more apps support growl than NC so this is great.

I notice it doesn't sort them under their respective programs, but rather everything under "Growl", which I don't like. Can you change that? Also, clicking on anything under Growl, doesn't take me to the program.

Just curious, but what is the point of growl now that mail, messages etc are all in the notification center?

I wish it were the other way around. I'd prefer to funnel NC notifications to growl. NC is kinda buggy for me right now. I open it occasionally and see alerts I already clicked on and responded to still showing up in the NC.

Hi guys, Growl 2 is out. Adds support for sending Growl notifications directly to OSX Notification Center. Works great.
Just installed it and they're doing it all wrong. They have it as a global setting instead of a per-app setting. What good is that? Most of the apps I use that use Growl have notifications that are just for the moment. Like Bowtie when the song changes. I don't need to have a history of that in my NC sidebar. Or Hardware Growler. I don't need a history of that either. It's not something I need to go back and see listed. This should have been a per-app setting. Not a global setting. I waited for this feature for so long and they did it all wrong.

Figures. So disappointed. Oh well. At least I don't use too many apps with Growl anymore besides those two.

Don't want to start a new thread for this, but is iTunes down? Can't get access to any of my music because it's all on Match, but it can't connect.

[E] Connect finally came back just after posting!

Is Mountain Lion worth installing yet? Does it still cause all these problems and kill your battery?

My battery has slightly improved from the 10.8.2 update but it still goes all over the place =/ . Just doing very light internet browsing.

You mean to tell me when I do something on my computer, and then change what I am doing it gives me a very different estimation of how much battery time I have? Well I never...

Perhaps Apple needs to write a better AI to be able to predict what user on the computer will do in the future so that it can more accurately tell user how much time is available to do what the user will do.

The new iTunes is available to download, right? I know public release is in October but I heard there is a beta available now and anyone can download it. Is it stable enough to use in its current state?

Man, I could have sworn I saw posts about a beta in the conference thread few weeks ago. Another month wait is going to be hard. I doubt we get it early October. When Apple gives us just the month, it usually ends up being near the end of it.

So guys, I want to format my macbook (I have Mountain Lion on it) without burning ML to a DVD. Is this possible? Can't I download Mountain Lion from a boot menu or something?

If you downloaded ML from the App Store, you can find a DMG of the installer in the package from the App Store that you can use to format a USB drive. If it came with ML, you can access the recovery partition by holding Command-R at boot (actually, I assume upgrading to ML would also install the recovery partition).

For some reason, I cannot get Notes to sync with iCloud (and ultimately, my phone). Do I need to use an icloud.com email address? I have been using my gmail as my icloud account. :/

Make sure the notes are actually being stored on the Cloud and not "On My Mac" or "Gmail".

(No idea why I have two Gmails in there. I don't even use either and just use iCloud so I usually have the sidebar hidden)

If I try to enable notes syncing on my phone a thing pops up that says i need to create an icloud.com email address. :/

Notes are synced via your e-mail address, so to sync them via iCloud you'll need to have an iCloud e-mail address associated with your Apple ID. Alternatively you could set it to sync notes with your Gmail address on your computer and iPhone by going into your Gmail account preferences.

It doesn't hurt to just make it :p It will just add it your existing Apple ID as an alternate e-mail address so your Gmail address will still be how you log in.

Yeah, I thought I would have to use it as my log in if I created one.. so, i made one, and then i realized that all my notes on my phone are under "On My iPhone" instead of "iCloud." I can't seem to find an easy way to add them to the cloud other than recreating each note under the iCloud section... any ideas?

Drag them from the list on the right in my screenshot to the place you want them to be. It's exactly like the Finder. Drag to move, Drag+Option to copy.

This method should work for all apps that have an "On My Mac" and "iCloud" option.

I got it, thanks a bunch guys!
I had to do this for all my calendars when I first got Lion but I had to export each calendar to a file then import it back into iCloud for some reason. At one point I fucked up and duplicated all the calendars for a certain group. I'm still cleaning up that mess. They really should have asked on first launch, "Welcome to iCloud! Would you like to move your current calendars/notes/whatever from On My Mac to the iCloud?" then there'd be Learn More about iCloud, Move, Copy and No Thanks options.

Whatever. Personally I like having everything on the cloud so I can access it from all my Macs and my iOS devices. Coupled with my online backup service's iOS apps and Parallels iOS app's ability to view my Mac's screen as well as run my VM's from anywhere, I am never away from my computer at any point.

How do I change the location of an event in my iPhoto library? For some reason when I installed my SSD it is not finding just one of my events/folders. Every other event is fine. The photo location didn't change at all from when it was on my mechanical drive to where it is now on my SSD. :s

Really weird. I don't want to have to re-add it as a new event because I spent a lot of time adding faces to every picture and there are like 1000 pictures :(

"Rescan for location" isn't doing anything.

For the record, as it should be obvious with my dilemma, I have "copy items to iPhoto library" turned off in the preferences. I'm pretty sure that would make my iPhoto library huge, right? Pro of that is never having any location problems, con is having a huge iPhoto library (basically duplicating my photos) on a space restricted SSD.

I must say I'm really happy with the progress virtualization has made in the past six years since Apple switched to intel.

My iPhoto (11, latest updates installed) running on Mountain Lion has no albums on it. However, when I sync my iPhone a 'lastNmonths' album shows up with 80 random pictures inside along with 'Recovered Folder' and 'Last Import' which are empty.

8evqC.png

As they do not show up in iPhoto itself, I can't see any way to delete them. Does anybody know a way to do this?

My battery life is still complete shit with 10.8.2. It was fine with Snow Leopard though. I never should have upgraded.

Anyone know if 10.8.1 or 10.8.2 addressed GPU/framerate issues in the OS on 2011 MBP's?

I'd like to re-upgrade back to ML, but framerates were dropping below 30fps regularly just panning through Spaces, never mind how bad Photoshop was.

Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated.

It has been a while since I used iphoto, but there should be a repair database option when opening iphoto, like hold cmd+opt when opening iphoto.

Could be an iLife sharing bug as well. There's a few of those.

Never had that issue with my Early 2011 15" 6490M MBP. :\ GPU Drivers were a big focus point of 10.8.2 though. I'm sure you did a clean install?

PS, Photoshop GPU Acceleration still seems to be borked in 10.8.2, if you're curious. Not sure who I should be angry at about that.

My iPhoto is bugged as well.

I have a few random pictures that I deleted in iPhoto are coming back on my iPhone and iPad as separate events, and I can't do anything about them. They're not in iPhoto for Mac so I can't delete them or even find them.

There seems to be a problem somewhere between iPhoto or iTunes in syncing so for right now I suppose I just need to wait until Apple releases an update to fix the bugs. I really wish I waited to update iPhoto.

Completely new to Mac OS I wanted to set the wallpaper to change every 30 mins or whatever. I can see that in the settings and I can see the pictures I have ready for this in my pictures folder but I only want certain pictures in the folder to be used as a wallpaper I couldn't figure how to remove the pics I didn't want out of rotation.

Create an album in iPhoto containing only wallpaper photos. You can then set the background to rotate only that album of images.

There's no checkbox style for choosing pictures so you either need to make an iPhoto album if you're using iPhoto or just remove the pictures you don't want to use from the folder if you're just using a folder. Simple as that.

Noted.

I had not done a clean install, as it was never necessary to do one with the SL or Lion upgrades. I was going to do one but got really content with my rollback to Lion and just never bothered.

Bummer about GPU acceleration in Photoshop. I guess I'll wait awhile longer. But yea, I was finding that doing basic things like swiping between spaces would cause a major framerate drop. Probably something like 20fps or something during those times. Really dissatisfying when it worked (and continues to work) smooth as butter in Lion. I'm not familiar with the 6490M, but I have a 1GB 6750M (also early 2011) which I assume is perhaps a little newer than the 6490...but I have no clue. I'll probably ask around at macrumors too. Thanks for responding.

I've got three accounts set up in Mail.app. Two Gmail accounts (real name + nickname), one from the university.

When I send a mail from any of the Gmail accounts, always the nickname account is used. The displayed name is actually correct - if I send one from my real name account, my real name is displayed, but it uses my other account nonetheless. This really pisses me off, as I just noticed that within the last few days (since 10.8.2 possibly?) some quite important correspondence has been sent with my nickname account.

Is the real-name account set to use the outgoing mail server for the nickname account?

Ah..yes. Thank you very much. They were both set to use the same credentials for the outgoing server - no idea why and since when. I actually couldn't change them; I had to re-add the servers again.

So.... Facebook notifications are supposedly configurable from the website....but if I got to settings there, all I see are email notifications. Are they the same thing? As in I have to receive an email if I am to receive Mac OS X notifications?

No, I'm pretty sure NC notifications are the same as the notifications you get on the website, which afaik you can only kind of control by blocking certain apps/groups/friends.

So those aren't the same as all the notifications on the website, which I assume are for emails?

I've gotten like random notifications in NC, and I can't figure out the pattern. I have all email notifications off in Facebook.

god Facebook is annoying to navigate on the website.

Yeah I dunno lol. Trying to understand Facebook settings is a nightmare. Why call the e-mail notifications page "Notifications"? Who knows, probably no one at Facebook that's for sure.

Ah well, as you can see, I'm new to Facebook. Everything is so unnervingly granular.

Oh well, thanks anyway.

Guys anyone having some weird issues with safari since the last update hit?

It will randomly close sometimes after I open a tab.

I get some plugin error every now and then on youtube.

Gifs are not playing correctly.

There's a lot of other stuff too, most minor issues.

It worked perfectly for me before I updated to Mountain Lion
