I imagine nothing feels worse than pulling a Comet Storm from a pack of MM2015.
During a modern masters draft this summer, a guy at our table pulled a foil comet storm and at the other table the person he'd come with pulled a foil goyf at the same moment. It was highly amusing.

I did this.

It was a box with Cryptic, Noble Hierarch, Foil Dark Confidant, Mox Opal, foil Spellskite and lots of other stuff though.

~20 packs of MM2015, via draft, I never pulled (or had passed to me) a card worth the price of the pack. Not even any decent rares - most valuable, by far, all told, was a foil Lightning Bolt.

...I don't like buying packs.

Remember kids, if you cast an Awakening spell to buff your Lumbering Falls, you're gonna have a bad time.

I wonder if they think an instant-speed Awakening spell is too strong.

If you instant speed destroy your opponent's land when they cast Planar Outburst w/Awakening, you counter the spell entirely because all of its targets are illegal.

We've also decided that there are certain things we specifically do not want to be mythic rares. The largest category is utility cards, what I'll define as cards that fill a universal function. Some examples of this category would be cycles of dual lands and cards like Mutavault or Char.

*makes Expeditions as rare as foil mythics*

Rarer, actually since there are 25 of them instead of 15.

So you're saying that I shouldn't bring in Planar Outburst against Painter's Servant in my next Legacy tournament?

Not sure about outside of the US, but Ebay still has fatpacks within reason for BFZ, granted this is higher than MSRP, it isn't taxed so its about the same as from a store.

Yeah, there's shipping, too - and the CAN dollar is in the absolute pits. $45 US = 60 CAN + Shipping. I'm out. I was really hoping this that this was going to be a big boon, but I should've known better. I know I'll buy a box for myself, but any other boxes will be drafted so I won't see many of the lands. In the end, I'll have some mismatched full-arts that I won't want to use beside non-full-arts except maybe in some decks where I splash a colour. Colour me fairly un-excited. (Unless the SCG statement is false, of course)

Honestly: Whatever. I've (re)learned to never expect too much from this game when it comes to buying actual product from the actual people who make it.

I honestly don't get this attitude: the lands themselves are not going be very expensive at all. You can just buy them straight up like any other single for cheap because each pack has 1 and this set will opened a stupid amount.

Yeah, I'll probably just order a few dozen of the Noah Bradley Swamp and be done with it. I don't need the fat pack box for anything since I use my Rise of Eldrazi one for my Commander decks.

I use the Fat Pack Boxes to store commons, uncommons and bulk rares from that specific set. No, they don't fit perfectly, but its a "free" box that's prelabeled.

That's fair. I was honestly just thinking that myself as I was doing other stuff. Just funny that I would honestly give money to WOTC for lands and they simply don't want me to. But I suppose that can be extrapolated to any card in this silly game :)

I guess I just had it in my head that, "Hey, this time I'll get one or two of those fat packs and be done with it. That sounds like a fun way to get some boosters / sealed product.".

The Standard legal cards are also at rare, though, so they're actually a bit less rare than rare.
Yeah, I suppose they aren't putting anything exclusively at Mythic.

Just for fun it would take 900 boxes to pull a specific Expedition.

It only takes 120 packs to pull a specific mythic rare. (80 in a small set)

I preordered 2 fat packs around a month ago. I don't usually preorder these things but it was $30 instead of the $40+ that I have seen everywhere else so I jumped on it. This should give me more than enough lands to cover anything I want to do with them. They won't all match in art but I'm hoping I can offset some of that through drafts and such.

Considering buying a box too, but I'm not sure yet.

Yeah after this week I don't think I'm going to be opening much product, hard to see value in a lot of the cards. Obviously a lot is going to be soaked up by the expedition lands but most everything has been kinda zzzz.

Oh.. Oh dear. That's not good.

If we're at 66% Rare/Mythics unvielef and we haven't seen anything great, it's going to be interesting.

Though to be fair in some sets it's the commons/uncommon that are great, but still.
Crossing my fingers that they're saving the good stuff for the rest of the month.

Otherwise, Standard is still gonna be Tarkir's house.

asked: Is Void Winnower's ability to stop "Even" cmc spells a choice by the design team or development team?

That’s all design baby. Note that the “Eldrazi likes odd” theme was much bigger at an earlier point in design.

What I'm gathering from all this is that Design had no idea what they were doing.

I'm getting this feeling as well, and its awful. Maybe Wizard's rational(This sounds super cynical) is that everyone will already buy/draft BFZ, and ergo they need not put effort into a set that will already sell when Block 2(Fairy Tale world?) Needs all the design it can to be appealing.

I'm getting the impression Mark genuinely thought this was the right way to go (with the Eldrazi) and it ended up an incoherent mess because Development's tools late in the process are handcuffed because of things like art that's already been contracted.

I was gonna go to a PPTQ tomorrow but now that I've moved out of SF it takes forever to get to my old LGS.

Don't really feel like dropping 50+ to play in a 1K. The pizzeria next door is really good though...

Please, we all know you're just waiting for an excuse to spend 30+ on italian.

It's established that I don't need an excuse for that. It's just that I haven't had pizza in like 6 months because I've been trying to eat healthier and this place is my 2nd favorite pizza joint in the city.

Pizza is my greatest weakness. If I allow myself to buy it, I have no problem eating an entire extra large by myself in one evening. And I can barely finish this chicken salad I made for dinner.

Speaking of sets where only one half of R&D did their jobs, I'd say that Kamigawa is the prototypical badly designed set rescued by development, while Urza's is the clear example of good design with development asleep at the wheel. Abby other good examples?

2nd best pizza in sf is like 473rd best in a civilized place so....

They always said they were saving the full art basic lands for a set that needed it. Do you think they started with them in the set or went oh shit at some point and added them to save it?

I'm primarily a limited player, so I don't put too much stock into spoiler season, since it's mostly rares and mythics. The set dump on the second Friday is the true spoiler season.

I find myself mostly trolling for cards to put in my Peasant Cube. I've been hoping for another bomb ramp/reanimator target a-la Ulamog's Crusher, but nothing so far. :/

So after my long search of people to play with, I found one. Only problem is they are way too casual for me. They have little to no understanding of the rules. One girl asked if each creature has 20 life or just her. I had to play my EDH deck(they insisted) against some saproling deck where he cast instants on his turn, this was like nails on a chalkboard. every time I swung with geist a part of me died. Its that same feeling you get when paired up with a little kid with his mill deck that he swears works in the first round.

I don't want to seem like a elitist, but I was hoping for more of a challenge . They did have excellent weed though. Even sent me home with some.
