Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

Kai Leng was pretty cool to me. I didn't know much about him but it was cool to have an anti Shepard boss character. I was actually frustrated with that dude especially after he killed Thane and spoiled my mission on Thessia. It was so fulfilling to gut that guy after all that.

Ehhh, I didn't really enjoy button mashing for ten minutes while everyone gnashed their teeth and wailed in misery to sad music in the cutscenes interspersed in the scene.

It was just trying really hard to force drama it just made it all the more difficult to swallow on top of the abysmal gaming element it was pushing.

Also, wth was up with the illusive man at the end anyway? Why did he suddenly have power to control Shepard and Anderson's bodies? I thought the only way the reapers could control a being's body was through indoctrination, so how was the IM doing this?

well you see tim had reaper implants put into him so he could control his own reaper implanted cerberus troops

which does exactly fucking nothing to explain why he could control shepard and anderson

bioware writing bro

I'm in the same boat as you. I would have loved to have him fleshed out a bit more since I didn't read the books. It also would have been nice to have him introduced in ME2 as a Cerberus operative, instead of halfway through the third game.

Every time I see Kai Leng I think about LumpOfCole's comic. And that takes all dramatic tension out of the scene.

"Word, Illusive Brah."

I remember reading the cereal bit in the comic and losing it. Great stuff.

That aside, I genuinely hated this asshole..more so than Casper(!). They tried so hard to make him seem like a badass instead of the ponse he turns out to be in the game. Renegading his ass at the end felt good...

he's a space ninja named "kai leng" who wields a katana and has cyborg eyes and a ponytail and black cyber armor, who keeps acting smug even after you beat his clown face in

he is The Anime and a 13 year old's idea of a "badass" character

To me, that was one of the scenes that made me see Snake as the true soldier and hero that he really is. That guy went through hell to fulfill his mission. Like some kind of video game Jack Bauer. The microwave scene was one of the scenes that finally made me understand why people had so much respect for snake. That final fist fight with him and Revolver was awesome to me. An Illusive man, weakened Shepard ending fist fight would have been awesome. Shep fighting with everything he had left until he finally drops TIM with a devastating right hook.

Someone posted this a few pages back I just got done reading it. Fuck me if I'll remember where his post was to quote it, so I'll just repost it:

It's very good.
I had never heard of the Diablous ex machina. I didn't see how the Catalyst was a DEM, but this at least makes a bit more sense because of the Downer Ending. :lol

Was it really that long? I can't remember it anymore.

He was trying to indoctrinate them, but eh. I don't want to speculate.

That's my major problem. He's the epitome of a Poochie - a character you'd end up with after leading a focus testing group on creating a "badass" antagonist.

There was something about the game's graphics that gave off that early 2000s vibe where everyone had way too high res textures and way too high-poly models in engines that were really too old to actually support them, something you could see in the environments. Maybe the animations added to that impression.

EDIT: Uh, yeah, how did the Illusive Man control Anderson? Anderson shouldn't have any Cerberus or Reaper tech inside himself and there's no way he was indoctrinated in TIM's way in like two minutes.

It's very good.

Very succinct and on point. I disagree with there not being a Deus ex Machina device in there, but whatevs, he says a lot of right things.

True dat. He is no more than a Phantom enemy type with a couple of lines of dialogue and some scenes in which he "outsmarts you". He was only there to be killed as a boss fight and he fulfilled his role as expected, so whatever.

Kai Leng came completely out of nowhere and was never really explained. To anyone who never read the outside material, like me, his appearance was so nonsensical.

Wonder if he has a middle name. Melvin springs to mind. Kai Melvin Leng.

Kai Leng reminds me of what Raiden's retarded cyborg brother would be like.

Exactly. Not knowing anything about the character, not having seen any pictures/footage of him, I sat there and said "What the fuck is Raiden doing in Mass Effect?" when I saw him for the first time.

Kai Leng was Nightwing meets Raiden. Nothing more, nothing less. Most obvious influences/references in the entire franchise.

It's about ten if I remember.

I just don't get it, how did he do that shit, even if he was "indoctrinating" them it just doesn't make sense.

If the reapers could just take control of people entirely, why even bother with the war.

Oh and how the hell did Anderson make it onto the Citadel anyway? He was running along with Shepard and then he disappeared like the others.

Kai Leng came completely out of nowhere and was never really explained. To anyone who never read the outside material, like me, his appearance was so nonsensical.

Eh, not really. In the context of the game he makes perfect sense. Cerberus henchman with an inferiority complex.

Didnt they already reveal that cereberus found ways to indoctrinate people but they still need lots of work to do so on a reaper.

the only way kai leng could be an even more obnoxious waste of air and flesh is if he had a tragic backstory and could use dark energy chi to turn into super kai leng before riding a motorcycle and hanging out with sonic the hedgehog

Eh, not really. In the context of the game he makes perfect sense. Cerberus henchman with an inferiority complex.

Kai Leng has no build-up in-game, though. He's immediately portrayed as some critical character but you're like "wait, who the fuck is that again?"

Thankfully, while I hadn't read Deception, LumpOfCole's summary gave me what I needed to put him in context.

KAI LEAP!

Liara's character model looks damn good in this game. I like this pic:

Don't mention anything about her, uh, somewhat angular face in the above pic. She gets testy.

Say what you want about Bioware, and I'm plenty cynical about them in general, but they have some very talented artists working on the Mass Effect series.

Kai Leng looked pretty awesome too:

But he killed Thane so fuck him. :p
Agreed. To bad they don't have more talented writers.

Man this thread is approaching Spoiler Thread 2 at light speed.

Glad I decided to read this thread first before buying ME3.

Wonder if Chinner regrets his decision to not do the OT :P

Cerberus should have made a clone of shepard instead and then you would fight DARK SHEPARD.

Shep should've been a clone, for real

then he could find out he's a clone and the real body was impossible to bring back to life

then he finds a tank of clones

who all open their eyes

and stare at him

Am I the only one who feels pity for Bioware for this political shitstorm now?
They wanted speculation. They got it.

That's how I wanted MGS2 to be. But then all we got were conspiracy theories and Raiden.

He's the Darth Maul of Mass Effect. You have to read the books to find out about him.

Hey, that's the end of one of those
Resident Evil
movies...

No. They found a way to control reaper forces, they just needed a way to apply this on Reapers themselves. The soldiers all had implants that were used to control them.

I'm glad I decided to read this thread before playing ME2. I just started it when ME3 came out last week. Now I don't even care.

Not really. This has been coming for a while now. Keep treating your fanbase like shit and who knows, maybe this happens. The camel broke his back.

^ pretty much my take on it, this has been coming for a while and the ME 3 endings are just the Catalyst. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of good people at Bioware, a lot of hard workers that care about their products. However Bioware as a whole really has sod all reputation left now after this.

Am I the only one who feels pity for Bioware for this political shitstorm now?

You probably are and shouldn't be. First, because I don't think the ending backlash is that big of a deal (and shouldn't be for EA) other than it being a case study of how not to end your trilogy for future reference, and second because there is no reason to feel pity for Bioware about anything. Pity comes when you feel they are undeserving of whatever backlash they get, but Bioware has crafted a path in which they are completely deserving of whatever they get, regardless of how you feel about them. They went looking for controversy at the expense of their game and they got it. It might work out better int he end for them and it will only piss off the people that were paying attention.

I didn't mind Kai Leng at all. Was pretty nice to have an over-the-top character like him 'stalking' me and my crew. I did genuinely want to kill him for what he did to Thane though, so I appreciate an event like that instigating genuine hatred in me, haha.

However, I couldn't take him seriously because of the cereal comic.
