The characters bro.

I'll bet you 1 million dollars that the game would sell more if it would be Mario Kart with all or most Nintendo characters driving in levels based on their IP. Instead of only Mario.

It would also encourage people to try the other IP's out. Like Smash does.
They could easily implement this with DLC complete with Nintendo character themed tracks, a new "NintendoLand" DLC so to speak.

Looks like a great Mario Kart that I'll dabble with for years.

But that presentation... makes me less excited for the Switch 2 launch. It's very much 'is that it?' It's just not the big launch day new game to get stuck into like BOTW was.

I suspect after the first weekend it'll feel like DK can't launch quickly enough.

mission mode?
Sure, but I thought we'd get some info on the new vehicles, for example. Why are people driving lorry trucks and destroying the environment all of a sudden? Why are there UFO:s you can fly around in?

Maybe there's no purpose and it's just 'there' for fun. But it's weird.
Some Baby Mario costume?
Yeah, that definitely looks like baby Mario to me.

For sure. But I'd rather see it being done as standard instead of always the full on Mario approach.

Nintendo has so much IP value. This game is the ultimate way to introduce them to people. Like Smash. Mario only is imo a bad business decision.

DLC worlds and some tracks here and there is a step too late. It should have always been Nintendo Kart.

I honestly don't see much new things that would pull in a newbie.

This is primarily for people who already like Mario Kart, the more you love the series the more you will like this imo.

That looked nice and all concerning the game, although there wasn't much new that we didn't already know. Also, where the hell was the confirmed preorder date and reconfirmed price? Huge missed opportunity here to also lower the game price to at least $70, because this game doesn't scream $80.

They probably want to save at least some ssurprise for when we actually play the game. I personally dont want to know every single thing about the game yet.

Imagine how much less impactful The Depths in TOTK would've been if Nintendo went into depths (no pun intended) with it prior to launch.

The charge jump feels like the biggest game changer to me. Adding more control and skill to the game. Creating shortcuts just on jump on cliff walls alone is huge.

4 players local looked like 30fps, understandable I guess.

Was expecting that. It is rendering the game four separate times.

I have never understood why Nintendo doesn't do the Smash Brothers thing for Mario Kart.

Who doesn't want to drive as Link, Samus or Pikachu?

Would sell way more units for sure. The Mario world is too unfamiliar for majority of people.

Driving through a Metroid world, a Pokemon world etcetc.

Now it's all Mario, Mario, Mario. It's a waste of IP.

Because if everything Nintendo releases goes the Smash route then the novelty wears off.

Mario Kart 8 sold twice as many copies as Smash Ultimate.

Absolutely. And it would sell even more if you could play as Pikachu and if you could drive on a Pokemon track.

Also, everything? I'm only talking about Mario Kart doing the Smash thing. Nobody gives a s F about most Mario characters except the more famous one.

Nintendo has much more valuable characters and IP than the damn Cow.

You would be a fool to think this game doesn't have planned future support and DLC for at least 2 years.

Though Nintendo did miss a perfect opportunity to announce it and at no additional costs.
Exactly, this was the time to show it. To show special events for Xmas, etc. How this game will evolve over time.

MK8 didn't release with Link or Animal crossing stuff, I imagine MK DLC will be used to pad Directs until the next Smash is ready to show.

The charge jump + wall riding lifts the skill ceiling... this is gonna be great for time attack as I love chasing the best ghosts in the game.

Everyone I know (and every "react" video I've seen posted) lost their shit during the Switch 2 direct at the Cow reveal. I think you're underestimating the appeal of the Mario reveal and the novelty to some of these cutesy side characters that would certainly not be included in a "Smash Kart"

My only concern with this game are the sweats. With the new trickset, people are gonna be doing all kinds of crazy wall jumps and exploits. I remember how bad snaking was so I hope Nintendo is able to keep up with and remedy all the forced glitches.

I was also hoping they would shadow drop the pre-orders. It's gonna be a bloodbath when those open up. This thing launches in a month and a half.

I give you the cow. But more people want Pikachu in a cart than the damn Cow mate.

It's intelligent from a casual standpoint. The more deep they go into Nintendo lore, the more casual gamers are alienated.

Disappointed again. The game looks great but most of this could have been communicated in the main Direct.

I hope Nintendo doesn't get into the habit this gen of showing very little in a main Direct then wait a few weeks for a seperate Direct to show nothing new. That is not good communication!

I believe i know our problem know. Whoever is in charge of the Directs in the year 2025, this person needs to be replaced. The Switch 1 Direct was not good and probably should have been in Feb, poor communication around the date and timing.

Switch 2 Reveal Direct, poor communication, Mario Kart Direct was mostly upfront with info, but did not explain DLC or anything else.

I am now believing this is 100% a COMMUNICATION PROBLEM. This needs to be fixed immediately.

FYI: Mario Kart looks like a good "Mario kart". Nothing more, nothing less. Looks good.

I wish the wheelchair basketball game would have been a mode in Mario Kart instead and it was "Bumber Kart" basketball. That would have been their Rocket League moment.

Really good shot at being my game of the year, looks amazing. The jumping and wall riding is really gonna make for some interesting routes and higher skill ceiling (AKA I will beat my casual friends even worse than before) and I'm gonna spend way too much time exploring that world and finding all that secrets. And that's even before I jump online!

Just need Nintendo to let me preorder the damn thing.

Also the music was so, so good. Mario Kart 8 is still one of my all time favorite OSTs and it sounds like they're putting just as much effort and care into this one, can't wait. I hope it doesn't take too long to come to the Nintendo Music app.

You can see why Nintendo is considered the best game developer ever.

They always think in ways to make the game more fun. Not bigger. More fun.

Other developers seem unable to grasp this way of thinking.
Your concept of having fun is not the same for everyone, you seem unable to grasp this way of thinking.

Game will be amazing, but disappointed that nothing much new was shown. For those waiting for some big reveal that would justify the price increase, it was a big nothing burger.

Clues in the title mate.

Also I don't think they could possibly sell "way more" than the last entry, that did what 70 million lol.

What you consider fun, as I guess you did watching the Direct. It didn't seem fun to me, I had fun with Mario Kart on the SNES and N64. Now it doesn't look like fun to me. Everything looks so childish and cutesy, just looking at the character screen selection made me cringe.

I'm talking about general game design philosophy. Nintendo makes games with fun as the main factor. Sequels don't have to be bigger or whatever. Just more fun or at least more original and fun.

How does MK World look more childish than MK64? That was also the first 3D MK game. All games since have similar vibes.

But then it wouldn't be Mario Kart you lunatic.
I already said multiple times that Mario Kart should've been Nintendo Kart from the start. Not in name, but in execution.

This is the perfect game to show of your IP and characters. Much more so than Smash Bros.

People saying they need to add more IP to have a broader appeal and bring in more casual players when the previous release is literally the best selling non pack-in single SKU of all time...

No news on online modes? The griding on rails seems pretty pointless to me.

Seems to be doing just fine if you ask me.

Every man and his dog knows these characters, Metroid etc not so much.

You're right mate. Zelda and Pokemon are only niche franchises. And like I said; it's a celebration of Nintendo and their IP in general. It will push people to games they otherwise wouldn't have played.
