Season 2 was not as good as the others but it still have plenty of moving scenes and memorable moments. You're in for a great ride OP, this show is one of my favorite of all time!

Season 1 - fantastic in every way

Season 2 - huge drop off; writers strike was going on and it shows

Season 3 - tries to bring back the good feels from season 1, does a pretty good job

Seasons 4&5 I haven't watch but they get a lot of praise

Edit: Garaz, no insult intended, but what type of tv watcher is your gf? Is she the shallow type that just likes the hot guys and simple shows? I don't know how someone could say FNL is the OC with football. I just can't.

You absolutely are part of the target audience. Being American or liking football has nothing to do with the show. It's the characters and the drama that comes from it that's great. Football is just a vehicle, a setting for these people's lives.

When a FNL thread comes up my balls tingle.

I've been rewatching s1 recently. "State" remains one of my favourite season finales ever and the lead-up episodes are sublime.

It's worth getting through season 2 because the writers do their darnedest to rectify that dreadful story turn in the premiere (not fully succeeding, but it lessens the taint to two of my fave characters) and there are still bright spots throughout every episode. There's still lots of great character moments and hilarious lines sprinkled among the soap operatic subplots and Mr and Mrs Coach remain awesome throughout.

The growing pains experienced in season 2 resulted in the writers honing what worked and what didn't and the show never goes over the line into soap opera again, so i guess i appreciate it on that level.
