Mario Strikers Charged World GAF Cup

I haven't unlocked anything, as I didn't play much single player yet (only played two challenges and the first cup).

I like the idea of choosing whatever plain stadium. I think now we are "good enough" to know how to set options without causing a snafu.

Hi Tanasten,

if you've got problems, we can skip the final for 3rd-4th place.

As for your question, I'm pretty sure the only games which may have problems with component cables are certain Virtual Console titles.

MSC should play quite fine with such cables -- it surely looks gorgeous with the RGB ones and my CRT. It doesn't make me a better player, though. :lol

We can skip the final for 3rd-4th place. Please, give the third place to MasterMFauli. I have no problem as I'll win the next tournament :D

I have bought online the Wii V-Box (an VGA box that seems to work fine) but has yet to get into my hands (maybe two or three days)

BTW, about the next tournament rules I suggest:

A) Playing every rival for a maximum of 7 wins, switching home players after a best of 3, and playing into The Vice (check different language names into the first page of the thread) and being home the player whose has overcome the bad results.

B) Longer classification groups with 2 rounds each player (the same, switching home players and so...)

C) Non played games scoring 0 points, losers scoring 1 point, winners scoring 3 points.

F) More freedom on the calendar. It' s not like we have to do the Cup within two weeks, give time to people to play the games they must play. We must perform a calendar of matches, and the order of play must be decided between rivals, having like a month to play these. We can play friendly matches to amend the wait...

G) Anyone if free to choose a different team each match. As people is going to play two time switching home players there will be no problems with the team selection.

H) Home players can select any stage they want, unless it's the single 7 round.

Also, I suggest a GAF league in parallel to this CUP, where there is no time limit and there is not a calendar, just a table counting GAF players official encounters (decided between the two players)

I can't join the next one since I'll be on holiday in Spain in two weeks (yes, that's during E3). So I'll just wait out for the third one. :D

Good luck to everyone who's joining in on the second one though.

Oh, and congrats to Haunted One for winning the cup! As a dutchman, I was of course hoping for CapnDrake to win it, but it seems that Haunted One was the better player in the end (well, at least in this final :D).

r0nn and everyone, why don't we just say that we have time to play _all_ preliminary draft matches until 31 July, not two matches per week as it was this time. Also, good suggestion about having two rounds, as a bare minimum the more we play the more we learn (I'm thinking of the less skilled players).

So we will have to play a bunch of matches and will hopefully avoid such problems as not being at home one week and losing a few matches by default. Perhaps when summer is over we can switch back to the normal schedule?

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

I second that, although I don't know if everyone has unlocked that cheat - so I think that as long as it's a featureless stadium, those should be fine.

If you want to play online you dont have to unlock any of the captains. They are all available right from the start. Could it be thats the same with the cheats? I cant check because I unlocked them all singleplayer already :D

I'm in again - hopefully I will manage to get some practice in and beat at least one person this time :D

I think simple like last time will work well but best of 3 for first round, and best of 5 for all other rounds would be cool. And The Vice is a very good first round stadium.

We could always have a 16 player knock out tournament I guess, or just go knock out from the top 8 in the leagues (if we get that many :) )

Man, I know we have too many Strikers threads - I don't know where to post these proposals in. :D I think we're fine using this thread a bit more for the second Cup, though.

We also need an organiser, I think it would be great if max could take that role again, although I know that you're concerned that you won't be always there, we can all help you out. But the last Cup wouldn't have worked as well without you, max. You're driving this forward. :)

Now that is a good idea. Everyone can take the preliminary rounds at their own pace as I think that one month is more than enough to play all matches (of course, that depends on the number of participants, roughly 6 matches can played in 4 weeks without causing any problems, I think) if we have more matches, we should add a week or two - hell, we went through with the complete Cup in less than 3 weeks last time. *high-fives everyone*

Alright I'm in.

Are the arrangements the same as in the first tournement (outlined on the first page of this thread)?
We're just discussing if some changes should be made.

1) Should we make a deadline for signing-up until the 1st of July? Or give other players a bit more time to sign up for the Cup?

2) I think tanasten's proposal of a 7 game series is too much. I think best of 3 is plenty fine to determine the winner.

3) Drake's proposal of using only featureless stadiums is great, I think. It doesn't interfere with the games, but makes the games more varied.

4) We should go with the two team captains and 5 sidekicks rule again, so that people don't choose teams based on their enemies weaknesses (that would give an advantage to advanced players, so it should be regulated beforehand)

5) I think it would be a nice touch if we'd use little flags in the Group Tables, I've got these from wikipedia, and I think it creates a cool international flair. :lol

Please calm down fox, we're still not opening the new thread, for the moment we're still counting ourselves!

Great format anyway, I think I'll steal it.

EDIT: tomorrow I'll open the new thread. There will be time until June 30th to sign up.

Not actually that important
I really think it would be fun to play at least once with every person in the tournie.

Group leagues work fine in World and European Cup because they had qualifying matches to determine who's in and who's not and to rank the teams so that the Groups are well balanced.

If we can't do that, I think it would be nice to have say two groups and then have at least quarter finals.

-So, let's say we are 14:

Group A 7 people

Group B 7 people

-First 4 people from each group play for the quarter finals.

-Also the two best performers from the previous Cup should be each one in a different Group.

What you guys think?

EDIT: I've been saying that for ages, national flags should be mandatory!
So yeah Hauntie, I'm with you on this. Italy+1 :D

Just played dk_ as preparation for the second Cup :D

I don't really know where to post about the game in general - it somehow seems wrong to post in the official thread in the main forum because it's been nearly a month since someone posted there. >_< So I'm just going to keep this one alive. Correct me if there's another place better suited to talk about games played and tactics used.

Anyway, thanks for the games, dk :) . Two things that came to mind while playing:

1) the more the ball is charged, the longer the distance Dry Bones teleports around. You can't (or very seldomly) score a goal directly, if the ball isn't charged. Starting at a red ball and upwards (yellow/white), you need to find the right position and distance from the goalie to score. It's different for each colour.

2) Try to replace Birdo with a heavy shooter that can pass the ball around better. Much of your attack moves are based on passing, and you didn't use Birdo's deke at all. (It helped me score twice quickly - very powerful if used correctly.) Maybe try Hammer Bros. as an alternative that would fit your style better.

See you online
that ****ing headache killed me, so I couldn't continue after the second series. I grabbed some painkillers, but they'll only kick in in an hour or so.
