For me, this is one of the hardest games to predict in a while. The announcement trailer looked great, but every other trailer has been underwhelming IMO. And of the two recent Mafia games, the Mafia 1 remake was really good, but Mafia III was largely critically panned.

My guess is the 75-79 range. Fine but nothing exceptional.

Mafia 1 Remake has a 78 metascore, doubt it will be higher. My physical copy is already pre-ordered, it definitely helped that the game isn't full price.

I'm going 71 because it is linear with no open world. They would have to get a very open-minded reviewer to get a high score on something short and linear.

75. It won't wow the critics. Lower budget, small staff, technical limitations, "outdated" gameplay, etc.

I'll buy it, because I like these games (Mafia 1 and 2, anyway) and appreciate the throwback style linear adventure. I don't expect a masterpiece, but I think I'll enjoy it, and that's enough for me.

Mafia 1 - 88 (mine 96)
Mafia 2 - 77 (mine 90)
Mafia 3 - 68 (mine 85)
Mafia Remake - 78 (mine 85)

Mafia Old Country - I predict 84 (and hope mine will be at least 90)

mafia 2 was 77? lol that game was awesome
PS3 had no grass.

Anyone know the embargo?

I think I'm gonna love it. Some reviewers might shit all over these knife fights. Those 1 on 1 fights are gonna be the deciding factor imo.

Mafia 3 was awful so I guess you really like Mafia games.
I played it on PC at 60fps with all DLCs and didn't find it "awful". In fact, it has:

- fantastic atmosphere and sense of place, 60s Orleans is a great and distinct setting
- great driving
- great shooting
- good enough stealth
- fantastic music
- gorgeous cutscenes and some fun characters
- great setpiece missions (KKK rally, abandoned amusement park, LSD party..)

Its main problems were in the repetition of taking over the districts and too many stupid collectibles, but those are not enough to detract that much from the experience for me (DLCs help break up the repetition; they are all unique and fun).

Also, it is the closest we have to videogame adaptation of a brilliant TV series "Quarry".

I just beat it a few days ago. I used a mod to take out a lot of that bloat.
The main game is still too repetitive, even with the mod. The DLC expansions were the best part.
Music is great. Characters were great. To me it just felt more like a veteran revenge story than really a Mafia.

The thing that stood out to me was how often they were using the N word and having openly racists characters in the game.
Just reminds me of what they took from us. No dev would have to balls to do that anymore. Sad really.
Also the Playboy collectables. No dev would have the balls to do that anymore either.

True of course, but that is not a problem. Mafia 1 was homage to Godfather, Mafia 2 was homage to Goodfellas, Mafia 3 is homage to Quarry.
Mafia Old Country seems to be inspired by Godfather 2's Sicily scenes.

I really need to give 3 a chance

I agree 100%, but I'll just add that the car driving was particularly well done. Once I had mastered taking corners with the handbrake, driving alone was fun and rewarding. Mafia 3 brought back memories of classic car driving films from the 1960s, particularly Bullitt.

Hope this game does well, not everything needs to be a 90. I'm expecting high 70s, maybe low 80s and that's totally ok, especially for $50. The setting and presentation alone is worth the price.

Nolan North plays the KKK Grand Dragon too. Was pretty wild to hear him droppin N bombs :messenger_astonished:

Especially the fact even if the game gets 90 GAF will eventually call it "overrated".

Pretty sure they added in the slo mo driving effect a la GTAV's Franklin at one point too which made getting around even MORE satisfying
