Sony on Always Online:
Yo guys. Ain't nothing vague about this. Them the facts. Deal.with.it.
Contrast with Microsoft's response on the issue so far in this topic right here.
And that's all the exact same message. And Cerny talked a bit about his feelings on DRM (which he doesn't like) in Game Changers interview. He said that he feels companies should try to make people want to be online by creating communities that they'd want to be part of. That's basically what they're describing here. They aren't going to require you to connect, but they're going to put things in place that they hope will make you want to connect your PS4. You get a bunch of social media and video recording options if you're connect, along with the obvious online play for those games that feature it, but you're not required to be connected.
So either Sony is just flat out lying and all their major execs are in on it, or the PS4 doesn't require an internet connection at all.
