Mass Effect 3 Face Import Bug ME1 > ME2 > Nope ME3

Hi everyone

We are aware that some players are having issues importing the faces of characters from Mass Effect 1 or Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3. The issue is likely in how faces were detected when imported from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2, and we’re working on the best way to correct it for affected players.

As our teams work hard to address the importing of face codes we would like to call out a fan made tool that may be able to help PC users in the short term:
Mass Effect Tools

I missed this as I was keeping out of the OT thread (incase of spoilers), what a shitter!!!!

Not playing without my Shep, dying to play, can't recreate him either, not close enough :(

As per my post in the OT:

FOR PEOPLE IMPORTING AN ORIGINAL ME1 CHARACTER:

ME3 is incompatible with faces built on the original ME1 editor. The reason for this is while ME2 takes raw ME1 data to transfer your face, ME3 does not, instead using the generated ME2 face codes. Unfortunately when importing a ME1 face into ME2, your character will not generate an accurate code. Thus, when importing into ME3, no face code exists for the game to read.

You can still import your character and all your decisions from previous games, but you will need to remake your face.

Or you can follow the instructions on this website to generate the most accurate ME2 equivalent face code for your ME1 original Shepard. It works very well. There will be some errors, due to the script used to generate the code, but most of these are basic and easily fixable things like hair/brow/iris colour. All the little details, such as facial shape, jaw width, nose height, etc, these will transfer correctly. The website used to generate your code will list what features it reset to default anyway, making it easy to see what you need to fix.

This works for 360 and PC saves.

Thanks EC, might try that hack to get my guy but man what a huge kick to the balls, total disappointment.

Hope they fix it before I get the game, I kind of like my shep so this news is kind of depressing :lol

Edit: and after reading the "fix", ahh now I understand why the code thing was messed up in 2, I remember my shepard didn't get a code, and one of the new game did but that code gave me a different shepard.

I feel like this is a thing they should have handily caught well before the game was launched.

It didn't take long to long for me to redo my Shepard anyway. ME isn't exactly Skyrim when it comes to character customization.

Definitely some left hand not talking to right hand going on over there... because there are a hell lot of references to ME1 shit in this game. hmmmm.

Arg going back into the editor to get it close (played the last missions on ME2 DLC this week) and it looks like my guy is replaced with a different actor mid TV series!!! :(

No and I bet in the patch you would have to start again to get the right face instead of just fixing it. :(

The manual fix doesn't make them look the same :X
The second one is close/the same though.

Slightly off the topic of the thread but... as a PS3 player, what will my ME2 imported female shepard look like in ME3? Exactly the same? Am I given an option to change her face or hair or anything?

I'm getting the game next week

My femshep looks similar to the one you have, 3rd pic. Bioware totally changed that hairstyle...

Though my custom maleshep looks the same.

Nah that's not mine, they're just the examples from the site:

Yeah yours look pretty close, I guess you can't get it to look 100% since the assets were changed/improved.

do your mass effect 2 cyber scars port over to mass effect 3 (if you decided to keep them)?

That picture is still from the demo. I'm close to finishing ME2, again. But I decided to remove the scars, since I do not know whether I can remove them in ME3.

But I don't think it's possible to keep the scars, since it's not something you can choose while creating your character. Not sure though.

what the fuck

my Shep is crucial to me...

this is the last time I preordered the game ever. My collector's edition hasn't arrived yet so I'm glad I heard about this before installing the game.......

Bioware can go fuck themselves.

How did Bioware fuck this up?
Absolutely wonderful community reputation they've managed to build this gen.

I'm glad I decided to stick to multiplayer until later.

I won't play the game if they don't fix this. It's like the whole point of playing this crap.

is it paramount issue or just some people have being experiencing it?
All 360 users who imported from ME1 into ME2 will have this issue. The only way to avoid it is if you tweaked the look in ME2. If you redid the face in ME2, it imports fine.

I'm on PC. Can anyone who owns it on PC confirm this?

what the fuck Bioware... just what. the. fuck.

This is fucking ASTONISHING. Was just going to start playing tonight, but now it looks like I'll be fucking around all evening trying to get around this.

They fucked up the Kaidan/Ashley info too. I saved one but the imported save says I saved the other. Sucks.

FUCK THAT. I guess I'll just stick to MP for a while until this gets patched.

Indeed. And at least the MP is a lot of fun.

This really pissed me off. I got close, but the slight differences still really irk me. Don't get why it didn't keep the colors of certain things like the lips and eyes.

PC users told me you can fix that by editing your save file. But i'm on 360 so no go.

Can you give me info to fixing it. Just after your post I realized that feeling that's been in my head for 3 days: I saved Ashley! WTF is Kaidan here! Now I know...

Playing right now as Paragon, I messed up my Renegade save, so after Paragon it's ME1-2-3 time again!

uggggg! So stupid , obvious glitches have completely removed the whole point playing on the 360 from beginning to end. Great.

Yeah it sucks. I managed to get my Shepard to look almost the same by retrieving the facecode following the info posted on that website linked in the OT and here. Would have been happier if i didn't have to waste my time doing that, but hey.

I was hit by this on Day 1, it was terrible. I became really attached so if anything was wrong while I was trying to rebuild, it drove me nuts. I got it close but there's something off about him and I still haven't been able to get past it. If they release a fix, I will probably play through again after beating it just so I have the proper Shep.

My shep's eyes were the wrong color on PS3 but that's not a big deal. What the hell happened to Kelly Chambers? She looks completely different now :/

do you import your face right from the beginning or there is some sequence like Normandy crashing in ME2?

I want to make my Sheppard different, so this doesn't affect me, but it sucks for the people who were consistently using the same model the last two games...

:lol BioWare

What a stupefying oversight. I'm just about to start ME3 but I'll have to fuck around fixing the face first. How does something like this get overlooked?
