Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon |OT| Take ghost-busting to the Next Level

the last 2 boos in the second mansion are hard to find. i replayed both missions and no sign of them. i bet they're in a super dumb place i failed to check.

i'll advance to mansion 3 for now and will return later.

Man. Any lag in the mutiplayer kills it. Causing the oddest of glitches.

Carpet traps that are unpullable, my light and vacuum got frozen in place and possibily the funniest, I got a +10 time at the last second, but another player got placed in a "Failed" animation and lost the round.

Just finished, uh, B-3 I think it was? The one introducing
Toad in the crypt
. Taking it slow, still having loads of fun. So far I haven't missed any Boos the first time through the missions, which is nice since I'd rather not replay the missions if I don't have to. Not sure whether I'm gonna go for 100% on the gems, although so far I haven't missed many.

This will be a good contender for my GOTY. My only annoyance so far is how money tends to get stuck on environmental objects. You can't always get it out with the vacuum. It's a little thing though, since cash is plentiful anyway.

I just finished the Mansion 4 Boss. I've been highly critical of the bosses other than the spider, but.....THIS was the hard boss everyone was bitching about? I finished it in 3 minutes on my second try with 3 stars, and had fun doing it. My first try was spent figuring out what the heck was going on and dying because I took too long to catch on lol, but once I figured it out I thought it was a nice battle. Plus, the boss reminded me of the Nome King in Return to Oz lol

Just finished this up tonight, this is the reason I love the great Nintendo games, so much charm, really just loved it, if I had to score it, 9.4 for me.

Going to complete for the extra missions

Got through the second mansion tonight. Some fun times and it's a nice change of pace coming off of Bioshock Infinite. Was under a water facet and Luigi gave himself a bath. Funny stuff.

Second mansion boss though was a bit of a bitch. Main fight was cool if a bit too easy.

Anyone interested in a 25 floor Hunter Scarescraper on hard? Have a room up for those that are.

Edit: Gave up. Some other time I guess

Edit2: Random people online are seriously the worst. Ran out of time on a Poulterpup floor, of all fucking things.

Edit3: LOL got to the last floor on an expert run. Three of us were knocked out, and instead of trying to revive us, this idiot keeps trying to capture all the henchghosts and gets killed. Thx bro.

Someone has to say it: the Toads are annoying in battles. Running around in front of you when you attack a ghost, this damn screaming... Outside the battles they are really f*cking cute and helpful, obviously.

onto the second mansion, I can see this game lasting me a while as the hunt for all the gems, boos etc will make it worth replaying, not to mention the charm of this game.

still my possible GoTY 2013

Not very pleased.

I got to Mission B2, and was most of the way done with it. I lost all of the sound, and then when I tried to press the Home button to see if that would fix it, the whole thing crashed.

Anyone else had issues with this? This is the first time ever my 3DS has crashed.

I enjoyed Luigis mansion 1 very much, but im not so sure im in love with multiple castles instead of one big one. And i played a demo at a game stop and the controls didnt thrill me. (Gyro to aim? Thats kinda weird..)

What makes this game worth it?

Yeah, I wonder if some of these bugs are directly connected to either version (DL/retail) of the game.

Anyway, the second mansion is really fun so far. I really dig the new mechanics. No bugs or issues so far (knock on wood).

Get it.

No, seriously! If you enjoyed the first one as much as you say you did, then chances are extremely high that this is a game you will greatly appreciate. Of course there are some who like the first and aren't fond of this, but it's a chance worth taking. There are very few games the past few years which have been so rewarding of player exploration and creative thinking. A lot has been said of the atmosphere, charm (!) and animations, but the actual game mechanics are solid, enjoyable, interesting and rewarding.

As said, the gyro controls are optional and I would suspect the majority of this thread have never utilised it on purpose. You will only ever be required to face the direction of an object/ghost and either aim up or down. Very simple, there is very little need for another analogue stick and therefore the gyro controls.

Come on, just get it! Oh, it's also a fantastic palette-cleanser from AP bursting all day ;).

Retail copy.

It took a long time of holding down the power button for it to turn off; I'll be trying again tomorrow.

I don't know whether I contributed to it; I closed my 3DS to go and answer the telephone, and when I opened it, I realised a little while later the sound was gone entirely. That was when I tried to press the Home button and it froze.

Maybe it has issues with the system being closed?

Just beat 4th boss, I don't know what's all the fuss about it. I think it's a matter of timing, once you get it it's quite easy. But yeah, as a boss is clearly the worst one. It doesn't even change his pattern nor attack you...

I did it today too. Five minutes. No health lost. Just a bad boss though.

Finished it. Fifth and final boss... Weren't great. Ugh. Only boss to really stick with me was the first. Disappointing.

Good game though. Will play multilayer (and collect what I've missed).

Did the first couple missions in Mansion #3. Loving this game the more I play it. I'm getting better at finding hidden stuff and exploring everything.

At first I was disappointed that the third mansion was really small but then doing the second mission it added a whole ton of stuff down below. It's more of an underground mansion than above ground

All total with 100% the first two mansions and doing the first two missions of the third, I'm at close to 14 hours played. That's with not looking anything up and not moving on from a mansion until I have all collectibles. I expected a 10 hour game in all honesty and this has exceeded my expectations in just about every facet of the game.

Man, that first boss really is everything it was hyped up to be.

One of the best examples I've seen of using previously learnt gameplay mechanics in a new and challenging way, while being exciting and fun.
Shame that apparently the other bosses don't live up to it and some are downright bad. Makes me wonder how the design for them is so inconsistent.

Next Level just keep impressing me with animations, too. They never stop introducing awesome animation! (at least by the first mansions end)

Just did the infamous second bossa and buildup.

I can understand why many could find it annoying. But I only fell to the bottom 3 times, so it didn't bother me. The ghosts in this part are too basic for the area to be considered "difficult" at all, so you have to wonder why they othered with it. Still, I had fun with the whole level. The boss itself was not difficult, but pretty much fell in line with what I expected. In fact, I thought the design of the "steps" themselves was cool, especially when Luigi put them up when he was done,

I found the fifth mansion to be a complete disappointment.
To have the first mission be yet another "chase the dog" mission, and then another "find the toad mission! but get this: there's two! WOW!". And one of the five missions is just a boss, and then the actual boss is just suits of armor that fall for the same trick they did in the level you met them on. And the "run around the mansion and suck up 50 ghosts" mission was lazy filler and not even challenging. The mansion itself was boring and uninspired after the amazing design of 2, 3, and 4. How could they follow up an overgrown twin tower mansion with a giant tree, a clockwork mansion with a sandy crypt, and a snowy mine mansion with....a regular mansion, with portals that take you like 2 rooms over :(

Agreed, it's a Disappointing Last Level through and through. By the end I was just pushing through to beat it. Bosses were lame too, though I did enjoy the
King Boo chase parts.

Also (ending spoilers)
the Polterpup is the cutest thing ever.

Not that I'm attempting it, but is anyone going to 100% the scarescraper ghosts?

Just started playing, would someone be able to put a Luigi hat on the dog in my avatar?

Got the game recently and I'm at the end of the second mansion. I'm taking my time with each level, spending upwards of am hour on each just prodding and poking everything. The music, animations and graphics are terrific. The cinematics are funny, and the whole game is full of charm and life. Luigi is most definitely the best brother!

I have however encountered a few glitches. The sound effects sometimes mute but the music continues. Apart from that it's all great!

I have owned my 3DS since launch but still have no friends on it lol so I'd love to add some of you guys! Would I just post my universal friend code here?

Haven't played any multiplayer yet but I might try some download play with my brother. The download play is fully featured right? Anyways take care guys and continue getting them ghosts! :p

Yes it is! My sister and I played together online with two other people, and I was on download play. I wish all multiplayer games are like this.

That's brilliant! It's just so much more convenient since I have my launch 3DS sitting about! Was sad to see NSMB2 requiring a copy per person.

Absolutely adore this game. Only on the second mission of the first mansion, and it's just a blast to play. Seriously, I get excited thinking about playing it hours down the line. I used to get that feeling as a kid all the time, but it rarely happens these days. This is why Nintendo continues to remain relevant, despite their obvious hardware missteps. No one makes games like this.

The graphics in this game are so fucking good, specially during the parts the game runs at 60fps. Ridiculously good looking that Luigi.

Just beat the game FINALLY. Also unlocked Surprise mode (kicks ass)

Mansions from fav to least: 4>1>3>2>5. I love the winter/snow/mine setting a lot.

Bosses from fav to least: 5>3>1>4>2.

Overall best 20 dollar game I ever bought. A very worthy sequel to the LM gamecube classic. Only complaint is I wish there were more unique ghosts like the first game, and maybe three very giant mansions instead of 5. I did like how the first game's mansion was a giant open world in a sense?

Anyone down for a 25 floor Scarescraper on hard or a shorter game on expert? Have a room up for the former if anyone is interested.

Edit: Have one in, going to give it a few if anyone else wants in.

I somewhat disagree.
while i definetly agree that the polterpup and toad escort missions started to wear thin. I thought the polterpup mission was actually pretty good and the toad escort mission was especially clever with the entire mansion being one gigantic puzzle that you had to solve. Every mid mansion level was a miniboss so I'm not entirely sure what you were expecting. Although I found this one more interesting than all the other minibosses except for the three sisters. The catch 50 ghosts mission seemed like appropriate buildup to the conclusion. I thought the 5th boss also was the best boss outside of the first one. The final boss was fine outside the annoying chase sequence.
I definetly agree with you on repetitive missions and wish there was more variety. Having said that I thought even though the mission goal was the same I found most of the missions to be fun and varied enough that it didn't matter. The only dissapointing mansion for me was the third one. The first one was obviously the weakest mansion but it was a decent beginner mansion.

I love that you get a

when you complete 25 levels in multiplayer. I feel special.

Is there ever an unlockable or something that makes replaying levels more enjoyable? I find the idea of trying to 3 star a level in this game annoying due to having to take DS calls and constantly skip stuff. It just seems like a bad game to try and score attack but maybe i'm missing something?

Like the game though.
