Not like this, Arakawa
Another boring fantasy series with dumb made up names and simple writing. I have zero interest to even read the second chapter now.
I am sorry but Arakawa can't even come close to the author of Arslan which is by Yoshiki Tanaka .
LOGH ( Legend of the Galactic Heroes) which he is most well know for better than any shonen out there be it FMA , Big 3 or what ever else .
Also i don't think her art style suits his work at all to tell the truth .
EDIT before i forget Arslan first started in 1986 i really wonder why they doing another adaptation if it .
Either way don't really care about reading this to tell the truth .

I know who Yoshiki Tanaka is. That doesn't change the fact that the first chapter was completely underwhelming and wholly uninteresting and dull. Not to mention, the man has written duds like Tytania so chances are this could be crap as well.

Tytania was bad but it so short compare to his other works .
Truth is this chapter was bad ( just went and read it ) the OVA back in the day had a much better beginning .
I also just can't get over how plain her art work looks for this then again Arslan was Illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano and Shinobu Tanno .
And the anime while full of pretty boys lol still had better look IMO .
EDIT maybe i bias because after i watch the anime years ago i look for all info and artwork i could for the Novels .
I read somewhere that the main site where he posts the story on, pay him per chapter or something along that line.

How did anyone expect Arakawa to attempt to replicate that? I mean when Arakawa was announced....that artwork was to be expected. Her heart is in Silver Spoon.

Yep while the old anime art style not as awesome as the novels the character don't look like FMA rejects .
I mean the king look straight out for Hero Tales compare to his old anime look .
EDIT it should be said i was really looking forward to this until i saw the art style .

I read this because it was by the maker of FMA....And I saw no FMA in it. At best I can say that the general world seems interesting enough but the absolute lack of any decent characters and awful dialogue/writing can absolutely kill this series before it even starts. Things need to improve. I expected better from one of my favorite manga authors so I am quite disappointing.

I mean isn't the original story pretty fantastic? If so the manga should eventually be really good even if it's just an inferior version.

This is what I'm hoping for and why I will continue to read it, but this chapter was very dreadful. The dialogue and character interactions were unbearably cliche and shallow. Not to mention that almost all of the characters seem cookie-cutter stereotypes.

Seemed like the wrong place to "start" the plot. Feel like they would have been better served showing Arslan being bad ass as an adult and then after a few chapters flashing back to awkward child days.

maybe there going to call back to the windmill shadow shuriken they used on zabuza for nostalgia

They are in a way since the cast going to be in normal fantasy type roles in certain aspects .
Don't forget the story started in 1986 so by now things going to look even more cookie-cutter compare to back then i guess .
Arslan is not going to be bad ass , the cast is awesome but not is a Shonen way more like game of thrones in term of skill soldiers .
Don't expect any of craziness in this series expect for low key magic early on it more about war , religious obsession , slavery , the growth of Arslan in terms of being a king etc etc .

I take back my comments I would much rather have fma rejects then everyone having the exact same androgynous face and flowy hair(amano art).
Shinobu Tanno art is excellent it's down grade from that.
Don't worry I like Yoshitaka Amano art when he isn't drawing more then 1 character or unless there's two and the other one is wearing a mask
Amano has been drawing the same face for what 30 years? it must be the face of someone he knows.
Kerberos x Tachiguishi: Harahara Tokei no Shoujo
This was a weird book. Several things went over my head, mostly because of the way the story is told.
It starts off telling us about a young girl that hasn't seen her mother for 7 years, forced to wear an iron dress and told every day that she'll be able to meet her mother if she'll be able to consume her dress. Then she consumes her dress and so she's given an Harahara Dokei (which the notes tell me the author voluntarily modified hara hara tokei in harahara dokei, while wikipedia tells me hara hara tokei is a manual released in March 1974 describing tactics for guerrillas and methods of bomb-making which was an underground publication of the “wolf cell” of the East Asia Anti-Japan Armed Front, a far-left terrorist organization responsible for serial bombings of Japanese corporations in the 1970s including the offices of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 1974.) full of stuff to bring to her mother but on the road she's stopped by a wolf -a nice mix of red riding hood- that asks her what she's got with her. When she says she's got food, the wolf asks her to give him some of it, but she refuses because then there won't be enough for her mother.
At this point there is a switch, and we're in a classic Japanese Ramen Restaurant with a woman eating and from here it only gets more and more weird, because the shifts between scenes happen in a very confusing way.
The woman in the Ramen Shop, O'gin, comes out and meets a Red Riding Hood, after which we readers start to follow this Red riding Hood who is transporting bombs. When she is surrounded by the special unit to arrest her, we're brought back to five hours prior and to O'gin at the Ramen Shop and I'm already wondering wtf is going on.
I'm still not sure if the Bando Ginko that the story follows is the same woman (O'gin) eating ramen or not, though it should be, but as I said, I found the storytelling confusing and so, even reading Oshii notes about O'gin I'm still not sure what to think.
The end of the story was somewhat sad character wise, but nice plot wise. The end of the book instead was, once again, weird, with a "retake" of the initial Ramen Shop scene, this time a little bit different, with some storyboard intermission and stuff like that and a different end to the meet up between O'gin and the Red Riding Hood outside of the shop.
Confusing, weird book, but in a way, a fulfilling read.

Well I already edit it, I've seen the word used to before to describe that persons art on gaf so thought nothing it, he should of been more clear if he was offended by the word so I could change it to something more appropriate.

It's kind of too bad about what happened to Ultear, but it is true that she did a lot of evil things, almost to the end... seriously though, female characters need to stop dying to save Grey. That's two now, as he points out.

I am hoping to see more Teppei v Zebra next chapter but a reveal of Joa's ID would be cool too. I really don't want a cop out like he was Frohze's disciple or son but regardless it'll end in a cliffhanger
Powered through Ao no Exorcist, forgot how good this series was and how gorgeous the color splash pages are. Waiting for a translated ver of ch 47, but took a peek at the raws, I looks like the most enigmatic characters is gonna take center stage. Also Rin enjoying the fest is cute.

Just do what all smart people do: Watch the first season of the anime, love it, and accept that the rest of the franchise shouldn't exist.

No joke, I actually do read this manga for the story and comedy. I don't think any of the girls in this look appealing because of the over-exaggeration of certain things (kinda like the fluid thing you brought up). It's an enjoyable story and pretty funny and that last chapter had me rolling.
What, the same thing happened sometime in Rave Master? That's unfortunate.
