. Wow, I was addicted from Episode 1.

I left Austin, TX in 2007 but I remember my ex girlfriend and her family use to be extras on the show. They'd get picked up in a bus on Friday afternoons and did crowd shots and stuff at the high school. I think a lot of people were getting decent easy paychecks from that for awhile. Haha

This is one of those shows that was a victim of its own writing and marketing. It was too smart to be another teen drama like most people expected, and it doesn't revolve around football as much as the people that avoided it would think.

I've never met anyone that didn't cry during that episode.
I don't think I cried, but that's not to say it didn't get an emotional response out of me. :(

I'm not exactly sure what constitutes as "American values." I blame conservatives.

Fantastic show - it was just a real feel good show and coach is probably one of my favourite characters ever. The pilot immediately had me hooked.

But seriously guys, season 2 was actually THAT bad. You could pretty much skip the entire season and not have missed anything significant. Only explanation is that the NBC guys tried to intervene and make it more appealing to the public or something... cause that shit was WTF. Fortunately the show recovered.

No it wasn't. The beginning of season three wouldn't have been as sweet without Smash's arc in season two. I'll agree that that whole
murder subplot was awful. As was Lyla's Christian phase.

Wife and i watched seasons 1-3 last fall before we had our first kid. The randomly yesterday I suggested starting up season 4 and tonight jjust finished season 4. :)

Still good. Still very predictable but you just escape into this small Texas town for 42 minutes at a time. Such a nice show to watch.

Fucking Riggins.

Funny thing, a number of characters in the series could be described as conservatives.:p

One of my favourite shows.

S1 - 5/5
S2 - 3/5
S3 - 5/5
S4 - 4/5
S5 - 5/5

Overall an excellent show, i think I'll start my first rewatch soon.

I have read that Season 5 has a new cast...but on the thumbnail on Netflix for the first episode, I saw that Luke and Vince were there...

So is it just Seracen that's gone? WE BETTER GET MORE RIGGINS :(

Is this show worth it if I can't stand football? I really hate stories about how football players are heroes and go through so much so they can triumph on the field but I've heard such universally great things about this show that I'm curious if this'll be enjoyable for me.

There is nothing like that here. In fact the later seasons have little to no football at all.

It might not seem that way in the first few episodes but give it time.

Kyle Chandler's performance in this show is nasty good. I don't know what it is, but I love watching him. I think it's because he reminds me of a lot of people I grew up around.

Such a great show. Kinda wish I didn't go through it so fast last year but it was sooo good. It's one of the few shows that had me holding back tears on occasion.

Both he and Connie are amazing together.

I want my wife to be more like Connie.

Though I'm sure she wishes I was more like Kyle...

So...

Yeah.

I was actually surprised Coach didn't get more love in that recent "Best Leading TV Actor" thread.

We're about 1/4 through Season 3. The show is great, but I want to punch
the new QB's dad in the face.
That's intentional though, so it's just a sign of good writing and directing.

I live in Sweden and I can't a single rule of american fotball but it's still one of my favorite series of all time. The focus is mainly about what happens off the field.

One thing I don't see people mention about this show that seems to get overlooked is just the environment in general. Beautiful skies in the background almost all the time. Makes me want to live there.

I watched Season 1 over the summer and really enjoyed it.

I watched the first episode of Season 2 and then stopped watching completely.

Is there anywhere I can read a quasi-detailed summary of Season 2 so I can just skip watching it and move on to Season 3? I'd honestly given up on the show after you know what happened.

Just keep watching. There is a lot of good stuff in there amidst a few network-mandated soap opera-y plot points like that one in S2. Its the weakest season, for sure, but it gets better. And from S3 onward it was on DirecTV and had no network tinkering.

i think you should resume watching where you left off. while season 2 is the weakest season (primarily due to writing strikes), it does contain a lot of plot points and strands that carry over to following seasons.
