Gintama 437

Ho-lee fuck, this has surpassed my expectations.

Of course Shinpachi is still boring.

What are the odds of this happening? This is TLR level of accidentally falling on girls.

Shou's parents are pretty cool, they should have been introduced much earlier.

I really feel like we are just recycling plotlines at this point. Same misunderstandings, Yuki keeps changing sides, and Oonumura is still causing more awkward scenarios with Seiji. And now this Tooru will start showing up and fucking things up with Yuki.

Mangagaf always butthurt about Bleach. Great interview but this should make it to the story somehow.
Such an untold story exists for pretty much every single character, most of them were scrapped to to time issues. There is, for example, the story of what Grimmjow did before Aizen captured Hueco Mundo. I have this one all fleshed out, but could never tell it.

I really liked his explanation about Ginjou being the first sub shinigami.
The part with the backgrounds definitely does.

"I don't want backgrounds, because 'the heart'"
"Then what do your assistants do?"
"They draw the backgrounds."
Hehe.
I'm sure he got a free power-up, to be able to keep up with Ichigo's and the rest. A more tsundere Aizen as Vegeta would be more fun, though.
Grimmjow definitely got a power up since he sliced Kirge in half like nothing.
Lol what a troll

and who the fuck cares about Ururu.. I mean really.

AND AIZEN STILL IMPORTANT FOR THE STORY...
The interviewer asked him about Ururu. And yes i would love it if Kubo had the time to flesh out all of his characters. I loved Starrk, Barragan, Nnoitra and Grimmjow´s flashback even though they were short but to the point and it contributed to their characters. Nnoitra´s flashback is my favorite among the arrancar because of his dynamic with nel.

And of course Aizen is important to the story. He always has been.

Mael, i told you that Gin is dead.

Caught up on the last 3 chapters or so. The scanlators love their sentence enhancers in this series. Meanwhile, Yamada getting jumped only to come back and seemingly beat the lights out of the Noa trio? Seems legit. :p

Bleach

Jo Kaps: "I think it's about time for some drawing, isn't it?"

Kubo: "Alright. What do you want me to draw?"

Kubo's companions pick four people from the audience, each one may choose one character from BLEACH. Post-timeskip Hitsugaya and child Nel (audience complains, wanting to see adult Nel) are picked first, Kubo draws them like this: Crying Nel is clinging onto an irritated Hitsugaya's left shoulder. Hitsugaya stands in 3/4 profile, his head turnded towards Nel. The next pairing is Ulquiorra (leading the audience to boo at the girl who picked him) and Yoruichi (audience applauds in agreement). Kubo draws Yoruichi in the bottom right corner, having jumped down from one of Hueco Mundo's giant red pillars and still falling, looking back over her right shoulder with a stern face. Ulquiorra jumps after her, his right hand extended towards Yoruichi's back. [Note: The drawing process was recorded and will most likely be made availible via internet.]

Haha yes. Ulquiorra is shit.

I really can't fathom who wanted to see Grimmjow more. I mean, other than DTL.

That Kubo interview was awesome, and also a bit funny. I feel like Kubo might be pretty funny considering his manga.

Minor interesting bits, but mostly just a "I'm lampin on my millions, what up people" interview.

Yuki is annoying.

"Oh Shou-Senpai I don't want to bother your relationship with him but can I like, say to him that I still and will always love him and pay attention to him and makes him hear all my troubles and going out with him and so and so even when in the past we were once in a relationship?"

Takemitsu Zamurai 1-15

I couldn't get past the first few chapters a couple of years ago, but I started to chug through it and can appreciate the art style more. Very fluid art.

Edit: No wonder, this guy did Number Five too.

What your impressions of
the dogs dying?

Hmm. It was bound to happen sooner or later it seemed. Ayu's explanation on overbreeding and starvation made it evident that something was going to happen. Who would've thought it was the mushrooms though. The way the dogs died was kind of in line with most of the deaths so far, dying for the sake of others and the living go on to respect that fact rather than break down and be helpless. Reminds me of Slaughterhouse Five, and so it goes.

Apologies. Typing on a phone sucks.

Grimmjow definitely got a power up since he sliced Kirge in half like nothing.

Why? because 3 lamass Arrancars who got oneshotted before couldn't lay a hand on him?
If anything just by rule of surprise attack he didn't need any powerup. He cut the guy in half after all!
Also we already had the backstory of Grimmjow, what more does need to be said about him that we don't already know?
There's literally 10 characters we know less that need a flashback more than this let down of a Vegeta/Hiei.

And people hate Griffith for the Eclipse and can't find any reason why he did what he did?
Also yeah the mafia in HxH is shit, but they're normal people compared to most things and we all know how shit people without Nen are in HxH...

There is no motivation that can justify what he did. GRIFFITH MUST DIE.

But they're the Mafia. The criminal underworld should have a greater understanding of nen and some real firepower in their employ. Otherwise, how did they ever manage to become the Mafia?

well they had like... kurapika in their employ. It doesn't make sense they got worfed as bad as they did but aren't the spiders so good they practically worf the entire planet?

No, one low ranking member of the Mafia hierarchy employed Kurapika as a bodyguard. Their 10 main enforcers died in a single night. But it's also about how the Mafia was totally out of the loop for the entire arc. They were clueless about pretty much everything throughout and the 10 most influential members of the organisation end up dying off-screen without ever seeing it coming.

No worries, I understand that pain. Just wanted to hear impressions on what I think is the most emotionally powerful moment of the series. :p

I found Ayu's speech especially poignant.

Pretty good so far, love Gyro (or Jayro, dunno why they changed it in the French translation).
Seeing him putting his teddybear in his bag was funny :lol

Gyro (or Jayro, dunno why they changed it in the French translation)
For idiotic reasons.
1) We can't use the official spelling, as French readers wouldn't pronounce "Gyro" correctly (yes, this is a serious issue, and never mind all the previous character names: this is the first non-French one in the entire series, obviously).
2) We could use "Jairo", the direct transliteration from the kana, especially considering Araki once used it for a color illustration.
3) Wait, no, French readers wouldn't pronounce that one correctly either... unless we changed it to "Jayro"! Because magic.
Then, when readers complain, we'll somehow call them "purists who would like Japanized names" and say some more stuff that makes zero sense.

Tower of God

The more vocal fans of this web comic must hate these types of chapters cause it seems like Siu apologizes every time there is a chapter with no action. I thought it was a great chapter. It shows what the different teams are thinking of each other and sets up the issue of Baam and Koon being alive. Siu made it seem like the traveler at the end had been brought up before, but I don't think I remember that. Chapter could have used more Rak though.

Wavering on quality at this point. Cool that the demon invasion arc has begun (friggin' finally) and that we're getting some progress with Aoi and Oga (kind of), but I can't help but feel we're just treading slowly but surely into endless power level territory here. I'm frankly amazed the cast can be this big though and still remain relatively readable (even if it just means some characters are explicitly regelated to 'useless character' status like MK5)

I'm not saying he's good and what he did was anything but pure evil.
I'm saying there's good reasons for what he did, there was literally no other way this would have gone any differently.
I mean the guy's lifelong dream and along with his life was cut short and there was no other way he could have achieved it.
I mean better men than Griffith would have done the same, he was after all shown to be ruthless and do whatever it takes to further his goal.
If there's such a thing as really evil, that's a pretty good example of it but it's not out of nowhere like in most fiction.

But they're the Mafia. The criminal underworld should have a greater understanding of nen and some real firepower in their employ. Otherwise, how did they ever manage to become the Mafia?

The way I see it, they're only the mafia.
They deal in illegal stuffs but they're not such an unstoppable force.
Kinda like how in Sunkenrock(I read that too and yes it's awesome, I just finished the casino arc) they make the parallel with a state, the mafia and a company.

Very true, this is shown pretty well in the manga as well how clueless they were on whatever the hell was happening.
The fact that they had to make a manhunt to even get a lead on who the attackers were is pretty telling.
Had the spider not called for the head of mafia it would have ended differently.
Heck it's not even that surprising that the spider would mop the floor with the mafia when you see that the black list hunters were wiped out by Hisoka and Illumi lately!
Simply put, when in HxH they say that the spider is dangerous they mean it. It also shows how powerful the ants were when only some division commanders went on to make their kingdom in the shooting star city they were only wiped by the spider and that wasn't an easy task either.

Really great conclusion to the three chapter story of Tom and Nao. Opening moments with the first kiss for Tom, and then his eventually emotional collapse over not being Nao's first led to hilarious moments, vision, and tears. And thank goodness for mothers in manga, they set up the perfect situation, going out of town, and then forcing Nao to have to stay at Tom's place for the evening leading to one of the most hilarious final two pages in awhile. nsfw? 1 2 3

LOL this author is so great with fake-outs. I seriously thought they were going to have a 6-7 chapter fucking fight-your-friends arc and he just threw the whole thing out the window.

This whole school assault is great fun.

Kubo's chatting a load of crap about that Backgrounds being distracting. They give characters grounding and a sense on place, Bleach regularly feels like the characters are floating in a white fog because of the lack of backgrounds.

And the drawing "focus to the characters" is hot air too. Removing backgrounds is a good tool to give a particular scene weight, or give the impression that time is standing still. For example like in:

But when minimalistic backgrounds are the norm, it loses impact. If you're really clever, you can achieve the effect while still have really detailed backgrounds:

so Kubo doesn't really have a leg to stand on.

so its not okay for kubo to not draw backgrounds in some random panels

but its okay for oda to take to pages and not draw a single background

The problem here is that when xmas is everyday it stops being special.
It's actually more distracting to have a lack of BG than the reverse for any 2 panels.
Oda use it to make the scene special (and btw he's not alone in that, check Clamp, Togashi... it's actually pretty common, kind of like how in movies you only have the sound and no image to get the required mood or something).
Anyway it's not just Oda vs Kubo here.

No. I told you only about Byakuya.
Fun fact is that the death scene of Byakuya looked more like a death scene than for Gin, look who got the axe....
Btw about who gets a pass, I'll use the rule of SJump : Togashi :p
