Just finished the game.

Fuck everything about Bioware.

God, and to think I looked up to these smug assholes for being the forefront of video game storytelling. This has to be one of the douchiest moves I've ever seen in the video game industry. Hell, fucking Bobby Kotick doesn't even have anything on these clowns.

God fucking dammit.

It's cool, but still it's horrible to think that paid DLC would be the only way to get the true ending to the game. They're kinda doomed if they do, doomed if they don't.

The only way the get out of this unscathed is to release it for free.

Assuming it actually will happen.

Tell us how you really feel.

Reading the leaked script, I think it's for the best that Javik didn't end up becoming the catalyst. The VI was quick to mention that it was the combined efforts of races from all cycles, and a prothean being the missing piece would kind of cheapen it for me.
I have not read the leaked script, but I agree with your assessment.

It's why I have a hard time destroying the Reapers if a viable alternative is available. They're evil robot space urns. We just need to get rid of the evil robot part.

except, if they do, the game is fixed for the future, and if they don't the game is broken forever.

Just like blade runner, people are glad that we got the better ending in the end.

SO FUCKING STUPID.
They knock him down, him still being alive, walk a few feet away from him & THEN PROCEED TO COMPLETELY IGNORE THE ASSASSIN SENT TO KILL THEM WITH ALL THEIR BACKS TO HIM!
Too busy looking at the walls & ceiling to be sure if he is dead or not.

I honestly think they all knew he was getting up and wasn't dead. Shep just wanted to kill him in a badass way. I mean it's just Kai Leng. What can he really do? There was no cereal to eat, no vases to piss in and not a toothbrush around to kill anyone with. He's fucking harmless.

Exactly, Shepard knew he was behind him all along. That's what made it badass.

"I know you are here.... turn around - Stab!"

Anywho, I need to go to bed. Good night folks, it's been fun!

Shepard would make a fitting Reaper name.
Well, after s/he controls them, I guess we could call them "Shepards."

Beautiful.

Alcohol numbs the pain, but the pain's still there underneath :(

Edit: Does anyone want to pair a few items for new people to the thread?

Like reasons people are dissatisfied by the end, the comic with the Garrus pillow, the ABC image, the color choice image, etc?

Like a one-stop shop of we're here for you.

Just finished a few hours ago. Almost 200 pages so there's not a whole lot to add that hasn't been said. I was very disappointed, but not angry per say. It just seemed so unnecessary and frivolous to end it like that. As boring and cliched as it would be, I would have preferred the reapers to remain as enigmatic as they were in the first game, and simply have it end with you and Anderson activating the "Plot Device" and watching the reapers be destroyed during your final chat, with some voice-over describing the possible future trend of the galaxy based on your choices ala Human Revolution.

Obviously they didn't have a overarching plan despite what they said after releasing ME 1, but this seemed sloppy even granting them that difficulty. It was bad enough to get the enormous deus ex machina with the Crucible, but then they upped the ante by adding in a villain behind the villain with the star-child-ghost-AI, which I think everyone can agree was a bad decision made worse by how little effort they put into integrating it.

Others have said it, but they're got good writers and it's not a bad game. The problem is that they seem to spend all their energy on the side-plots and the over-arching narrative really suffers, a similar problem with ME 2. It's like a good meal that makes you feel ill after eating. It may have tasted great at the time, but the after-effects can sour you on the whole experience. I still need to let it settle in for a while before I come to final consensus.

For those saying that the tweets are all PR bs, take a look at these:

The winking, certainly doesn't help...

Most of that just seems like 'well what do you think? *wink*' They just want people to keep talking about the ending. They can't just say 'Nope, that happened and that is what you have' because that'd shut people up pretty fast.

Kai Leng was the first time I subconsciously hit the renegade trigger before I even realized there was a prompt on the screen. Video games are totally rad.
I did it with Udina.

"GUN!" *blam*

Oh, there was a prompt? It's fun to realize that yup, you totally just did a QTE without even knowing it was there and having no particular reason to click the mouse button at that point anyway. Spectre reflexes, basically. Idiot points gun at Council, idiot gets shot.

Everything has probably been said already, but I just need to rant after finishing the game.

I've always loved the character and side story stuff in ME2 and ME3 much, much more than the big main story. I loved drunk Tali, I enjoyed seeing Miranda grow up from a cold-hearted Cerberus bitch to a... more sympathetic human being and I smiled every time Legion said "Shepard-Commander". I was fine with the ME2 ending. Even ME3 was great and moving until the last 5 minutes, setting up for an incredible adventure ending with Shepard strutting off into the sunset with Garrus (that's my story and I'm sticking with it).

What happened instead was that the writers holed up in somebody's basement and watched the entirety of Lost, Galactica and Evangelion in one sitting while reading up on postmodernism. Then they wrote an ending where you talk with the deus ex ancient race machina who happens to look like a kid because YAY SYMBOLISM and Shepard presses one of the conveniently located magic reset buttons that send out a fucking magic space beam that does one of the things that all suck in some ways and effectively destroys the Mass Effect universe by trashing the relays. And for good measure, while you're reeling from the shock, let's throw up a note saying OH HEY SPACE JESUS AND THE UNIVERSE ARE NO MORE BUT WHY DON'T YOU BUY SOME DLC TO SEE MORE OF IT LOL.

What. The. Fuck.

The tragic thing - well, one of them - is that if they had gone with the traditional Ewoks and fireworks ending, the resulting post-war galaxy would have been _perfect_ material for new stories. Billions or trillions dead, rebuilding planets and cities, chaos, drama, hope, space opera, fun; all thrown out the window because of new-age Adam and EDI bullshit. Right now I don't even feel like replaying the story with my other characters because nothing matters. I'd have to hit the brain bleach to erase the last five minutes from my mind first.

You may want to read the indoctrination theory before resorting to bleach.

I'd think people would be more disappointed at the lack of a final boss battle

The last fight on Earth did take me a few tries but thats it, no last showdown with a reaper or TIM actually fighting you =/

I had the same issue with
Batman AC......the final fight was mind boggling, I was expecting a bigger one after

Honestly that's what surprised me the most about the ending. I immediately thought, why on earth would they do this? It makes it extremely difficult to do more games in the universe unless they want to go back in time to say, the First Contact War, Krogan Rebellions, or the Rachni War (which could be very interesting as well). Perhaps it's a result of wrapping up the Genophage and Geth/Quarian conflict too neatly, and not being able to make a game about those post-war tensions if players have widely different outcomes.

To your second point, this may be the first game I don't replay with my renegade character, as the overall feel and moment-to-moment differences aren't compelling enough to draw me back in. I did it for the past two games because of the attraction of ending up with two widely different post-galactic scenarios, even if it was just conveyed in a Human Revolution voiceover or Dragon Age text screen.

It'll be really interesting to see if/how they handle this.

I'm sure they will. While I obviously don't agree with it, and like everyone else am upset with the ending, they clearly aren't planning on leaving it like that. Besides the kinds of things they were saying in those tweets and stuff, if you think about it it makes sense that they'd set up their future DLC this way. I mean, I know myself that I would buy a lot more DLC if it wasn't always just filler.

Let's look at a couple pieces of DLC from ME2. With Overlord, it was complete fluff. Total definition of filler. Nothing to really do with the main story, just a $10 side quest. With Shadow Broker/Arrival, they had more to do with the main story, but still felt filler-y, didn't really have a significant impact on the story. I mean, they DO tell some part of the story, with Liara taking over as Broker and the Batarians getting almost entirely wiped out and why Shepard being discharged at the start of ME3. But they were still just details of the story, not big epic chapters. I don't know how well the ME2 DLC sold, but I would imagine if the ME3 DLC is more focused on continuing the story or the ending, it would sell better.

If what they say about From Ashes is true and it IS just a DLC, but a DLC with real story significance, then maybe that's the kind of DLC we have to look forward to with ME3 and the ending of the game has an effect on those plans. Maybe they didn't wanna just wrap everything up neatly like Gears of War 3 did so that they have the chance to make continuing chapters. It would be a good opportunity to retcon the shitty ending they gave us in the game.

I'm trying to hope that the ending of ME3 wasn't actually the ending of ME3. The ending of the last piece of ME3 DLC will be the ending of ME3, and they're going to continue the story in smaller episodes for a while. If I'm going to have to keep paying then so be it, but just don't end it like that. plzzzzz.

The indoctrination theory is dumb.

Not that it has no basis, and not that Bioware won't eventually use it, but it's just something fans came up with to make the ending hurt less.

It is the video game fan equivalent of "No, my significant other wasn't seeing someone else, she legitimately broke up with me because of physical distance, it wasn't something wrong with either of us!"

What we saw is what we got. Even if Bioware adds on or changes or whatever, this is forever the canon ending of ME3.

It doesn't help.

All it proves is that instead of Bioware being a bunch of incompetent clowns, they're now either post-modernist artsy cunts, or greedy money grabbing cunts.

Whatever the option, it's all shitty, much like their ending.

Yup. I was just waiting for him to pull a gun or something. As soon as the prompt showed up he was dead.

lol BW aren't talented enough programmers for subtle things like that. I'm pretty sure 70% of the 'facts' are a mix of lousy coding/cutting corners/reusing assets/ and the goofiness of Unreal 3.
