For whatever reason straight fan-pairings either don't seem to exist, or they're just porn. I looked for Jace x Chandra stuff first but it was all weird anime sketches.

There used to be a ton of shipping art on Reddit/Facebook, almost always Jace x one of the female planeswalkers.
I'm kind of sad it died, it was hilarious. I wonder if they started filtering it on magictcg.

This isn't a thing that happens. If it goes up on the mothership it's final packaging art.
I'm not going to make as strong a case about it being card art, because while it's always been card art in the past it's conceivable they've switched it to key art now, but I still think the most likely situation is that there's a sorcery or enchantment cycle here.

I don't actually know what their packaging rules are, it just looks cheesy as fuck so I was hoping they weren't going with POWER RANGERS on the actual packaging.
I'm thinking about starting a mtg website where I take a creature card and make it legend with appropriate backstory for interesting world-building exercises. Basically some of the art feels like it could be a legend in its own right, and it's fun to imagine a character "evolving" to become better.

Yeah, I think the concept of the art in this cycle is actually pretty good but the execution is... lacking.
EDIT: Looking at it, BFZ packs all had card art but it looks like Origins had key art, so it's conceivable this is similar and won't appear on cards either.

The problem I have with it from a non-"this art sucks" perspective is that it doesn't really give you any idea of what the set has in it the way other packs do.

I would be shocked if there's anything in Oath that explicit mentions teammates. There's what, one card that does this now? And its Time Spiralol block. I'm just skeptical at the concept they'd add in rules complexity for something that doesn't matter so often. There are lots of cards that reference multiple opponents, but that's something that gets played a ton with Commander.

There's only one card ever that talks about teammates explicitly so it would be pretty wacky to go crazy on it in a random set like this, especially in what would be a marquee rare cycle.
I agree it's not a great packaging choice.

If they make oath as shitty as battle by wasting resources on "teammate" spells I might be done. As far as I'm concerned they've fucked up with battle horribly.
Just think about this, they put $100 bills in some of the packs , and no one wants to play their shitty set

No FNM for a month now
They need to fix the next set not screw around with teammate shenanigans. Zendikar could've been so cool , and they ruined it.
Just venting somewhere , I just want to like the game again but it's so bad right now and has turned a lot of people I know off from playing. Really hope they nail oath out of the park

Game 2 between Stephen Murray and Nikolaus Eigner in Round 3 at the WMC is the most "Magic the Gathering"-ist game I've seen in a good while
EDIT: They just officially revealed Kozilek. Guess they are proceeding as if no leaks occurred. How many weeks ago was the Kozilek leak?
Also there are two versions of the Wastes cards (one based on Kozilek and one based on Ulamog), both commons, that you have to draft to get any to play with.

It's a shit set and Standard is pretty stale right now but it's due to two things that won't be happening again any time soon.
1. The transition to the two-set block. BfZ was two sets smooshed together and is thus somewhat of a mess.
2. They chose to reset the power level of Standard with this set (probably because they knew full-arts and expeditions would drive sales) so we've gone an extended period of time with the format basically being Khans block constructed. Oath might help with this but I really don't expect Standard to be exciting again until SoI hits.

I'm just hoping the colorless spells are actually pushed.
I don't see how that's weird. It's the same as any nonbasic that taps for colorless, like Adakar Wastes or Nykthos.
