After announcing the end of its longest running title in "Uncanny X-Men" last week, Marvel Comics has unveiled plans for two new series to take its place. Resulting from the events in "X-Men: Schism," the publisher will launch "Wolverine & the X-Men" #1 in October to be followed by a new "Uncanny X-Men" #1 in November as part of its "X-Men: Regenesis" plans.

According to the Associated Press,Kieron Gillen will continue writing the adventures of Cyclops and the mutants who decide to stay with the longtime X-Men leader, while "Schism" scribe Jason Aaron will tackle "Wolverine and the X-Men."

Axel Alonso, Marvel's Editor-in Chief and longtime head of the X-editorial team, told the AP, this plan was one a long time in the making and not a decision made for a quick sales bump. "For five years, we've been getting our ducks in a row to prepare for `Schism,' just as 'Schism' sets up a 2012 event that will have all eyes focused on the X-Men," he said

Stay tuned to CBR for more news on Marvel's X-plans.
Emma, what are you doing? Laura, what are YOU doing?!? >:O

...so Emma sides with Wolverine against Scott? I mean, I know you should generally avoid reading interviews and such if you want to avoid spoilers, but that's a pretty massive plot point to just give away in a promo image.

I haven't been reading X-Men but it seems like it would be better to name it Cyclops & the X-Men. Have a Cyclops run team and a Wolverine run team. At least that's what it sounds like it's going to be. Then when they finally make up they can go back to the Uncanny X-Men.

Is Storm just a nobody background character now? And why are Professor X and Magneto followers now? It seems like Wolverine has leapfrogged a bunch of people in the leadership standings.

have they ever made a comic where all the bad guys in xmen fight each other?
I know Magneto and Apocalypse fought in the Age of Apocalypse series in the 90's, things didn't end to well for Apocalypse.

What the x-books need. Another team led by Wolverine..We need to go back to the Morrison/Casey/Claremont relaunch of the x-books. Have distinct teams with distinct POVs.

It should be:
X-Men: wide scope x-title. uses any x-man and is deeply integrated in Marvel U.
Astonishing/Uncanny X-Men: pick an adjective and make this the "main" team. Have them do their thing old school superhero style.
X-Men Legacy: Character driven storylines.
X-Force: Continue the black-ops theme.
X-Factor: Continue the investigations theme.

and stupid relaunch of Uncanny X-Men. Will go back to old numbering in a year or less. And I like Chris Bachalo's hyper-stylized art.

I loved the show "Wolverine and the Xmen" when it was on TV, but I didn't think it had enough followers to get picked up for a second season. How do they expect to make a successful comic under the same title?

wait so this is a WHOLE NEW SERIES? So someone who never really read comics could get in on this?

Also is Cyclops a bad guy now? wtf is happening here lol, i need to go wiki this shit.

Yes, you can jump in now.

And he's not a bad guy. He's just doing...unsavory things.

Frankly they should scrap it all and just stick to one book. So many friggin books has made Xmen a bitch to follow for so long.

What's with the Wolverine focus and why is he in various teams at the same time? It only gets confusing and tiresome :/

wow

end of an era

No it isn't. By issue 580 they will start having the original numbering in smaller font beneath the new numbering and then the "All new, all original Uncanny X-Men" can be reunited for a grand 600th issue celebration. Come on. All of this assumes it lasts even that long, which is highly doubtful.

Uncanny X-Men canceled can replaced by Wolverine & the X-Men and Uncanny X-Men?

Okay, then.

EDIT: n/m, didn't see the text above the image in the OP

No, no, no, no, no, no.
NO.

...
NO.

They should not do it. If you do not care about them: FINE. But X-Men is too large to have one book, even if it is biweekly instead of monthly. Too large. You need several groups, with different rosters.

So stop with these suggestions, please, as it only shows that you do not really care. I put this in the same category with people wanting a show to get canceled just cause they cant stand watching it. No.

No.

And by the way, I would love them to go back to Genosha-sytle (when it was introduced first, mind ya), and the dying, scared and broken team in Australia - Betsy, Havok, Storm, Longshot, Dazzler and a hiding Jubilee) was so awesome, I constantly miss that feeling and that storytelling.

It, like Spectacular Spider-Man, was canned when Disney bought Marvel. The reasoning is still unclear.

If the teaser image correctly splits up the teams, it looks like a lot of "couples" will be on opposing sides.

Rogue and Gambit
Psylocke and Archangel (I think that is his head in the right corner)
Emma and Cyclops

I also have the feeling that X-men Legacy will get the axe. Four core X-men ongoings is overkill, and will just harm the secondary team books.

That said, I am getting sick of be events in both the x-universe and in general. It's a miracle these days if writers can get in a year's worth of issues without being interrupted by one shoe-horned cross over or another.

I started reading the X-men in the mid-90s and things were definitely at their best for the first few years of Quesada's term as EIC when each book was self contained. Sure they weren't all good, but you could follow a single story with out it being interrupted by Decimation, Messiah Complex, Messiah War, Dark Reign, Necrosha, Second Coming, Schism, etc, etc every 6-12 months.

For a fan sure, but as seen constantly, the x-books have become impossible to get into by new people because of the clusterfuck it all is. As sales continue to plummet, you are losing fans while not allowing any new ones in because of how hard they have made it. Has nothing to do with wanting it to fail, but that it's destined to continue to spiral downward till eventully stupid things are pulled out in attempts to reinvigorate it. Like vampires lol

The oversaturation of Wolverine is ridiculous.

The character stopped being interesting back in the nineties, but they push him so hard. I still like the original, but come on.

Holy Christ, Jason Aaron and Bachalo on a REGULAR X-MEN TITLE?

NOBODY WAKE ME UP.

SERIOUSLY.
In a perfect world Bachalo would draw everything.

ever.

Wait, what? So Psylocke will be leaving X-Force? :(

Also, the Magneto side isn't the "bad guy" side. Just the side that wants to stay the fuck away from regular humans. And it's actually the Cyclops side.

xmens sales are plummeting? news to me they seem to have a very large following since the 80's. The industry on a whole is seeing declining sales over the past 10 years didnt know xmen specifically was doing bad. They do have 3 times as many books as the used to have when it was just Xmen and Uncanny Xmen so that also may factor in.

Those are not the final teams or sides.

Nothing clusterfuck about this.
If some reader has such a dumb mind that he cannot understand something that even a 8-year old children can be explained to, then I do not know if it's the comic's fault. It goes like this, watch me:

"So, listen up. There is Uncanny X-Men, which is the book that deals with all the important stories going on in Utopia, the island all the X-Men live on right now. Also, there is a second team in the island, often commanded/leaded by Rogue, that is what X-Men Legacy is for. There are mutants who currently do not live in Utopia, they are currently a private investigation agency under the name of X-Factor. Because this is a huge group, there is also a few other groups, often focusing on one individual like Wolverine or X-23, but we also have 2 different kind of books, namely: Uncanny X-Force for a stealth and deadly killing squad, and New Mutants for a specific, younger kind of mutants".

There you go. Nothing off-putting or confusing.
If you really wanna "mess" with people, you can count in alternate realities or X-Men where it is a fresstyle about which group to include and what to happen. Or the Hope sheningans. But mainly, it is not hard to know what X-Books are there, and what you might like or not.

Hm. I hope they keep with the "paired characters on opposite sides" theme though. It'll make for a fun mini-Civil War style storyline.

I swear last night I sent a tweet to Marvel comics asking if they could pick up the Wolverine and The X-Men tv series cause the end of season 1 was good (and people died) then it teased the AoA storyline for season 2. Before Season 2 could be released, the show got canned. Now I wake up and read it's a Wolverine and The X-Men comic....maybe they mis-read my request?
