Your reply almost feels promising. I got this:

The PSN card that you purchased is currently out of stock. It is estimated
to be re-stocked in 1-2 weeks. We will send you the code once after the
re-stock. We kindly ask you for patience.

I like how on the product page it still doesn't even say it is out of stock. I wouldn't have bothered if I'd known this. >>
Yeah, I just got that, too. I think I'll be canceling this like a Focus Attack Dash :D

Utterly ridiculous.

Does anyone have any other suggestions (besides Ebay)? I hear one of our own gets them on a regular basis, maybe I should PM them?

I could literally walk down the street and get you all ¥1000 codes from the conbini but I haven't touched my paypal account in uh..probably a decade so I'm not really set up to open my own code shop. :lol

I could swear I read in this thread or the PSN thread for this week that someone was indeed doing that though.

Wooo, getting much better now. The aura sword when released is so strong. I've got an A rank on Forbidden Floor and am really close to getting S rank. Just gotta cut down on the body breaks.

Alright dudes I am going to step in here and offer my services (because I am an idiot?).

I leave work in about seven hours. Anyone who can wait approximately nine or ten hours for when I get home and stuff to get the code is welcome to message me in the next seven hours for my PayPal address and after those nine or ten hours are up I will PM you a PSN card of the value you desire. All I ask is that you pay me considering the current exchange rate (1000 JPY = 12.41 USD right now) and maybe round it up to nearest dollar to cover the percent of stupid fees that PayPal will take. So, 13 bucks for a 1000 yen card, 26 for a 2000, 39 for a 3000.

And we're off!

I want to cancel, but I see no option to do so. Do they only do it through e-mail? And they already charged me too. =\

Wow... just have to say that is a super nice thing you are doing for your fellow GAFers. Luckily my best friend teaches English in Japan and he buys me those digital codes whenever I need them.

Also, how the hell can Alvion fit so much awesome in this game and yet only charge 800 yen. They are totally leaving money on the table and I love it.

It's pretty nuts and very replayable. Just when you think there's a "best way" to beat a boss, I go and find another one. :D

And the soundtrack is soooooooooooo good. Hope they release an OST of some sorts down the line... and a big ass sequel.

Happy to help. Y'all got about another three hours to place your orders if you want them today!

Okay, this seems really great but I've no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. Just beat the library boss in a little over 20 minutes pretty much just spamming square. L1 + square obviously uses your Aura and I presume that makes your attacks stronger but besides that I'm not sure how to make my attacks more effective. There's the charge thing with X but I don't quite know how/when best to use that.

Any tips gratefully received.

Yeah, me too, although for me it was more like 16 minutes (and I didn't even use any Aura or the fists, because I'd forgotten how to - yeah, I know, press L1). I basically just locked on to the big beastie, held down Square while moving and jumping outta the way of his attacks, and countered his spinning attack from the ceiling whenever needed (you'll be prompted to press Triangle and Circle just before it hits, seems to do quite a bit of damage).

Of course, I chose the female avatar, and left her alone after beating the library boss...d'aaawwwwwww, the end of her idle animation makes her look so lonesome <:-(

Will play some more later. Thanks again, lobdale!

I agree, hope there's a soundtrack or some kind of promo merchandise to collect. This being a digital release though those things sound not much a chance.

Needing some tips of S ranking...I find that to get S rank you need at least 200 enemies killed AND a fast time AND at least 20 chain AND with 10 or less body break or so...finding it hard to do all in one.

I've managed to figure out a fair bit for myself now. Had no idea about the d-pad when I started but obviously that helps. :lol

Finding the fists most useful for a lot of bosses, with the projectiles handy for those that like to take to the air (though I have Wing now, but I've only managed to activate that once and totally by accident). Managed to get three down but I've used up all my credits and the fourth boss takes me out in just a few hits. Think I probably need to go back and try to finish the first three without losing any credits.

One problem I had with Foughten Field was when I was punching its face I kept accidentally pressing L3 and dropping to the floor. Need to figure out how to stay airborne for longer as it's difficult to do a lot of damage when you're standing on top of him.

I have had a few issues with the camera - twice leading to frustrating deaths - but otherwise this is a beautifully-made game. Really polished and fun and challenging in a good way. I'm getting the hang of re-centring and locking off and on now, though, so even the camera problems are starting to melt away a little, apart from the odd occasion where it goes a bit mad.

Well worth 800 yen of anyone's money. And yep, it really does remind me of Nier.

Several key tips to make your life easier

1) D-Pad switches weapons, use it gratuitously. =P
2) Controls are customizable, so set them to whatever you feel is comfortable.
3) Block, block, block. Blocking at the right moment will get you a decent amount of aura.
4) Heal as soon as you get a body break.
5) Use different combo ender strings:

- punch x3 > press d-pad up = bullet combo ender (great for decent range and multi-hit in a mob, much better against a single opponent)
- punch x3 > press d-pad right = lance combo ender (great for getting out of harms way on top of being a decent strong attack)
- punch x3 > press d-pad left = sword combo ender (does two circular swings around your character. good damage, great length, and works wonders against mobs)

All these combo enders come out instantaneously, but you already need to have the weapon (i.e. sword, lance)

6) Dash all the time. As you will find out in later levels, standing still will get you killed easily.
7) Generally beat the levels in this order.
- Library, Foughten Fields/Forbidden Floor (can be switched), Escort of Queendom, Triumphal Square
8) Use aura attacks as much as you can (holding L1 while attacking)
9) The Release Mode (charge L1+X) gives you different levels of strength depending on how long you hold it. You can see your level by the amount of glowing icons on the top-left when activated. It strengthens every move and is very devastating when combined with aura (L1). I suggest not using it until you have at least 2000 aura though as it drains relatively quickly. You can stop release mode by pressing L1+X again.
10) You can cancel any movement by blocking. Great when you're in the middle of a combo and you need to move out quick.

Aside from certain situations, the sword and the bullet combo enders are the best damage dealers in the game. Use them all the time.

Finally got to play it today, and I am really loving it. It took me a bit to figure out the controls at first, but I think I am alright now. So far I only beat two of the bosses, can't wait to get the rest of them. :D

Thanks to donkey show for the tips. Figured out a few of those in the interim, but I'm blocking more now and those finishers are a big help. Wish I hadn't tackled Escort of Queendom so early on those earlier goes. I've managed to get through four of the bosses on three credits and I'm improving each time so I should get the fifth done tomorrow.

Thanks, this is very useful.

I tried the game again and am still struggling with it a bit. But I didn't know about a lot of the stuff you listed so I will try those next time. One thing that really bothered me was the combination of the schizo camera and the horrible framerate dips often would screw up my dash inputs. An attack would be coming and I'd hit a direction and dash and he'd throw up a 1/2 second block and stand still and eat the attack. Kept happening. I wish dash had its own button instead of being shared with guard since you need to dash so often.

I gotta say fuck this game.

I want to like it so much. I love challenging action games, I love the demon souls looking aesthetic and boss powering up, I love the megaman style upgrade system.

But so much about the game design frustrates me like crazy.

-The bosses take FOREVER. Sure it's only 4-10 mins but 4-10 mins of grinding a boss down feels like a looong time. Maybe it's better after a few upgrades. But for the first boss or two I'm doing punch x 3 -> triangle punch over and over and it takes forever. Punch x 3 -> up on the d-pad "missile spam" uhmmm shoots 3 dinky lasers after the 3rd punch that do zero damage. I feel like I'm still missing something.

-The bosses pull out their insta-kill type attacks when down to 25% life. So not only do they have a boatload of health, but everytime you get 3-5 mins in the battle you then die in 10 seconds and have to start all over again.

-I can't tell what the fuck is going on. This is the main complaint I have. I want to be able to see the boss patterns and learn how to just guard them or dodge them. But I feel really frustrated because 90% of the time I never see what is hitting me or where it came from. Like I was just fighting the sword girl in her final 25% form and I was doing a punch combo on her and suddenly it went into a cutscene where she was holding me and shattered all my body parts and that was like 5 mins into the battle. Doesn't really feel fair if you just suddenly die 5 mins in without even getting a chance to see and avoid whatever is coming. But every boss I've tried so far the screen is so busy, the camera is so bad, the framerate is so spazzy, and I cannot tell what is going on.

-The controls don't feel good. Having to do square punches to d-pad finishers is awkward. L1+O recovery is awkward. Having to STOP MOVING on the analogue, wait a milisecond, then press in a direciton + O to dash is super awkward, everything just feels confusing and unnatural. Half the time I hit the d-pad DOWN, dash up to a boss to punch him and hit square only to see a dinky laser shoot out because I guess it didn't register the down and change to punch. I like that there are a ton of abilities in the game, but it feels like too much for the controller and everything is awkward.

I will keep trying this game because there is a lot to like about it, but it just feels like a great concept marred by glitchy amateurish execution that results in a frustrating instead of challenging experience to the end user.

Ok beat it, so now I have proper standing to talk shit on this game.

Overall I like it and I think the core action engine is great, as is the art design and concepts, but the game clearly needed some extra time and a real company polishing it.

Here was my experience:

#1 Library - Ok, killing the grunt things with aura homing spam, building up aura, running up and trying to dodge the claw and spin attacks but the game keeps slowing down everytime I'm up close with big dog and that delays my guard/dodge button. But hey I can always back off, spam grunts for aura and rebuild body parts. Pretty easy. S rank it.

#2 Forbidden Floor - Since I had a really bad experience with sword girl prior, I'm going to stay away and play it safe and cheap. grind grunts with aura homing spam, get in and attack, get out and heal body parts, repeat. Going ok. Get her down to 25% she goes into mask form. OH GREAT, NOTHING DAMAGES HER. I try everything I have and can't do any damage. But at least I can spam grunts and keep myself alive. Finally I try the power attack with the lance using aura where you crash down on her. It does damage!! Though sometimes I'll take a ton of damage too. So I keep doing that and backing off to spam/heal when needed. Ok, kind of annoying but workable. A rank.

#3 Foughten Fields - SHIP. CAMERA. NOT FRIENDS. Yeah umm, first of all 5fps. You know I'm all cool with slow motion in PS2 games for DRAMATIC EFFECT when it's stuff like Sky Gunner or SoTC or Cave shmups when it actually helps you. In this game slowdown does not help you. It just throws off your timing for everything and makes it feel shitty. Anyhow I get up around the head area since the hit detection and floating buggyness of my character when attacking this is terrible. Somehow I'm doing damage. I dunno how. But I keep hitting the head and then wiping out the grunts with fist->sword combos to build aura. Then he gets 25% and POWER SHIELD. So I do the aura power lance spike into him over and over although the camera is still going nuts, I can't see anything below and the game is still moving in slow motion. So each time I fall back after a stab sometimes I'll get hit by something below me and have to recover and by that time the shield is back up. Eventually I keep spamming the lance and even though I swear he still had 10-20% life left all the sudden I get a cutscene where he dies. Weird hmmm, but I'm just glad this is done. Awful Awful Mission. B rank.

#4 Escort of the Queen - Starts off good enough. Spam grunts, build aura, aura lance thrusts doing great. Dodging around the shots. Fun stuff. 50% life it takes off flying. HOLY SHIT THE CAMERA IS BROKEN I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING THE REST OF THE BATTLE. I bet they were like "man, wouldn't this stage be so cool with a huge ship and this boss that flies all around it and you can attack it from anywhere???" Yeah ummm, I was down on the lower area and the boss somewhere above me but trying to lock on to the boss made it so I couldn't see anything and whenever I tried to climb blind I'd usually get hit back down! Every once and a while the boss would come down and I'd lance stab it and then it would fly past me and the camera would go insane. Oh and the detection while trying to WALK VERTICALLY up the ship + spaz camera + slow motion made it VERY DIFFICULT TO MOVE UP. Finally I get to the top. It's not coming back up. Fuck it, I'm jumping off the edge and doing square aura shot spam on it on the way down. OH HEY YOU CAN'T FALL TO YOUR DEATH. So I stand on air and stare at the boss far far above and spam square aura shots until it dies. TERRIBLE. C rank.

#5 Triumph Square - Hey big stone thing. I build up some aura and then punch punch punch sword swing swing it's dead. Man that was easy, S rank.

#6 Final Boss - LOLZ. If there's one thing I've learned at this point, it's that the camera does not deal with BIG THINGS very well. After a lot of trial and error and 1 HIT INSTANT KO DEATH FUCK YOU AND MAKING ME SIT THROUGH 2 MINS OF LOADING TO RETRY W/O CONTINUE I get all the patterns and how to build aura. Not particularly tough although like the rest of the game the problem is that in order to PUNCH SOMETHING you have to guess what? LOOK AT IT. and by looking at what you're hitting you are blind to the boss and have no idea when hits are coming besides the little orange explosy exploder. Flying around to the green things is a mess because the L3 flying controls fucking awful. It's very easy to click in L3 again on accident while flying and then you fall straight down, lol. Go to each one activate fine. Now go fight blobs. Moving around this fucker the camera and slowdown is ridiculous. Even more so that if you're on a higher blob and then you get knocked down it takes a while to get back up because 6 jumps is not enough. If they're going to give you 6 jumps why not just give you 20 jumps or something so you can reach the top of the boss from the bottom quickly if you need to without stopping on legs or arms to recover jumps. Anyhow kill blobs, punch facemouth, repeat, repeat, wow this boss is taking forever, repeat, repeat, jesus, repeat repeat repeat 1 MIN REMAINING. BEAT IT. B rank.

First of all I'm not even sure why there are bad time limits in the game. For a boss rush thing you'd think any time limit would be similar to a shmup time limit where the boss self-destructs and you win after a certain amount of time surviving. But most of all if you're going to make 30 min time limit on these bosses, WHY DO YOU MAKE A FINAL BOSS THAT TAKES FREAKING FOREVER.

And yeah, why are Japanese developers constantly forgetting to put a RETRY option when you die so you don't have to sit through 2 mins of loading and cutscenes every time you die. I'm playing Solatorobo on DS and the game is a super polished AAA title but you die during a mission and it dumps you back to the title screen and makes you sit through 10 mins of text dialogue again. :\ Wtf Japan. RETRY, IT'S A GOOD THING.

The controls are not good. I said that in my last post and after playing through the whole thing, I am extra sure of it. Changing weapons with the d-pad and ending combos with the d-pad is BAD IDEA. This is a game where you are being attacked at every instance. That means you always have your left thumb on the left analogue and right thumb on the buttons. YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO TAKE YOUR THUMB OFF THE LEFT ANALOGUE TO SWITCH WEAPONS AT THE END OF EVERY COMBO AND THEN SWITCH BACK. The flying on L3 is also really funky and doesn't always work right. And worst of all is the fact you are locked into your weapon during the sometimes long animations (swoooord) combined with INCREDIBLE SLOWDOWN means sometimes you accidently do a sword swipe and the game is running at 5fps and you're waiting and waiting for it to finish so you can change back to fist. Also having to change back to fist after EVERY COMBO because you end punch x 3 with another weapons finisher is horrible. Have a way to tell it to auto-change back to fist after a combo ender. You also should be able to change weapons when knocked down. Sometimes I'd be getting rammed on with my sword equipped and I couldn't hit square or triangle because the attack would be too slow and I'd get hit first. So here I am getting mashed by enemies and mashing on down on the d-pad over and over hoping it finally turns to fists at some point during all this slow motion chaos. BLAHGER

Overall, the game has a competent action engine and nice art but it has some amateurish issues that make it unpolished and overall a much lower quality game than it could be:

#1 The framerate - the game runs like shit, there is no excusing this. You don't make a reflex timing based action game that is going from 5fps to 30fps constantly. The insane slowdown ALL THE TIME makes the game not feel responsive and you play worse because of it. GET THIS TO LOCKED 30FPS K THNX BYE.

#2 The Camera - it's bad. Really really bad. It sometimes fools you into thinking it's ok when you're fighting normal size things. But the game is about GIANT MONSTERS or GIANT ENVIRONMENT and the camera just gives up and freaks out like a cat on speed. FIX THE CAMERA. ESPECIALLY ON BOTH AIRSHIP STAGES.

#3 Balance - game needs some professional balancing. Final boss needs to be trimmed considerably. Sword girl needs some real work. Airship should just be cut because it's a freaking terrible fight. Should've gotten the game published at Capcom or Team Ninja and had them polish it out before releasing.

If those three things were tightened up to what's expected from a modern 3d action game it'd be a pretty awesome title, although short. Make some actual levels before each boss and add a few more and you have a full quality retail game.

As it is, it's a gem. But a dirty dirty been in the swamp for decades and through a snakes digestive system rough gem. But hey, it's a start for these guys and maybe with some real $$$ and polish they'll be up there with the great eventually.

7.5/10

Yeah I've never seen the actual cards, I just use Loppi at Lawson's or the equivalent at Sunkus or Fami or wherever. It's usually under the prepaid section where you can buy stuff like cell phone time or MMO subs. Gives you a receipt, pay it at the counter, boom there's your code.

As for the poster a bit above frustrated with the game. I hear you. I wish they did a little handholding in the beginning to walk you throw how to do all this stuff and understand the targeting system a bit. It's very trial and error in an old school way, but still they could give you a tutorial boss fight. Usually the camera is my biggest gripe. I like the game a lot but the only thing that turns me off is sometimes I feel like I gotta beat it in one sitting. I'm not used to this new era of Mega Man games that have save systems.

edit: actually, turns out I do have enough PSN points! yay! I'd still like to buy some more though, so if anyone can hook me up I'd appreciate it.

Check Play-Asia to see if they have any versions of PSN JP point cards with the 'DIGITAL' description. If they do, they send you the code. Should be linked somewhere in this thread, I think.

Thanks Volcynika, I'll grab some codes from Play-Asia!

Malicious is awesome! Rough around the edges, but makes up for it.

Strange, as I'm generally not into 3D combat games, but somehow this clicks with me. I didn't get it at first, but coming back here to check the controls made all the difference. I've beaten the library, and been killed a couple of times by other bosses - but got close!

This game reminds me of Treasure's Stretch Panic (EU: Freak Out / JP: Hyper Linda) in lots of ways! The white hub room, the bosses only content, and the magic scarf that turns into fists! It also makes me think that Stretch Panic would have made much more sense as a downloadable game, shame it was nine years too early.

Oh, and the artwork is some of the best I've seen in terms of art direction and creative use on non-photo real shading.

So yeah I had extra points on my Japanese account that I had forgotten about. Bought this earlier today.

I am loving it so far. The framerate does get pretty sub-par when stuff gets really crazy. But now that I have mastered the Chain ability I just make sure to keep the enemy numbers down. :) Chaining the lance feels so good. Splitting a row of 20 enemies right down the middle and having them all disappear in a flash is great.

Not really understanding any of the complaints besides the framerate/camera. The lock on system is also shit however, especially when you try to search out targets and it just bounces around like crazy.

The controls are 100% customizable so there is no excuse to complain there. I just switched the L3 flying/drop to L2 and everything feels perfect for me. I also don't mind the weapon switching on D-pad since I was used to that from Dante in DMC4.

Also you are never stuck in any animation ever. As others have said you can break any animation with guard. Yes even the incredibly slow power sword start up. Because of that the whole slowdown actually does work to my advantage most of the time lol.

I also really like the presentation and what I have heard of the music so far.

Might try to finish it tonight :)

Yeah this game is pretty impressive, especially considering the price.

There are a few small problems throughout but I feel like the overall design is solid as hell.

I also don't agree with the complaints about the bosses taking too long. If you play it damn well you can take them down fast as hell. It's all about taking out fodder to build up plenty of aura and then release and beat the shit out of the boss.

Hell I beat the last boss in 12 minutes on my first try so it's definitely not some ridiculous grindfest unles you are just sucking ;p

I would honestly love to be able to bring this overseas. Especially if a little bit of time could be spent to work on the few problems there are.

Someone just lend me the capital to start a localization firm. I promise I won't do you wrong. lol

After the patch goes up? For sure.
The patch sounds really really impressive.

I thought there was a top-notch game in there, but the camera problems and a few other issues hurt it a lot. If this patch fixes that stuff up, the game will be fantastic. I'm going to give the whole game a replay after this patch goes up and give it a second chance since the developer has put a lot of effort into really fixing and improving his game.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I didn't buy it sooner because I wanted to understand the story. Glad I waited.

I hope it's still only 10 bucks/800 yen.

Hmm, the camera is better, and the framerate is a lot better now, still chugs when there's a bajillion things on screen, but not as bad.

But I haven't played this since release.

My test was on Foughten Fields on Freemode btw, got that 1 kill only trophy. :D
