Great post, nails the feeling or boredom I got from almost every track. They are wide, sterile, and devoid of challenge. It has the best soundtrack and looks amazing, but I have to agree with you.
(Edit: it's better than the Wii game. I love mario kart, and I hated that game, although playing on an emulator with a 360 controller and high res split screen was more fun..
What I'm agreeing with is that Mario Kart 8 ain't all that. It's good, but it gets dull really fast. The N64 game is my favorite.. Best crash physics inleseries)
I couldn't quite articulate myself, but my complaints are probably somewhere in your breakdown.... The nature of the game play.. It's like once you know how to play the game decently, you can play it in your sleep. Almost every track feels nearly identical in how you play the game.. There's no complexity to it and it feels dull. I was excited about the DLC tracks but even while playing them I felt bored by them.
The tracks being fucking wide was a complaint I had with double dash even, but yeah, it's worse than ever. It's like they knew some people kept going off track so the solution was to make the track wider than the sun. Have you ever driven up to one of the characters jumping around on the side of the race track? They are enormous! It almost suggests that the player characters were scaled down to give ample space for players who have trouble staying on the track. I've often thought that scaling the entire level down would make for a tighter, more fun race track.
Electrodome is one of the best ever are you kidding me. You race in a straight line the whole time except for a branching path antigrav segment, and there are no hazards at all. It is the archetypal boring as fuck, terrible Mario kart 8 track. You would probably get a heart attack if you played GBA bowsers castle 3 on Wii or rainbow road from double dashEDIT: Electrodome, Mount Wario are two of the best MK tracks ever.
MK64 multiplayer was amazing, not sure what you're on about with it being meh.In all seriousness, considering how meh 64 and Wii were, how Battle Mode has ALWAYS sacked, and how many tracks in this game outright obliterate Double Dash's, I can't quite agree
I thought 7 was the worst. The ex and I played it once, turned it off and went back to 8

The OP is mourning the loss of Petey Pirahna, Funky Kong, and Baby Bowser when it comes to cool characters?
Eesh.
I can agree about the battle mode though, that was surprisingly weak.
You don't have to say sorry, we're just talkin'Sorry, OP. I disagree 100%. It's my favorite MK period.
Learn to read breh, that's not what I said.I stopped playing this game when I get to 10.000 coins in online multiplayer and you say you only get to first place once in 20-30 hours? Maybe you're playing it in the wrong way.
Also, Double Dash is the worst 3D MK.
dawg, you don't know SHIT about Funky Kong
I'd definitely have him over the stupid baby characters lol. And Pink Gold Peach. Outside of the weak roster and battle mode, MK8 is pure gold.
WTF is this. Rainbow Road 8 is easily one of the best, along with Wii and Super.MK8 has the worst Rainbow Road but they make it up with two fantastic Rainbow Road remakes.
I can see the flaws in MK8 but honestly I was never bothered by them. I loved playing it, but I love every Mario Kart game I play. They all have their quirks and flaws but I think they're all a blast to play.
Everything you said was spot on. Coming back in this game, online at least, is really difficult. It wasn't like that in MkWii online, where I would consistently place at least 3rd. Its a combination of items sucking, high speed players getting away on the first lap, and people in the back hitting each other slowing everyone down and letting the people high up escape.I know that the OP is controversial but I definitely agree with some of what they're saying. During my limited time playing it, it definitely felt like the items were underpowered compared to past entries, where worst-to-first could happen at any time. When I fell behind, it seemed like there was zero chance I could catch up, and that felt both very discouraging and very un-Mario Kart to me. I don't know if this mirrors anyone else's experience or if I just need to git gud. Oh, and with the tracks all being very wide, the course design seemed less interesting.
We saw BABY PARK in HD in MK8!!!!!
But it sucked. It made me realize that the reason Baby Park was a blast in Double Dash was because of the constant barrage of giant bananas and bowser shells. You had to pay attention, shit was flying everywhere.
In fact, if you play Baby Park on MK8 and Double Dash one right after the other, it pretty much will define the differences between those two games.
Nah. 8 is potentially best in the series, despite the worst battlemode. If it wasn't for that and the crappy roster, it wouldn't even be a contest, 8 would be so far ahead of all the other games.
