I'm about a year late to the party, but I finally started Mass Effect 2 and just wanted to chime in real quick:
Entering Afterlife on Omega was probably one of the most eye-popping, immersive gaming moments for me this year so far. I just recruited Mordin and Archangel

I liked jack. Tough bitch on the surface but I enjoyed her story and love using her in my team missions. Misunderstood total. HER CHILDHOOD WAS ROBBED FROM HER GAF!!
I want to get to know Jacks backstory more in the game, but I don't think I can unless I pursue her. If I walk up to her I only get "I want to talk about us" and "Goodbye."Leatherface said:

Anyone know how to force AA in the PC (STEAM) version of ME2? I tried forcing AA at the driver level, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I lost jack, legion, thane and mordin. WTF I was so upset when those bat things took Mordin away. fucking miranda couldnt hold up the force field.

And I don't want to be that guy but I'm surprised so many people got their squadmates killed. Just seemed like a no brainer to me who was best suited for each role and to not start the suicide mission without anyones loyalty.
I'm sticking with this original save file until the end of times if Bioware keeps re-using it.

Having to live with the awful shit that happened on the first game was a huge part of Mass Effect 2 for me. And I'll live with the awful shit that happened on the second one.
That said, terrible shit that happened to me seems less terrible than what happened to some people here.

But I do plan to play both games two more times, one having a pure paragon and the other having a pure renegade.
My first game was a mess, because I thought: "I will be tough, but nice". So I bought all the points for Intimidate, while trying to be a Paragon.
The good thing is that, while I am mostly Paragon, I do have enouh renegade points that the red option keeps appearing on the game.
Lost Wrex and Ashley on the first game. Lost Thane on the second. I didn't really liked Ashley, but the other two losses have some weight for me, especially since Wrex died basically because I was a pussy and didn't want to use the renegade line when I could.

Oh ffs. I finally wanted to try all the DLC this game has gotten. I find my copy, open it up...and only one DVD is inside. I check through all my other dvd's, my stack of loose dvd's, even opening every case to check if I accidentally misplaced it. Nope. Where the fuck has it gone? I just missed the steam sale too, if I wanted to rebuy it I missed my chance.
Finally started this a few days ago (360). Terribly lttp, but ME is one of those games you have to sink your teeth into and now I can give it the attention it deserves.
So eh, wow. I really can't begin to describe how impressed I am. So far not only has Bioware ironed out most of the ME-kinks, but in the process delivered one of the most polished games I've played recently. The performance is just way, way better and I'm so glad they removed all the moonbuggy sections. It's just a complete joy to play now and a pretty seamless experience at that!
A friend of mine was a bit disappointed in the game because of the general streamlining and removal of rpg-elements but so far I don't feel the same. I'd complain if the overall experience suffered, but somehow the extreme streamlining works. This game is still all Mass Effect, only now without the terrible inventory system and copy paste planet exploration. Combat works a lot smoother now that the devs have just fully embraced that it's a shooter with some spell casting. Glad I don't have to bother with changing ammo types every few encounters. Yeah it's even less of an rpg now, but it wasn't as if ME1 was the deepest rpg to begin with. They just kept what worked and threw the flawed elements in the trash insteading of changing them. It worked.
The depth remains where needed and by this I mean the world and characters of course. ME2 succeeds to draw you into the world even more than the first game. I'm way more invested into my party members and their specific sidequests have been amazing so far, even better than the main quests tbh. Completed Jacob and Mordin's loyalty missions and it seems a lot of work went into these. I've accepted all of my party's personal quests and I intend to sit through all of them before returning to the main quest. They're pretty much a must if you want to know your crew better.
The only baffling inclusion is the scanning/probing of minerals. Shit gets old fast and I'd guess it's been brought up here numerous times, but still. Weird that Bioware didn't feel this'd get stale in a heartbeat. Still, it's way better than exploring 100 samey planets and digging up stuff there.
I've only played for 10 hours, so it's a bit early to dish out this kind of praise and I'll see where the story goes, but gameplay-wise... It's a massive improvement over 1.

Just a question from the demo... um how do I put on Shepard's helmet? Don't you do that in squad screen? And also, how do I equip/unequip weapons? Playing as an Adept I think it kind of silly to be running around with a grenade launcher I have no ammo for or desire to use.
Is this just silly demo things?
Seriously the helmet thing is kinda wtf. Why would they take that out of the demo... the helmets are cool! I loved ME1 walking around Citadel in full armor as a Renegade like don't even think about fucking with us, we will wreak your world.

Helmets no longer have a toggle. They are a distinct piece of your armor, and you can only equip by visiting your quarters on the Normandy.
You pick your weapon loadout at the beginning of every mission. Occasionally you'll find a weapon locker in the middle of a mission to change loadout (generally right after you find a new gun).

The Planet Scanning is something that most people dislike doing. Anything that forces me to STOP playing the actual game like in this instance is a bad design choice IMO. BioWare shouldn't want players to almost fall asleep holding the joysticks in the same direction for minutes just to gather some resources when they'd rather be playing ME2.
I'm sure they could've thought of better ways to gather resources than this, but they have patched it since the games release so the scanning radius and speed is MUCH improved. It was a lot worse when the game was launched.
Curious to see what they do for ME3.
Well, have currently been playing ME1 again on PC, and have completed a male Paragon, and recently started a female renegade with firy red hair and lips and blue viking eyes as as a berserk viking warrior and I am loving it...shut the fuck up, I am tired of this bull- and you suck! lolz...having a blast.

Wont mean much considering the source, but the second review for Mass Effect 2 PS3 is in; 10/10 from OPM.

just beat ME 1 for the first time today, next up is the Bring down the sky dlc then ME2.
my only complaints about ME1 are the pacing (specifically the middle of the game), the mako (hated it from the first time I used it), limited inventory, and the combat came up a little short. My understanding is all of these issues were addressed for ME2 soI'm hyped to get started. oh and holy shit is the last part of ME1 great.

Inventory is pretty much gone completely in ME2. Its more based on load-outs.

So I just got three new dossiers
and I haven't touched any of the loyalty missions yet. Just wanna get a little bit of info on how much more of the game I got ahead of me. Plan on doing all of the side quests as they appear. Also can I finish the main game and then do the DLC or do I need to do that before the suicide mission?
