It's a tough choice. On the one hand, it's probably the right move financially and most likely builds a lot of excitement and inclusiveness in the community. On the other hand, it might lead to people playing Vintage.
From who?
It's very well established that while it's not all, a serious majority of players prefer eliminating the list.
All of the major dealers prefer a world without the reserved list because reserved cards are actually a bad investment due to high pricepoint and low liquidity.
I don't see any evidence that there's a sizeable group who are seriously negatively impacted by this decision and would complain in a way that would register above the universal complaining that follows every WotC decision.
This literally happens like twice a month for WotC so the incentive to care about this happening at all is deeply reduced unless it affects some other metric they actually care about, which in this case it would not.
does anyone else think the new minotaur brawler might be a bit of a trap? It still dies to fatal push and harnessed lightning, which most decks run, and you're likely getting 1 for 2'd most of the time unless you run scrounger or some madness shenanigans, which you can't anyway on tapped out lands. If the card become prevalent people just stop using shock and it's hard-countered easily
Also, lol @ all the people spitballing removing the RL. They're not removing the Reserved List. It's going to be a bunch of fucking Serra Angels and Akroma Angel of Wraths and me laughing.
If this new set isn't a Reserved List nuke, then I wouldn't be surprised if Wotc is seeing speculation about it and thinking "oh fuck, we didn't consider that people might think this and now our cute gimmick is going to seem really lame in comparison. Now what?"
Thinking about going to Vintage Champs since it's like an hour away and I'll already be going for Legacy. Question for you guys who follow vintage: how viable is white trash? Only power I'll have available will be a Pearl. Obviously I'm not expecting to have a chance at winning or probably even prizing but if some matches against the staples can be close then I think it'd be fun to throw down with the dentists and day traders of the magic community. Playmat might even cover my entry too lol.
I'm not really sure what they do print in Iconic Masters to justify the 10 price tag. We already got a lot of cards in MM3 and EMA. Not to mention that MM3 was among the worst things they did. While some cards dropped in price (mostly semi cheap ones like IoK, Path and Abrupt Decay), fetch lands are already back at their original price, as are many other cards like Cavern, Snapcaster and Blood Moon. As for the cards that weren't reprinted, they skyrocketed the day they were out in number crunch. Printing all these playable cards also means they probably are not printing them soon again, which just makes everything worse.
I'm all for abolishing the reserve list but like many others said, I kinda doubt they'd do it so abruptly.
So I need to unload my duals before I am 85 or so, good to know. If I am still playing this game at 85, a lot of things went right for me.If I understand copyright laws correctly, then 75 years after the initial printing, people could legally print reserved list cards as copyright would have expired. The reserve list's days are numbered!

I'm still mad that we probably won't ever see the enemy fetches in a standard set now. MM2017 did drop the prices but $30-50 a pop is still not affordable to me.

Surprised it didn't see a conspiracy reprint tbh. That would've seen ally fetch lands type price drop while at the same time not breaking standard.
You don't need fetchlands in a casual format. They should at least reprint them in some Commander products, for those of us EDH players out there that would love a single Scalding Tarn or Misty Rainforest for our decks but can't justify spending $50 for a single land in a casual deck.
Yeah, they'd probably just make sure all the packs get bought by scalpers, but just print more and more! I don't care!

I just want more dudes with greatswords
Like my homie Rafiq of the Many
Well, at least they closed that line of speculation quickly

We will not be reprinting reserved list cards. There are plenty of iconic cards outside of them.
It's not a trap at all. You are playing Bloodrage Brawler in decks that want to discard Fiery Temper or, specifically, Honored Hydra, and then activate Rhonas, Hazoret and/or Lupine Prototype. It's an engine card for a deck that wants to discard things.
A deck built around Bloodrage Brawler rarely gets 2 for 1'd by playing the card unless they kept an obvious mulligan.
After MM17 (arguably the best set of all time) I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume there's more to the set than iconic dragons, demons and angels (and lol hydras and sphinxes).
I mean, I do wonder how they're going to try and sell $10 Packs during the biggest sale period of the year and not have something big in store
At the very least, I would kill for an Aether Vial Reprint. Card shouldn't be that expensive.

Ancestral Visions would be a funny card to include. Bootleg version of actual iconic card.
See, if there are some moderately priced cards with kickass new art I'd be excited for that too. Not $10 excited but yeah. Also, there are still a lot of moderate value cards they could print even if none of them is opening LotV or Goyf. To me, opening a $10 rare for a $10 pack isn't that bad as long as this is the case for almost all the rares/mythics.
I took it but there weren't question about the importance of Stasis locking my opponent or dropping a T1 Blood Moon in Commander against a Hermit Druid deck.

Nothing says "iconic" like new art
Yo what if they print all the old cards in old borders but updated with the hologram?
