Buy staple ingredients. Panicked buyers tend to buy stupid things and they leave a lot of the useful stuff behind.

Hopefully once some countries get over the worst, they can begin reaching out to others to provide relief.
Yup, food-wise that's what I've been doing. A good meal in these sort of times doesn't have to be a fancy meal. The greater concern for me are the non-food essentials -- stuff such as toilet rolls, shower products, washing up liquid, detergents, etc., which are becoming increasingly hard to get.
If it weren't for the small spare supply I built up, I would have nothing today.

As each day goes by and it gets worse, the hopes for this being gone in a month become so obviously and clearly unrealistic.

Lol at that reply

Have I missed something here, or do they not know how wi-fi works?

"Dang this Xbox update is 30 gigs."

"No worries, bruv. Just switch over to wi-fi".

It looks like they got what they want. Make the people feel that they're responsible. Punish the little man. I'm surprised at how quick it was - like a bullet to the back of the head.

I am not going to be its just the flu but

from 18-49 about 5500 people died from regular flu.

People can die from anything, young people included. Until we get actual data we have to go with the numbers that show deaths under 50 are rare.

Italy the epicenter of it all only had 17 deaths under the age of 50. Out of 2500 or so.

Of course this is serious disease, but I keep seeing ancdetotes about young people crowding hospitals and or dying, but every single data point shows the opposite.

Of course this is not reassuring to those above 50. And if you are in your 70's or over then this is really deadly so there is no comfort to those people that young people are surviving.
I was more complaining about the reporting. Having issues as a child does not make you "at risk". Having had testicular cancer doesn't either if you are well. His case is odd and the reporting of it is bad. Regardless, RIP.

What is the accuracy of these numbers?

Per our governor's executive order, Texas statewide has closed all schools, bars, food courts, & gyms until April 3rd earliest.

Restaurants can stay open via takeout or drive-thru only.

Im really hoping for that ball to drop here in Florida : Limiting groups to 10 but telling 400 capacity restaurants they can only go half capacity is ridiculous.

Accurate according to several official statistics. (They source everything below the table. Take a look).

So, as accurate as you can get, exceptions include countries themselves misreporting and small errors due to conflicting sources. (Two agencies counting deaths differently for example). The second one is usually just a small difference.

Aside from that there's of course the lack of testing. Death rate is almost certainly not going to be 10% at the end of this for example.

Is this talk about hydroxychloroquine being a cure for real or there's a catch?

President Trump was talking it up today. There was some confusion over whether the FDA had "approved"* it for treating COVID-19 but apparently that doesn't really matter: if a doctor wants to prescribe it for COVID-19, he can.

It's early but it's the most promising development so far.

Related:

*There may be different kinds of FDA approval, hence the confusion. Apparently the FDA has approved it for compassionate use.

Someone feel free to correct me but there have been no completed clinical trials that prove this is an effective treatment for COVID-19. You cant just start throwing drugs at people.
Plaquneil is a drug from 1955 and well documented. I was on it against lyme and it worked well.

But It is dangerous to take more than 5mg/kg since it can cause serious eye damage.

well I just got some interesting news - several of my patients have tested positive for covid 19. Some I interacted with before they were placed into isolation. Woke up yesterday with sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, occasional cough, but no fever. It is likely I have contracted this virus, but I won't be able to confirm because my state does not have enough kits and only those in emergency type situations are being tested. Just the other day hospital admins were going around trying to reassure everyone that noone has tested positive, but now all these tests are coming back positive. It's everywhere.

It's just surreal seeing NYC so desolate. There are still stragglers, but a far cry from a typical Thursday afternoon.

Also, absolutely no traffic going to and from the city to get to the office, and not a soul in sight at work. It's also impossible, for me at least, to not touch your face after touching stuff. Definitely have whatever might be on that Uber door handle or seatbelt in my left eyeball right now.

First day of working from home today. I can see this getting old real quick.

Shouldn’t complain really. I’m still coughing a lot and it keeps others safer. It’s just the lack of any social element. In fairness my company issued a statement encouraging us to email or phone colleagues every now and then for small talk and to keep spirits up.

Stay safe and heal up.

If anywhere can keep this fucking thing contained it's the prison system.

Will they test these prisoners or just release them?

IF anything they are probably safer inside a prison then outside it. Even if someone catches it well you can easily lock down isolate them.

"Spring Break's done," says Florida's governor
From CNN's Denise Royal

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he issued an order Thursday morning to limit gatherings on beaches to no more than 10.
"So what you've see now is a lot of the sheriff's departments have instituted protocols … Cocoa Beach, major spring break destination went down 70% since my order. And so, I think that's a more prudent approach to do social distancing," the Republican governor said.
The governor also wants Spring Break vacationers to know that the party is over.
“Since I issued my directive, anybody who's put that in place, spring break’s done. Any place to go for bars and all this done. They don't have a place to go.”
DeSantis added that he spoke to the US surgeon general recently about social distancing. He doesn’t want people living in the Sunshine State to stay inside all day if they feel fine.
“They [medical experts] want you to social distance, of course, but they actually encourage people to get fresh air. They just don't want you congregating in big groups. And so, if you have a Floridian that, you know, goes walks their dogs like a married couple on the beach, as long as you're not within six feet of each other, they view that. And, you know, that's a healthy thing. And so, I think it's important to allow that if the local communities want to do it, to be to be able to do it," he said.
