Hello, all.
I couldn't find a light novel topic so I figured I should just ask this here. I hope that's alright.
Has anybody read the Book Girl light novel series? I'm interested in collecting it but the import cost is rather high so I hesitate a bit. Could anybody kindly give a general impression?
I tried reading the comic version of Book Girl and the Suicidal Mime and I did find the twist wonderful, the theme well-delivered and the paralel with Osamu Dazai's work very interesting (I assume/hope other books would have other works/authors as basis). However I also feel that the mystery layering is a bit contrived and the character motivations a bit unclear (also, weird fanservice sequence in the middle). Basically, not lacking in feels but a bit disappointing in logic.
Perhaps this is simply because the manga doesn't have enough time to build the plot and characters up. I imagine this kind of a novel would use pages of descriptions and musings and thus deliver these point better. So in short, I'm curious how the novel version is compared to it, and how the other novels stack up against it (and how's the quality of the English translation, if that's the one you read).
