my state doubles in cases from the last time I checked.

I just had my next visit to the hospital to flush my port pushed back for a bit longer.

Im generally not a hypochondriac but I've had a tightness in my chest today and have been needing to take extra deep breaths since it started. Early 30s. Good general health.

Worth noting that I had a physical Friday and nurse practitioner didn't comment on lung exam. Flu and TBAP adminiatered(I posted on the thread Saturday about that). Lab results were fine. LDL barely above optimal. White blood count a little low. Creatinine slightly elevated.

Slight cough/congestion that I've attributed to seasonal allergies. Needing to clear throat and the like.

Breathing/tightness has not prevented me from ADL but it's there. Any chance this could also be allergy related? At what point would you become worried and to call someone?

I generally get allergies this time of year but not asthmatic responses.


I use Spiriva and Advair for COPD. Any concerns about continuing to use these two inhalers?

Well yeah but it is in addition to those deaths of course, and he is saying that the rate of infection will tail off in two to three weeks, so we are due for a massive increase in deaths in the mean time, which makes it a pretty effective disease in such a short span of time.

Hopefully there isn't a spike in deaths. Let's revisit in a week to see what happens.

Also the disease has been in the wild since November at least. First confirmed case in UK was January 31st, same timeframe as Italy and the USA confirming their first cases.

Why does UK have 55 deaths but Italy has over 2100? Clearly there are missing variables here.

Quick EDIT:

As of 17 March, after performing 50,442 tests, there have been 1,950 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom.​

That's only 3% positive, after screening for only testing those who show symptoms.

I think the stress of this (or all the vitamin supplements Im taking now) are destroying my stomach. Where I live we have been getting a crazy early spring in an area that is already bad for allergies so everybody is stuffy, sore throats, burning eyes, etc. Coronavirus has been confirmed here as well (2 deaths) so there is just this constant low lying fear/stress/anxiety that you already have it or everyone around you has it. It doesnt help that my lady has been totally stressed out because her work is basically still beating around the bush on this entire issue so she has started to use vacation time so she doesnt have to sit in a room filled with people, some of which are coughing (probably from the allergies mentioned above but who knows?)

Ive had an on off sore throat for two weeks, stuff nose, and so has my lady. Nothing has progressed beyond that though and we are taking our temps twice a day.

From what I heard mask won't prevent from getting it, but will prevent from spreading it. Since you will cough in your mask etc...

And you can wear a mask, touch a surface that has Corona on it, and then touch your face to remove your mask and bam infected.

People need to understand it's not the death rates that are the most concerning thing here, it's the % of people requiring critical care.

  • 1 in 10 for 50-59 once hospitalised
  • almost 1 in 3 for 60-69
  • coming up to 1 in 2 for 70-79
  • 80+ doesn't bear thinking about
These are numbers that are crippling for any healthcare system and in turn have an effect where people with other medical problems can't get the required help/facilities so end up dying. It also becomes a death sentence for those who get COVID-19 and require critical care at a point when hospitals are already at full capacity.

This is what a serious virus with no vaccine looks like. This is why it's not "just the flu bro".

I am wondering how these numbers jive with the reports from Netherlands/France/Italy that half the people in hospitals/ICU's are under 50. This data seems to be based on Chinese numbers so is it worse in EU?

Hate to say it but to save hospitals we need to basically quarantine old people. All measures being taken are important, but keeping this away from old people will save your hospitals. If this explodes in populations over 50 then its game over.

I suspect in Italy it hit a large senior community and this kicked off a spiral that just overwhelmed the system. We see in the states that they had a retirement get hit and thats like half the deaths in one state. In Canada we have 4 deats, 3 are from one retirement home. So I imagine in Italy some old community got hit and then bam ICU's over run and when the odd younger person came in now its just too much for their system. Spain and France look like they are heading down the same path.

I have to assume that Germany and Japan have basically been able to somehow keep their elderly from getting this. Japan is really strange because they have a super old population. You would think they would be ravaged by this but somehow they haven't collapsed their system. (and please no discussion about fake numbers Japan isn't Iran they can't do that shit).

Lockdown is pointless as cure, unless you lockdown forever.

The only reason country's currently lockdown is to get relief of the hospital systems that's it everybody will get effected one way or the other. this virus ain't going away.

Probably old people. Italy probably let it loose in a place with a shit ton of old people and then it ravaged through that community overloading the hospital in Lombardy. Italies numbers show all the deaths are basically over 60.

So if you had 10K infected, 30% are over 60, thats 3K, and 30% go into the hospital thats 900 people. Add in the under 50 crowd and they are overwhelmed. And then of those 900 people 400 or so are in ICU and its close to game over for one city to handle. 75% cases of Italy were in Lombardy. I don't think many cities can handle that type of volume in their hospitals. Spread 400 ICU cases across all 50 states in the US you are probably ok, concentrate it all in Burlington or Hartford and the hospital wont be able to handle it.

With Italy you're probably right. The spread of the virus in nursing homes and retirement homes is a nightmare.
