Fuck this, refilm the whole damn thing with the cast of the Shield! Goggins for Skywalker. Both of them!

Dutch and Claudette = C3PO and R2D2?

Reading this thread is depressing.
I didn't know Lucas said he destroyed the original negatives. Fuck you!
I had totally forgotten Boba fett got a new shittier voice (long time since I saw the special editions)
What pisses me off the most is the feeling that he still doesn't think the downgraded films and new trilogy are mistakes at all. The line "I may have gone a bit too far in places" talking about Phantom is the only ounce of contrition I have ever seen.

I would prefer the original cut but either way I'm pretty damn excited about this news.
I've watched the original trilogy like a thousands times but I could watch it at least another thousand times without getting tired of it. I bet it's gonna look real nice in 1080p.

So how are Lucas going to 'improve' this edition?

There was talk a while back of Lucas redoing Yoda in Phantom, to make him look more in line with the other movies. Maybe he is saving that for the inevitable 3D "special editions".

Lucas can piss around with all 6 movies all he wants - as long as the set has the original cuts I won't care.

However, no original cuts = no sale.

Is this going to feature all the new shit or is it going to be classic version?
they'll probably be the new shit.

I'm curious to see how they upgraded the original films, considering the original source film got destroyed?

YES! :D

Finally gonna put PS3 to use as a BluRay player. :lol

Does anyone have any idea on how much is this collection going to cost judging by past releases?

The original Ewok music fucking sucked, changing that was one of the few things i actually agreed with in the special editions, i mean the new music made me feel so much happier and uplifted.

Does anyone have a source for lucas destroying the originals? I've searched but couldnt find anything. In any case I find it extremely unlikely that this has happened.

I hope they only include the Special Editions just to piss you all off.

There is no source for that because he didn't do it. Some one got some wires crossed with the Star Wars Holiday Special, which he has tried to get rid of.

Hey Garry i think you can still get the Laser Disc versions, it's the version my rich friends dad owned the set. I watched the Special Editions on DVD and cried. An Entire generation won't know that jabba was a fat dude in a fur coat.

Oh my god, I can see the announcement now.

"Lucas replaces all version of Yoda with new CG model."

"Frank Oz's puppet just couldn't capture the charm and life of the character that I wanted. Yoda is also now bright purple, glows, and speaks in ebonics. This was my original vision but could not be achieved when we originally shot Empire Strikes Back. With these changes, the artists full vision has not finally been realized."

Awesome, about time. Also I must be one of the few people on the planet that likes the special edition etc.. versions better.

Hopefully just Episode I Yoda-- that puppet was god awful, I would welcome a CGI Yoda over that any day :lol

Anyway, YESSS. So excited. It's Lucasfilm so the picture quality and audio will just be fucking stupid.

Nobody should need to know that since that scene was totally pointless.

Yes, yes, you are.

Me personally, I really don't care.

I didn't mind that change with Hayden since Anakin "died" on Mustafar, he never really got to be the healthy old man we saw. He looked like this

I don't blame him for wanting to look like his healthy, younger self.

Lucas needs to take a note from Star Trek. The remastered/updated episodes of the Original Series are how it's supposed to be done. They didn't change characters, story, scene, etc. They cleaned things up, updated the SFX for interior shots, and did full CGI makeovers of all external shots. Then they re-scored the music with modern equipment. It's glorious.

Why is there such hate on the special editions compared to the original versions? i haven't watched them in a while. But i remember them being completely fine, and my first experience with star wars was the original version on VHS.:lol

Really just comes down to throwing in extra stuff where it was unneeded and changing a few parts (eg. Han Shot First), See my above post about Star Trek. If Lucas had just updated the sfx and cleaned things up, there would be little issue.

It's so amazing to me how their ability to create a living breathing Yoda seemed to actually decrease even as the tools at their disposal improved. I agree the CGI Yoda wasn't bad but the Ep I puppet was an abomination. Nothing comes close to the original though.

I thought the CGI Yoda was great, getting expressions out of puppets is very impressive, but they needed Yoda to do more than just talk. Love it or hate it, at least it was a consistent design choice.

Because the majority of Star Wars fans think the OT is their's because they saw it in a theater when they were 5.

It would be like if Nintendo went and took Super Mario Bros and turned Bowser into a frog, and then said that's the new version of the game.

Me, I didn't see any of the OT in a theater (born in 82), so I don't have that same nostalgia attachment to the series that people who did do.

I don't mind the changes because it didn't change the overall story. Everything in the story remains the same.

This. So much hard this. Other people can suck it. I enjoy every single episode of Star Wars. It's the man's legacy, give him his due.

Then you should be upset too because with every re-releases Lucas is dismantling his legacy. Why do you think people say Jordan should have retired as a Bull?

Well, they could have all versions on one disc thanks to dynamic branching.

But im sure ill hate whatever lucas decide to do!

I'm sorry, I hate some of the changes Lucas has made as much as everyone but the rotj ending music is terrible in the original, the new music is vastly superior.

I don't see what I gain from hating. I usually try and focus on the good points.

What did I love about the new films?

1)The music! :D

2)I TPM I loved the last Duel.

3) I AOTC I loved the last fight with yoda, and the fight with all the jediz

4) Revenge of the Sith, I REALLY like. I would rank episode 3 of with the old ones!

its his legacy to dismantle. He doesn't OWE anyone the OT on bluray.

Gary Whitta said:
I just want my original ROTJ ending with the original non-shitty Ewok victory music

Yeah...no.

Good riddance. The new one was MUCH better, and actually satisfying for an ending to a six movie saga.

Teetris said:
So should I go for this if I want to get into Star Wars?

Maybe.

Star Wars is great. In my opinion, the movies are actually not the reason I became a Star Wars fan, it was all the other content like videogames that enriched me into the universe.

Sorry George, you have proven that you don't give a shit about the fans so I'm done paying you for your movies.

And I'm certainly not paying for 1-3 if that's the only way to get the Blu-Rays.

More for everyone else.

Yes fuck myself. I hate what Lucas has done, but I'm still going to be there day one sucking his cock while handing him my cash.

We all are.

You speak for yourself. I'm pretty sure most of us wouldn't touch these with Bea Arthur's dick, myself included.

I would assume -$199 MSRP?
for all six movies

They probably end up around $100 or so on Amazon. I am such a sucker for these that I would pay $500 if the transfers were perfect.

I agree with the music.

The reason I like the Prequel Trilogy is because of the story. Much better, interesting and deeper than the simplistic Original Trilogy.

Problem is, the actual prequel movies are badly made movies.

Lucas's legacy with Star Wars is the tech he used to make the movies, the way he made the movies, the universe he created.

All of that survives, no matter how many changes he makes to the films.

Exactly. Lucas had everything right with the PT (good characters and story) and he just plain messed it up. He's never been a really good director (that's the biggest issue I have with him).
