Clever Impersonator is going to be an EDH staple forever, but man are those some bad rares. Avalanche Tusker feels like a common, and Crater's Claw is the worst of the rare red X spells I can remember.

This being the gameday rare probably caps it's price a bit more/lowers the long term value (because EDH/Cube players are going to want this version years from now, not the normal one which probably won't be Modern playable.)
 
What is the deal with all the crap rares/mythics in this set? It's almost embarrassing. Fetches really fucked things up huh.
 
Crater's Claws seems solid in the RG Monsters lists that usually don't have trouble staying Ferocious. Could be good in the mirror, the extra +2 can help chew through enemy Coursers and Arbor Colossus.
 
Clever Imposter is a cheap cost for being able to copy about anything. It will see play in standard and EDH. Any other formats?
 
...and Clone just got a sick upgrade. Damn. That Imposter is pretty sweet.

The x-spell feels uncommon. Actually, a lot of the rares in this set feel uncommon. It's becoming more and more of a letdown every day.
 
That impostor is ridiculous early, mid, and lategame. Opponent drops any sort of threat/beast planeswalker and you can just 4-drop a clone of them. Ridiculous.

Eh, I'll wait to see how it plays in Limited. That's what I care about the most, aside from a few cards
 
It makes me laugh how much people got excited by thsoe fetches only to realize almost everything else we have seen is worse than Theros

I know I'm going to be BWx for sure and was leaning towards red but the clever imposter really makea me want to switch to Esper. I only was going red to play Sarkhan.

Waiting to see how good the BWR charm is.
 
Only about a third of the set is spoiled, and there are probably 10-15 good to great cards in there so far. I'm not worried yet.

Yes, I realize all the cards in every set basically do the same thing, it just feels off flavor-wise somehow. Like they don't feel different enough to keep up the facade that "this is totally not Fireball."
 
Also note that Ankle Shanker is confirmed to be a 2/2, not a 3/3 as previously thought.

Avalanche Tusker is still boring, even with the extra 2 power. Sage of the Inner Eye is also boring, but seems powerful. With Clever Impersonator, it's interesting how planeswalkers can be copied now. I think people are underestimating Crater's Claws, though it is a bit odd to see it at rare. EDIT: Then again, it looks like Banefire was also printed at rare, and its upside also isn't all that impressive to look at, even if it is useful in theory.

Nobody got the joke about Ankle Shanker being a 2/2 with First Strike/Deathtouch and 5 CMC and the proposed Achilles legendary creature having "protection from non 5 CMC"

The thing is, I understand MTG cards are mostly the same in every set, but I'd just like a fresher coat of paint on my Craw Wurms and Fireballs.
 
I know this might be a silly question. What is the general consensus about Magic
online? Does it feel like an indipendent shape of the game or just a secondary side? Does it maintain the feel of the game? I know that a big part of the game is to play against physical opponent etc but besides this, does it feel like the ordinary card came? I'm out from magic since 2005 i think, and i'd like to start playing it again but a little bit softly. I don't want to go to the local store early afternoon and come back home in the evening to find oppents/trade cards/buy cards/sell cards. But i'd like to play in a vibrant, active, populated community. So i'm asking the ones who play magic online (or tried it) which are their feelings and experiences about the game and the community. Link me the thread/post and kill me if this has already been asked. Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

It basically plays like Magic, but its also kind of a piece of shit we live with for lack of other options. Like shit will just not work sometimes for no reason and you just deal with it.
 
If it copies a planeswalker, how many loyalty counters does it have? The amount the original had, or the amount that planeswalker normally comes in with?
 
I think Wizards is over-evaluating the cost of making a creature block, or we are incredibly under evaluating it.

I mean when you do the math, 2 extra mana for a 6/4 with that ability isn't bad. It's just what amount of mana do you place on that ability ? I mean I think if you make it a 6/4 that say's "When this creature attacks choose 2 target creatures they can't block this creature this turn" or whatever the templating is. Then you have a pretty damn good creature
 
turn one Noble Heirarch, turn two Doran, turn three mardu ascendency, attack with noble and doran, make two tokens, sacrifice ascendency. 20 damage ladies and gentlemen

I've been liking the trend of putting more control-esque/tempo flavor into red with Act on Impulse and such. Hopefully we'll see a bit more of that. A 2-drop Act on Impulse like card would be fun
or with Phyrexian RR because I'm a looney.
