I am watching the anime and finding it meh, is the manga very different?

The anime butchers the manga. It skips character development, important details, and the pacing is rushed as hell. The manga is clearly filled with symbolism and genius foreshadowing. Also the anime seems like a cliched shonen which the manga is definitely not. So yeah the anime and manga are two completely different things. So I highly recommend you read the manga from the very beginning, considering they rearranged arcs and added filler.

I basically see the anime as a standalone because if I were to compare it to the manga. Which is one of my top favorite manga out there, it's crap.
