That's the thing. How can they talk about "definitive and satisfying endings" in the PR knowing that the decision was made to go for ambiguous and "speculations" endings.

Just liked they talked about 16 different endings and not having A,B, or C end-game choices. PR speak.

Bioware/EA's priorities in this game was to sell it to a very wide audience. Why's why James was introduced, that's why a lot of the story elements weren't as deep as they should've been. The 18 month development time didn't help either. It also explains why multiplayer was added. No one of serie's fans would've mind at all if multiplayer wasn't included, but when you're trying to sell to a wider audience, you have to include that feature to get more of them to buy in. That time and budget spent on multiplayer development could've helped improved more of the singleplayer game. It probably wouldn't have garnered more total profit, but it would've made it a better game.

Right, and most of these issues are subjective. Some people like the multiplayer and have no problem with it, and regardless of the state it ended up in, plenty of fans absolutely loved Mass Effect 3 right up until the last five minutes. If we were talking about a clearly rushed, incomplete and fumbled product like Dragon Age 2 then we'd have a fair case, but we do not. Some people feel that way but it is not a unanimously agreed opinion among the entire fan base.

You even see it here, plenty of people (I'd even say most) thoroughly enjoying the game up until that point, including people who were unimpressed with ME1. Most of this backlash boils down to the ending which I'm not going to blame EA for, when it is a writing problem at BioWare.

Yes, thank the goddess for that. Mac Walters & Co. would probably think an escapist rationalization of a shitty ending is the same as "speculation", and thus thought he was digital gaming's James Joyce thanks to the Indoctrination theory.
 
Figured the dark energy issue was the actual reason (particularly after Tali's mission in ME2). Too much rampant use of ME fields etc. Space pollution.

Regarding: Dark Energy

Link a page or so back indicates the Human Reaper was really just a humans are special kind of thing. Like we can't beat the dark energy, but somehow human genetic diversity when ground up into a fine paste and pressed into a shiny reaper ship will find the answer.

To me it seems like you know, the genetic diversity of an entire race of billions, all working on a problem, combined with the diversity of all other alien races would be a better way to tackle that problem, but what the fuck do I know.

Maybe if humanity became a "sovereign" of connected programs like the Geth that processing power might find an answer to the problem?

Reapers destroy species capable of galactic travel stopping galactic travel giving the universe time to restore damage until next cycle.

Would have been fine with that ending.
 
First off a question: What were the endings like in the leaked script

2nd: Just loving the hate and speculation around the ending. Read the "Indoctrination Theory" which seems like complete bollocks to me because it's simply unnecessary, if Shepard is really lying under a bunch of rubble in London. Why trick him with a "Savior Dream" if he's as good as dead anyway?

I wonder why the lack of choice bothered so many in the ending. What should be more bothering is the lack of repercussions in the game. Played Paragon all the way, let the scum of the universe run away and spared every life with the line "He's not worth it.."
Repercussions: None. Not a single "good" decision bites one in the ass. Yeah the rewritten Geth joined the Reaper, but that could be rectified by a single mission in which I couldn't even die (wonder why nobody posted anything about the ridiculous "Enter the Server-Matrix" mission). And that giant human reaper baby in ME 2 ... still shaking my head about that one. For me Mass Effect 1 had the only consistent story with a real villain a greater threat behind that villian and a great ending that still left room for a sequel without leaving a bad taste in your mouth.

It's not the ending that's a mess, it's the whole story.

They seem to genuinely believe their apparent speculation encouraging ending is what fans would like, and the perfect note for the series to end on in order for it to be memorable in a good way.

Yeah, this is not a case of EA ruining Bioware, Its just Bioware messing up badly. Damaging your brand does not make good business sense. If the indoc stuff had turned out to be true I could have maybe believed it was EA trying to gauge more money with "real ending" DLC, but not anymore.

Anyway, check out this video. It is true, but funny because of how sad it was made by someone who apparently had Tali as a romance, lol. But it does have a great shot of the shop job on the stock photo and compares it with some of the many fan pieces we have seen. I have watched it a few times just to laugh at the fact they actually resorted to this.

ROFL @ photoshopping out two fingers. Didn't even notice that in the game, though I wasn't really looking at it too carefully. Was too busy laughing my ass off.

I also found it odd that you get this nice moment with Liara at the end regardless of whether or not you romanced her in ME3 (unless it was due to romancing her in ME1), but nothing much with Tali if that was your romantic partner in 3. Not to mention that Liara appears in your memories when you make the final choice, though no Tali.

Yep. I was "bleh"ing the rewrite "due to the leak" and what we got. They should have stuck to their guns. How many people would have seen the leak anyway. I should have made that clear. :p
