Panama has just confirmed its first coronavirus case
From CNN's Elizabeth Gonzalez and Jackie Castillo in Atlanta.

The Panama Ministry of Health has announced the country’s first case of coronavirus.
The 40-year-old patient who contracted the virus had recently traveled to Spain, where at least 647 infections have been confirmed and 28 have died. She reported having a fever and cough and is now at home in isolation.

Really good news in South Korea, do it right get rewarded with great results

Source note: (not sure where BNO gets the morning 35 it is like the dumb 69 number they posted that confused things yesterday)
No official source has it released like that, they should say where and how they get this special morning tip make it more clear

great news

Our prime minister told us yesterday day in a special appearance, don’t shake hands 🤣

Trump has nothing on him, we have intelligence. 🤪

On top of that he forgot his own rule and shook hands with the head of our CDC!

We will sacrifice our Dutch society, so that other countries can learn!

It's the more common cause of pneumonia for influenza, and secondary bacterial infections is also one of the main causes of death from the flu.
Yup.

That’s why this virus is dangerous, you get viral pneumonia. With flu you mostly get bacterial pneumonia. And that can get treated with antibiotics .

And you need intensive work 24/7 to keep you alive and breathing .

Probably mechanically, which ever country has a shortage in.

A maximum of 5% of patients need artificial respiration at all. The 15% of disease courses that are critical are usually pneumonia, which does not require further treatment. It is therefore quite possible that you simply lie in hospital with fever and other symptoms or even without symptoms and wait until the pneumonia has subsided.

The 5% just mentioned are probably much lower. It's quite possible that as soon as you just get more cases, not only the death rate but also the critical cases will go down. An example of this could be South Korea. Out of 7,212 active cases, there are only 36 critical cases.

You don't lie in the hospital unless you need oxygen or mechanical ventilation. In Italy they're running out of beds even for those cases.

That's not true. Pneumonia is more often accompanied by breathing problems, which are not life-threatening and to some extent normal, but which require observation. This is why people stay in hospital.
In addition, only in hospital can a quick and comprehensive diagnosis be made, which is another reason to stay in hospital. If you go to the doctor with pneumonia and have problems breathing, the doctor will not send you to other specialists, but to a hospital. It's all about the mere danger that pneumonia can become dangerous quite quickly.

By the way, I did not talk about an intensive care unit, which many hospitals also have. The topic was hospitals in general.

Italy is once again a topic in itself. There, an extremely large number of elderly people are affected, which pushes up the critical illness rates.
Unfortunately I do not have any current figures, but just a few days ago, when the number of deaths was already over 100, 0.1% were under 50, 2.8% between 50 and 59 years old, 8.4% between 60 and 69, 32.4% between 70 and 79, 42.2% between 80 and 89 and 14.1% were 90 years or older (source: https://puntomagazine.it/2020/03/06...dellistituto-superiore-di-sanita-su-covid-19/). As far as we have been able to read to date, the percentage distribution has changed very little.

Czech Rep closed all schools (excluding universities and kindergartens) and all public assemblies of ANY kind above 100 heads. Which means Avril Lavigne's concert is cancelled :messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying:
Just fucking heard that few minutes ago, we are pretty much in full lockdown. Aside from restaurants and shopping centers, which does fucking make sense, but I guesss it generates money...

Yes, I was typing that on the phone, I fix that, sorry about that. It's not really that funny, because right now I am in IKEM awaiting some surgery and it looks in here, like in zombie apocalypse.
I never said it was funny. I am, however, glad I bought all the necessities and some extra supplies before this whole craze started because after today Globus and TESCO will turn into pure pandemoniums. I'm almost feeling like going there just to take some historical photos for my grand children. I wonder how the Sunday mass will look like since most Prague churches have attendance of over 100 people so now they will try to fill out our countryside churches.

Well kosik.cz/rohlik.cz still operates, which is what matters (I don't know if you are in reach of their services, tho). And with Sunday mass, I am not so sure, that religion is big deal in Czech Republic. Especially in Prague, on the east is probably more of an issue, but I hope that people understand the danger.

The religious communities here are quite large, much larger than most think but they aren't vocal about it. I work for the Archdiocese and was quite surprised how many people are involved with the Catholic church here in CZ. A lot of masses even on workdays during the day are pretty full with around a 100 people attending and Sunday masses at Strahov, Salvator and others are packed with hundreds of people attending. Even our small countryside church has regularly between 60-100 people.

Kosik/rohlik is very popular in our village, I see their trucks outside stopping at houses quite often, even TESCO deliveries.

Ahoj pepik?

I don't understand the reason of closing down one venues but leaving open things like shopping centres. Or public transportation. Thousands of people go with buses and trams here, these places would be the biggest contagion points.

Right? On the other hand what else can you do? Stop all public transport? It is practically impossible to move around our country in a car now, I can't even BEGIN to imagine the insanity that would start should trains and buses stop.

it feels like the worst of the panicking is over.

That's interesting, because I am living here 31 years (well yesterday it was 31 years....sadly, getting older) and number of Religious people I met is very very low. And even based on self reporting, the amoung people who count themselves as religious was really low. if I remember that correctly. Anyway does you village has very long name (basically name of two towns together)? It would be fun, if we are from the same town near Prague.

As mcz117chief mcz117chief said, we are here in full meltdown as of today's morning. I am even more stressed, because I am in hospital, where could be people who are infected. I wear mask and gloves, but still, shit is really dangerous for me after transplant...

I'm from Hovorčovice but was born in Prague. Most people only figured out I was religious after many years, probably most of my high school classmates still don't know, I haven't discussed it very publicly until I became older and built a solid foundations for my faith.

I wonder how long until my country (England) gets locked down.

I work at a school so I will probably be one of the few to get time off work, but I am a bit wary of our government and how badly they can be ran sometimes.

Interesting, well I hope that is working for you. Your faith I mean. Anyway if you would need some masks (pff3) or disinfection, hit me up, you are 10km from where I live at the very edge of Brandys nad Labem-Stará Boleslav where Hrušovský Rybník is. Since I get that shit from hospital, due to my condition. I guess that in these situations, we should stick together.

Be safe GAF. And remember, hand sanitazers are only useful if you don't have clean water and soap available. Soap is the best thing, it deactivates the virus very quickly. Don't touch your face (wear gloves to prevent it) and keep food in your house enough to last 2 weeks.

It's going to be worse before it gets better, but in a few months it will be over.

I'm fine, they barely work anyway, besides my mom is a head nurse at the VFN. I would rather catch it now while the hospitals are still empty then later when there will be no beds available :D If you would like, I could come for a visit, we could obliterate some oranges and beers for vitamins ;)

Well thanks, but I can only go for oranges, since after transplant alcohol is prohibited : )

For some reason I find it fascinating, that I find someone living close by on some USA-centric gaming website. It's cool : )

Wish you a quick recovery and that everything goes back to normal as fast as possible, mate...
Yeah well problem is that I am recovered, but I need to take imuno-suppressants till the end of time, because otherwise my body would crush my liver, so I am naturally far more vulnerable to these types of diseases. And even more complicated is that I have dvo different DNAs and viruses, by design attack DNA, so basically half of me could be ill and half of me don't which creates pretty shitty situation. This is the real issue in here, I am pretty much fine, aside from the fact, that my head is still slightly fucked.

Coronavirus is now in every EU country, as Cyprus detects its first two cases
From CNN’s Ivana Kottasova and Eliza Mackintosh

Every country in the European Union now has cases of coronavirus, with Cyprus having detected two cases as of Tuesday, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said.

I wish you all the best! Look on the positive side, I think you're lucky your country is taking more drastic measures so soon. This may be scary at first, but in the end it's a good thing, because the lower the risk for you from now on, compared to if the measures had not taken place at all or only later at some point.

Our measures were non existent until today. My mom works at the largest hospital in the nation and they were fighting over, stealing and hiding even the most basic medical supplies there among the individual wards because companies which were supposed to supply the hospitals sold all their stocks to private companies and citizens and told my mom, when she wanted to order a fresh batch of veils to perform operations, to basically fuck off. The first time somebody was suspect of having a corona their samples were sent to Germany because we didn't have a SINGLE lab in the whole country that could positively identify Corona. People were traveling all over the world without basically any limitations and nobody was tested when they came off of planes from China, Italy etc. My mom was absolutely livid at the state of our preparation, or rather it's complete non-existence.

If you don’t take radical measures, almost direct you are fucked.
And seeing how chill most countries are. You will see lots of hospitals not cooping in the next few weeks.

Interesting back story of this situation. I can only speak from IKEM and they prepared me for this in early february. Basically got home sick, stuffed me with desinfection, masks and gloves. Give me instruction where I can go and where I cannot and basically supply me with enough shit, that I have enough for whole year for my family. But IKEM kind of works differently from other hospitals, based on my experience.

My luck is far more in that, the Czech rep. has free transplants, so it basically cost me nothing. It's one of the few countries, even in likes of Germany it's fairly expensive procedure. And they take very good care of me in every regard, they do it for a year, so for me until April 20. which is uncomfortably close, based on what is happening.

I'm slowly giving up on explaining to people like you that the most important thing about information is always context.
Sure, it's an exceptional situation for many doctors and the whole staff, but if you want to discuss the "fact" that in every country most doctors suddenly start to cry and break down, then I'd rather save my time.

So please stop lecturing! Thanks.

You can always put me on ignore ! If that gives you rest!m

You know what’s exceptional , a whole country in Europe that’s modern in Quarantine...

That’s reality, that’s happening in the now.
