Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

The too many variables in the ending excuse is a cop-out. Alpha Protocol has more ending variables in one game than decisions that matter in the whole ME series.
 
Mass Effect 3 Spoilers |OT2| So it has come to this...


(I read on reddit that that phrase is appropriate in any situation where you are unsure how to react.)

If their new franchise comes out and looks great I'll just wait until it's basically finished and pick them up all out of a used bargain bin.

Unless the indoctrination theory is actually true (lol) and a quality ending is released as free DLC, and not just a YAY HAPPY ENDING ICECREAM FOR EVERYONE bullshit that trolls in this thread suggest.

So no planet on the whole galaxy is capable of self-sustenance. All the people you chose to save suddenly cease to exist because there was no epilogue showing them...

You also assume they would starve. Ships usually have supplies, we don't know if they could manufacture more or not (a point I raised days ago and was just ignored). The quarians certainly could.
 
The problem with this kind of game not having an epilogue going through your decisions in the whole trilogy is that it makes the whole trilogy irrelevant....

i mean there are better shooters.
and better rpgs than masseffect.

the whole point of the franchise is that you make your own decisions and shape the game.
some decisions matter while you are playing the trilogy (losing some team members for example) but alot of choices and important ones are just cosmetic and nothing more.

but also none matters in the ending. so why should i replay it again? u wont get an ending like falout 3 going over planets and areas and telling me how they were shaped.
(if you didn't finished fallout2 i will understand that someone can consider mass effect and its "ending" a masterpiece).

playing a trilogy of games that take hours to finish and are supposedly decisions heavy,if you don't provide a satisfactory closure its a fail.

im not saying happy ending. a closure.because even replaying the trilogy to see a horrible ending that goes around the galaxy and shows how screwed everyone is,will be more satisfying than finishing a trilogy you could have wasted 300 hours in ending it in 3 minutes!!!!!!!!111! killezone 2 might have a longer ending ffs!

I can waste hours replaying mass effect trilogy only to have a different face,use different team members and if i play multilayer in me3 Shepard lives in a 2 sec clip.

lives or dies to what state of the galaxy? what i have achieved?who is happy or sad? who is free on their planet and who not?
what race achieved their objectives and who failed in this massive war?
what changed from this war? what planet does the Normandy crass lands?
or did it go back in prehistoric times???

lol,bioware. lots of good new games lots of classic games. you failed to touch greatness.
you just have a cool space adventure named mass effect. but nothing more...

not giving fullness and satisfaction leaves a bad-taste that even in the best-case-scenario will permanently create a rift between fans (and ex-fans) of why someone should bother playing 3 mass effect games in,lets say 5 years,thus making this trilogy just a passing summer blockbuster and not a movie that can stand the test of time....

wont recommend.whoever was fooled by bioware was fooled. the uniqueness of massefect doesn't exist,its just marketing.
you can shoot aliens in other games way better......

You have all the races in the universe on Earth's doorstep, and you're asking if they can self sustain off of that galaxy? If everyone in the world started living in your house, would you be able to self sustain?

It was a shitty ending, and nothing was explained.

Given the evidence we're given, it would seem they are left stranded to starve to death.

Do you write for Bioware?

The Quarian population is around 17 million. Nevermind that being a mi-grant fleet it is explained they often dock in planetary systems and buy resources from them, including but not limited to other ships. Earth's population is in the billions, plus there is the issue of millions of other beings from every other species with different needs and reproductive cycles stranded in their own ships around/or in Earth, including Rachni. Even then, Turians and Quarians do not eat the same kind of food as humans or Asari because it is poisonous to them and the other way around.

But at this point I am just nitpicking what are not very obvious plot holes, so I'll leave it at that.

You'd still have the major parts of the ending kept in cinematic form, as the case was with games like Jade Empire. If people seriously get angry that the full consequences of their many variables are only represented in text summaries then fuck them, it's clearly that or nothing at all.

EDIT: Well, there is the angle of a quick narration, but it's still the same basic point: I can't reasonably expect video clips for what happened if there's too many potential variables, but you could still handle them with a summarization of some sort.

ok,so we should IMAGINE the ending??

why buy the game and not imagine a better one instead?
 
It should have been clear with ME2 that the story is completely predefined. Most of your choices only affect the way in which your character responds to them.

It's like people didn't learn.

If all you cared about was the story, might as well just watch it on youtube.
 
Cutscenes for squad members and other major characters would have been sufficient as an epilogue. Text for minor characters.

Or old Shepard flying around the galaxy 60 years later, visiting old friends or something like that.

It's not that the story was predefined, it's that the ending was shit.

The fact that your choices don't matter just highlight the shit ending even more.

Which colour would you like your shit ending in? Red, green or blue?

Except for games like Bioware's half the fun is the feeling of directing it to some extent, giving our own personal touch. I can't reasonably expect full control, not with this presentation level, but ENOUGH that I can feel the effects. Honestly, it actually does a good job more often than not outside of the big stuff there.

Obsidian did it.Fallout 3's slide show was super lazy.

A New Vegas like slideshow for Mass Effect would make me so happy but it's not possible since I doubt they will call back all the voice actors now.

All RPGs should have a fallout ending slideshow!

The story isn't completely predefined...at all.

You're going on a suicide mission. That's more or less the only fixed thing. If you don't make the right choices and prepare properly, you'll encounter heavy losses.

Yes, because watching your crew live or die in an epic last mission depending on the choices you made, then seeing them preparing for a future invasion at the end is the same as some star child making you pick between three different colored explosions (that don't relate to anything you decided throughout the rest of the game, or series), and a fraction of your friends being in a meadow on some unkown planet.

A Fallout style narration with a piece of concept art being displayed would've been just fine. Have Liara narrate it since she had been keeping score of your heroics. Had they done that, the backlash wouldn't have been nearly this huge.

We'd still have the goddamn space magic, but at least we wouldn't have LOTS OF SPECULATION

i'm wondering who will be crazy enough in 5-10 years to recommend to players that didn't play mass effect,to waste hours of their lives in 3games to achieve nothing and see an ending shorter than in a typical shooter......

in 5 years the gfx will be dated(me1 already looks a bit dated)and you should either play that-gen games,or real classics,but not m.e.

I thought the fallout slide shows were AWFUL and even those put the ME3 ending to shame.

I would have been happy if we got something like a Zelda ending with the camera panning across the now reaper-free worlds as the credits roll, but maybe that just takes too many "variables".
