Luigi's Mansion 2 Official Site is up, lots of new info

Never played the first game. So what's the "fun factor" in a game like this? I want to check this out but I have no idea what I'm going into.

It's a lot of different puzzles trying to make your way around the mansion and capture different types of ghosts.

I was like 12 when it came out and I haven't played it since then but it was honestly one of my favorite GameCube games and really blew my mind at the time.

You have to have a suspension of disbelief and forget all your notions of HD and modern gaming.

Think of it as playing a Game Boy game, only with 3D.

Graphics and effects were better than Super Mario Galaxy

I always wonder why they never made this sequel for the wii.
Just one of many bizarre decisions from Nintendo regarding their franchises. A point, aim and shoot game like that was built for the Wii. It would have sold in its droves. The crazy thing is, Nintendo could have made LM2 for Wii, released it during that barren 2009 spell (solving that issue), and still released Dark Moon this year without it seeming even slightly overkill for the franchise.

With the huge install base that Wii established I will never understand why Nintendo didn't take the chance to put all their franchises in the spotlight. F-Zero, Wave Race, Star Fox, LM, Kid Icarus all had an expanded audience to be introduced to but Nintendo ignored the chance. Luckily the latter two have made it to 3DS, but all of those above would have been million sellers, as the one surprise series release, Punch-Out, proved.

Ghost hunting. Humor. Poking around everywhere to find money. Lots of details and interaction. Clever puzzles.

Although that except for the money part (AND FOR SHAME) everything looks to be far better than in the first one.

Hell all that and it's just fun. It's really that simple. The first had a charm to it and was just fun.

Just preordered. Comes out literally on my birthday, a running trend started by Kid Icarus last year. I was really surprised this got announced, and I'm really looking forward to playing it.

Still not sure how the game will work with just one circle pad.

I thought they said each was smaller than the one in the first game, but in total, they would be larger than the first game's mansion.

The mansion in the first game was - if I remember rightly - split into three distinct segments. I have a sneaking suspicion it'll work out that each mansion in the sequel is roughly the size of one of those segments.

Well, it doesn't look like there is a camera that needs to be controlled. The view is positioned further back, closer to the player rather than behind Luigi. As if the 3DS's screen is one of the walls in the room. This allows you to see the much of the area around Luigi at once, eliminating the need for camera control.

Guide clumsy Luigi through massive ghost-infested mansions on an action-packed hunt for the pieces of the Dark Moon. Armed with the ghost-sucking Poltergust 5000 and other new gadgets, you'll have to capture ghosts, solve puzzles, and battle monster-sized bosses. Can you and Luigi™ build up the courage to save the day?

Hahaha.

I'm loving how this game is turning out. Feels like they're taking an old classic and making it into a true marvel.

can't wait to play this game!
already tried the demo at some event, I think some people will complain for the lack of dual analog, but I started feeling the control scheme right after few minutes. everything else is great, just hoping for a good longevity

This has become my most anticipated game this year.

It's tied with MH3U and Pokemon Y for me. So fricking excited it has online and local multiplayer. Gonna play the frick out of this with peeps at PAX.

I love the music from the game, and the renders that look a bit like clay are awesome.

Really hope this game is good and works out well, so we can have weegee mansion for years!

I don't think he's talking about camera control. Didn't the original title effectively control like a twin-stick shooter with fishing mechanics (you sort of had to 'reel ghosts in')?

That's precisely what I meant. I guess the concept could work on one stick too.

I guess they replaced the need of the second stick by allowing you to mash the A button. Probably will have to use the circle pad to the opposite direction and mash the a button instead of moving both sticks the opposite direction of the ghost.

Why does E. Gadd asks for Luigi's help when Mario would probably more than suffice? He wouldn't even need a vacuum.

Probably because he knows Luigi much better than Mario, and Luigi is an experienced, bonafide ghost hunter. Mario just knows how to defeat ghosts, and Luigi can do that anyway.

Haha what? Galaxy is one if wii's best looking games. Mansion is a GC launch title. Makes no sense.

Galaxy makes no use of lighting effects look at the way Luigi's flashlight behaves with the environment those shadows are amazing. I've never seen a wii game do that.

I ordered this last week and got an email on Tuesday saying that they are out of stock and don't know when they can ship, for what it's worth.

Don't know how normal that is for items this far from release, it may mean nothing at all. Never dealt with Fry's before.

oooh thanks.

$2.99 shipping tho...

Ah yea, I don't think i've ever had anything ship from them before, usually just buy from the store. I went to the store to preorder this (never done a preorder with them before). Had to go to the software section to get a guy to confirm the preorder, print out an invoice and then go check out and get a pickup invoice. Manager said that they'll put a $30 hold on my card but won't actually charge me until I pick up.

Yeah Luigis Mansion is really impressive. Maybe the most technically impressive game that I've played from Nintendo.

Has anyone around here gotten any hands on time with this new game? I really find it hard to get excited for this game since the Wii or Wii U would have been much better fits for the game. If i remember correctly the C stick and Analog trigger were both really important and a huge part of what made Luigi's mansion work.

lol dat spoiler tag

It's been known for well over a year that it'll feature multiple mansions.

Relinquish your money to Miyamoto!

This is one of the games that I got a 3DS XL for and I am hyped for it, Luigi's Mansion is one of my favorite GC titles. I replayed that game many, many times.

Like I said before, second stick is replaced by either the gyro or the face buttons, whichever you prefer.

One of the better NoA commercials in recent memory

I dunno, I found it kinda bland. Certainly not bad though.

They should have mentioned online. I hope there's a more gameplay focused commercial in the future.

Anybody think there would be an XL bundle with this? I figure if there isn't a good bundle deal, I can wait till Animal Crossing comes out (surely there will be a good bundle, then, right?).

Don't think so. I'm assuming you're in NA. They are doing a promotion with Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and buying an XL and register both in Club Nintendo. You will get a free game from selected titles. So bundling both together seems unlikely.
