Try giving it the same address as your ethernet has, which is how it looks on my 10.7 machine when it's on.

Putting the exact same IP address gives me a really slow connection, but putting a little high last number (just one more) did wonders. I don't think it'll get any better than this.

Cheers! I'm so happy.

(Just to be a little more precise, it works and I can check GAF and several news apps, but it's still not ideal. But at this point I doubt it'll get better).

Is there a fix or workaround for the slowness of Time Machine on ML? It's running for over an hour now and has done only 1GB so far.. of 145.

I was under the impression that only apps through the app store could use Notification Center? I installed the latest MakeMKV from the web site and it uses NC.

Local notification vs push notification. Anything can use it while the application is running. Only App Store applications can do it while the application is closed.

I just subbed to iTunes Match.

Am I now safe to move my entire iTunes Media folder to an external drive, never to be seen again?

has every song been uploaded to iCloud? do a "sort by icloud status" in itunes and make sure everything is matched, purchased or uploaded.

if so, then yeah, you can move the music.

however, since you don't want itunes looking for the local files (which you want to get rid of) when you click a song, you have one last step in itunes to make sure it's going straight to the cloud for the songs

select all music in iTunes, hit delete. choose not to delete from iCloud and not to move to trash.

now every song in iTunes has an icon saying it can be downloaded. it will stream from icloud by default.

now go to folder on computer where music is stored and then move it to external drive.

kind of OT....

what would be the best way/tool to develop database application on OS X?
I tried Filemaker and I don't like it since it is not relational DB, and scripting is really bad.
Bento is not good enough.

Is there alternative?

What about web based solutions? For some time I wanted to try Ruby on rails, but I don't have that much time currently. Maybe some other rapid development tool?

Xcode? Does it have DB visual controls for quick DB development? (something like Delphi..or Visual studio stuff) ? I have no problem with learning Objective C.

Until 8 years ago I was Java and Oracle developer. So I have experience but it is really really rusty....

tnx

I asked this in the Mac Hardware thread too, but I figure I should pose the question here as well:

How's the Airport Express Base Station? Ease of set-up and maintenance are both of utmost importance.

Will 10.8.2 be out today like iOS6? Seeing as the two are linked and both have FaceBook support and iMessage improvements I'd bet they'd want them to be released at the same time. I hope so.

This might sound dumb, but can anyone recommend a good resource online to learn about the different features of ML? Coming from Leopard.

Where's the download on Apple's website? It's usually faster than the MAS update.

Yeah, what's with that? MAS is incredibly slow and it actually made me download a 1gb printer driver package because it kept erroring out of the 50mb update.

Nevermind, figured it out:

You have to login to your facebook account first.

Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars > facebook

Anyone else having issues signing into Facebook? I'm just getting a generic 'unable to verify account name or password' error.

edit: Logging out and back in fixed it. I guess it didn't like that I had already entered credentials in iPhoto directly to share through Facebook that way.

edit2: Weird that it only does contact integration and not full calendar integration like iOS6.

So what exactly will happen if I turn on FaceBook Contacts syncing on either iOS or OS X? I turned it off immediately on all devices because last time I enabled it on my old Android phone in the FaceBook app it cluttered my contacts witl every single person I am friends with and made it hard to figure out who I actually need to contact. Worse is that it also leaked onto my Apple contacts and synced to all my devices and I had a fun time cleaning out all the cruft.

So I'm afraid to check it off. Is there anything I'd miss out on if I didn't sync it?

Also, if I sync FaceBook contacts, will it be smart enough to know who the people I have in my contacts already are on FaceBook? Some of my friends use a different name on FB than I have in my address book. I have already gone ahead and filled in the "FaceBook Profile" part of each of my Contacts that I have on FaceBook. I would hope that would be enough for the sync to know who is who.

Edit: Nope. Was not smart enough even though I put the FaceBook username in the right place. Ugh. So stupid. So damn stupid. Turning it off again.

Edit: For some reason FaceBook contacts go by the actual name of the person (Which can be ununique, i.e. I can have multiple friends with the same name.) instead of their unique username. That's just plain stupid! Really damn stupid. It refuses to acknowledge that my brother, who uses a humorous joke name on FaceBook is who I have him as in my Contacts. He's the only one not linking. Even if I try and force it.

Arglebargle! Technology sucks. Robble robble. *shakes fist*

Edit: Know what? Not worth it. Keeping it turned off. My FaceBook life and my Phone life are never to be mixed.

So Safari iClouds tabs works on the iPhone, i.e. I can see the tabs that are opened on my Mac on my iPhone.

I can't get it to work the other way though, i.e. view the tabs that are open on my iPhone on my Mac when I click the cloud button in Safari.

Anyone know how to get this to work?

It should look at the name and email and any other info you have in your phone contacts list that matches up to the Facebook profile with the same info. I dont plan to sync Facebook to my contacts. It works like shit on android. Did it for my mothers S3 the other day and the pics are about as low res as possible. Don't know if that's a Facebook sync issue or an android issue. Bleh. Keep Facebook away from my contacts.

I just bit the bullet and did this on my iPad to see how it works. It did add all of my Facebook friends to my contact list, but you are able to uncheck the group called "all Facebook" in the contacts app and it will remove all of the random Facebook friend from your contacts and leave all of the previous contacts you had, but now with their info from Facebook included in their contact card. Does this make sense?

It should be working, it works fine for me. Maybe a temporary iCloud problem? dunno.

No thanks to the Facebook integration in 10.8.2 and iOS6. Facebook has a few privacy and boundary issues, to say the least. Don't need them on a system-wide level.

Funnily, as my battery percentage is going down, the remaining time is going up! It must be reconfiguring itself, but looks like the update has made a huge difference!

Now I've unified my phone number with my Apple ID and it's working great, I'd like this to be my only contact point for messages. I've deleted the email address from my iPhone/iPad (iMessage settings) so send & receive is only my phone number. In the iMessage preferences on Mountain Lion, I've unticked my email address so only the phone number is showing up.

I thought this was sorted, however one of my friends said she was texting me but they were not getting through. This is because she was texting my email address which I now no longer receive anything at, can this be decommissioned? When I start a new message on my partners phone and select my email address it still has the blue iMessage icon showing up as if it's still a contact point, meaning people will still be able to send me messages that I won't get.

Can an email address be completely dissociated with iMessage in any way?

Is anyone getting any weirdness with Notes? It keeps unchecking itself in my iCloud settings and my notes aren't showing up if I log into the iCloud website. It seems to be syncing correctly between my Mac, iPhone and iPad, so I'm hoping it's just being temporarily flaky.
