As someone who is currently playing through Mafia 3 for the first time, I certainly hope that the dev team has learned a lot over the past x amount of years. But I'm going to guess high 70s to be safe

Yes, it also helps that 60s and 70s were the best era of automobiles ever.

Yeah, mafia 3 had beautiful classic cars, great music and a wonderful atmosphere. This game transported me back to the 1960s and I felt as though I was really on a trip!

They all have such classic licensed tracks, and used at really cool moments. -

This one in Mafia 2 is like something you'd see out of a Scorsese film

Around 80, I expect a solid traditional third person cover shooter with an interesting story and great atmosphere with no pretense to revolutionize the genre or being more than the AA game it is, reviewers will dock points for this anyway but who cares.
I think this will be a really nice summer title.

Likely be in the 70s, and probably higher for people who value story more. Gameplay looks pretty been there done that, but Mafia stories are at least fun.

Love this series but the last gameplay trailer for this turned me off, no longer a day 1. I'm going to guess 72, have a feeling it won't be what everyone is hoping for and will have myriad technical issues too, would love to be wrong, let's see what happens.

This new one is barely anything like that from what I've seen, this one is a linear action game with only cars and horse rides in set piece moments.

I'm curious to see how it turns out. The demo seemed cool, gave me the impression that this is a condensed game designed to secure funding for a larger sequel. But idk.

Anyone know if its gonna be PS5 Pro enhanced? I know it doesn't have the label on the store but I also remember seeing a trailer or gameplay saying "shown on a PS5 Pro console". Disappointing if it's not enhanced and I'll surely wait until it does since I'm not in a rush to be adding games to my already HUGE backlog.

I just beat it a few days ago. I used a mod to take out a lot of that bloat.
The main game is still too repetitive, even with the mod. The DLC expansions were the best part.
Music is great. Characters were great. To me it just felt more like a veteran revenge story than really a Mafia.

The thing that stood out to me was how often they were using the N word and having openly racists characters in the game.
Just reminds me of what they took from us. No dev would have to balls to do that anymore. Sad really.
Also the Playboy collectables. No dev would have the balls to do that anymore either.
I just got the plat for Mafia 1 and started Mafia 2. I was curious when I started the game, a message appeared that the definitive edition didn't remove anything from the original, and apologized for it being culturally insensitive.

I am just not hyped for this one. I like the whole series so far, so I should give this one a chance too. I probably will get it, I just haven't really liked what I've seen so far.

Same, my hype is pretty low, didn't like what i saw.

75 - 79, anything above that would be a positive surprise for me.
I'm hoping for interesting characters and a fresh, Sicilian atmosphere. The gameplay seems to be off the shelf, but I can live with that as long as the game world and story keep me entertained.

Do we actually know anything about whether the game will get a real Sicilian dubbing?

~80.
Will be punished for being just a somewhat linear single player game and not a GAAS MP open world "platform" or something.
Story will likely also be seen as a downgrade from the previous US based games by most English press.
Low price point will be its saving grace.

I am hoping for low 80s , but it's likely to be mid to upper 70s in reviews.

I thought this was going to be like Mafia 1&2, ie generally linear but you can drive around the city even if you can't really do anything there. But apparently it's more like Uncharted?

Either way, will wait for reviews and impressions and evaluate the technical state of the game. I really liked the first two games, Mafia 3 was a giant meh though.

Anyone who says mafia 3 is awful either has terrible taste in games or has no idea what a bad game is. Mafia 3 is damn fine it has issues but no where near as bad as fans complained about.
So most people have bad taste? It's not good buddy, you can throw slight on me all you like but the facts are it's not a well regarded game critically but I'm glad some people enjoyed it. Hopefully Old Country is significantly better for my tastes.

Imagine thinking Mafia 3 is actually a good game between the bugs, absolutely mediocre graphics, open world bloat and brain dead AI where you could just whistle behind cover and the enemies would literally line up for a knife kill.
Its only redeeming aspect was the interview/documentary-like storytelling.

One of the most 5.5/10 games if I ever saw one.

And yes, I actually finished it.

Yeah it's a far cry from what its initial reception made it out to be. I played it years after release so my expectations were obviously much lower because of that but I ended up with an incredibly enjoyable and polished title. Didn't experience any game breaking issues with it myself either.

I just hope people support it. We NEED more single player focused games that aren't charging $70-80 in this day and age when they only offer like 10-15 hours of content. 2K doing the very smart thing and charging the classic $50 is great. SUPPORT THIS (if the game is actually good). I just have very little hope for the games media these days on games that don't throw 500 hours of content at you, season passes and all the other shit out there. I'm in day 1. I have a feeling the game itself is going to be awesome, but relatively short like 10-12 hour campaign, semi open world like the other mafias and not your TYPICAL MOBSTER movie like Goodfellas. This is more of Michael away in Italy for the 2nd half of Godfather but with way more action. This has a chance to be a sleeper hit. Please be PS5 Pro enhanced. I'm certain it is since the newest trailer showed "game being shown on PS5 Pro system", it's just not marked as enhanced b/c someone dropped the ball with the listing. We'll see.

I don't use numbers to determine if a game will be good or not, but this probably will be a bit above average based on the recent trailers.

I think the game could be a good filler before you take on your next big game.

Mafia 3 is by no means perfect, but to ignore its many strong points and label it awful is extremely shallow. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but if you can appreciate art, old cars, classical films (like the Bullitt), classical music, as well as the atmosphere of the 1960s and 1970s you simply can't dislike Mafia 3. This game it's like a time capsule that transports you to that era and lets you experience it all like no other game.

I think many gamers play games mechanically and without appreciating the art (they simply don't notice what's in front of them). It's like walking without noticing any of the beautiful things around you (the nature) and then telling other people that walking is boring. Unlike typical gamer I have always been keen to immerse myself fully in a gaming experience, which is precisely what led me to appreciate titles such as The Order 1886, Callisto Protocol, and Mafia III. These games had an extremely detailed world that allowed me to become fully immersed in the experience.

Mafia 3 strong points:
- It features a detailed open world and beautiful indoor locations. In that regard, Mafia III was clearly an AAA game, on pair with GTA.
- An extremely faithful depiction of the 1960s (cars, clothes, atmosphere, topics like racism and Vietnam war)
- Amazing soundtrack. IMO only GTA Vice City had better.
- Amazing car driving! There isn't a single open-world game that can match the car driving in Mafia 3. This point alone makes the game great because you can drive around even without a purpose and still have fun.
- The game's combat is good. Cover system works well and aiming on the gamepad feels satisfying. There's also a stealth element.
- Amazing story and interesting main story missions.
- References to iconic films from the 1960s / 1970s like Bullitt, but even films about Vietnam war.
- Very good graphics and art style, especially when the game launched.
- Good performance on modern PC's, but I recommend to use reshade 6.0 and uncap the framerate with it to get perfectly smooth framepacing above 60fps.

Mafia 3 weak points:
- Unlike main missions, side missions are extremely repetitive. You always need to kill everyone in the area, or destroy property. What's even worse, the developers used copy-and-paste locations. However, since car driving and combat were fun, I was OK even with these repetitive side missions.
- Stealth is slightly unbalanced because if you're good at taking out enemies with a silenced pistol, you can take out every single enemy in the camp without any problems. In my opinion, Mafia 3 should have limited ammo for the silenced pistol because this weapon is too effective.
- AI can be bad, but it's not a big problem because games with good AI don't allow for such a large degree of stealth and freedom. In my experience realistic games arnt that fun.
- There are bugs that make it impossible to progress without restarting the game (even definitve edition has this problems).
- TAA in this game is extremely soft. This problem can be fixed on a PC with a good sharpening filter and downsampling.

Considering all its points, I would rate Mafia 3 an 8/10, but I saw potential for a 10/10 if the developers addressed the problems I highlighted and included more rewarding collectibles. I think that's why open-world Rockstar games are so good. They provide a compelling reason to explore the world, while mafia 3 is focused on main story.

Maybe I'll give it another go, I'm open to liking it.
