Excuse me while I go throw up.

Absolutely gutwrenching

Catholics and Christians are a very priveleged group in the US. If a hardcore Christian extremist blows up something, nobody is going to beat up christians in the next day, nobody is going to campain to ban christians.

Except they're being persecuted and are having their rights taken away.

It's less about them getting money from the NRA and more about the NRA using their money to make sure people who support them get elected.

Agreed. The NRA uses more of their money to scare politicians to fall in line then they spend in campaign donations

This is related to Islam in the same way that abortion clinic shooters are related to Christianity.

They're fringe radicals who take their religion way too fucking seriously and use it as motivation for violence. They're also difficult for the much larger, moderate community to detect and weed out.

I think most of these extremists are crazy people who aren't religious at all. They are using random religious passages as their excuse to lash out in a world they are too broken to understand or function properly in. The religious texts they rely on for damn sure don't help, but these people don't believe in anything but their own anger and frustration as seen through their own insane mental lenses.

I couldn't help but cry when I heard the news this morning. As an ex-Muslim gay guy I feel so torn about this. When the death toll climbed to 50 and when it was revealed that the shooter was Muslim I sank to a new level of depression.

Eerie to think I was in Orlando a few months ago. RIP and my thoughts to all the victims :( I don't think this an event and date I'll ever forget.

This whataboutism is shitty
Both radical Islamists and Radical Christians are equally terrible.

It's just plain idiocy. Every fucking time people are like: "it's written in the Quran that blablabla." or "religion of peace my ass" or other stupid comments.

These extremists ARE backwards. They interpret some things LITERALLY - which you shouldn't do because you're following rules made thousands of years ago.

If Christians still followed the Bible so closely we would still have crusades for fucks sake.

On a comical note, NBC is going off the hinges right now. They just kicked NBC reporter Pete Williams off the air who said he thought June was gay pride month, or maybe this week, or "whatever." The anchor pulled the camera and went to some other talking head.

Had ISIS existed when the Columbine shootings happened, I have no doubt those two kids would have pledged allegiance beforehand too. I think it was probably just a convenient, "cool", thing to do.

Yeah I'd be surprised if he was actually directed by them

My Mother knows exactly what it says in the Holy Quran and the Hadiths about homosexuality... In end of it all, who are we judge them and to kill them for who they are. Why commit a crime that is equal to killing the whole humanity.

Let God judge them and for us to live in peace. Who am I do anything like that.

My Mother's motto to not to judge anyone nor be say anything bad about anyone as we here on Earth to live in peace. If someone does bad to you then you do good to them and make them realize that they have done bad.
You don't have to justify yourself to that poster.

This attack was perpetrated by a radical extremists, whose interpretation of the faith enabled him to walk down this path. Nothing more, nothing less.

Regular Muslims such as yourself and your mother share no blame over this incident.

No,
No.
They were trying to show that people are bullying Muslims whereas similar text is found in other religions, which many bigots forget.

What can I do aside from condemning these actions... I even posted a link to a Toronto mosque that is open to LBGTQ community.

I know hypocritical bigots will point to muslims condemning this shit while doing the exact same thing. My point is every religion has its #notallofus yet when it comes to actually making the changes it becomes like crickets in the room.

If it wasn't so tragic it would be hilarious how each of the proponents of these problems all throw up their hands saying "we can't do anything about our issues so don't look at us" and then point their fingers at others.

This religion inspired anti-LBGT man got guns legally and killed 50 people. How about we do something about ALL of these issues that lead to this in respect of the 50 dead people. Lets not hide any of these points, lets not get defensive about these points or sweep them under the rug. Lets discuss this shit as a country and come up with some answers. Can we at least do that for them?

I'm imagining a world with all religions banned. Give me a minute.

Okay, now i'm not talking about banning religions, i'm talking about those that are part of congregations always throwing their hands up saying they can't do anything about their beliefs or religion. It's bullshit absolution and emboldens others to keep doing what they do in the name of their religion. Religion is a CHOICE, and if you choose to stay a part of that religion and do nothing about the bullshit beliefs that harm others then you are implicit. All religions need to start doing something about this backwards shit thinking and we need to stop pandering it in all instances. This is no different than trying to say fiscal Republicans are not responsible for the horrible social and civil laws being championed by the GOP even though they never speak up against them and still cast their vote for it.

Highly unlikely. The law enforcement already said they don't think it is and that it was two lone gunmen types.

I mean, obviously we ought to wait for the facts. But c'mon. Two people decide to carry out major attacks on gay events within 24 hours and it's unrelated lone gunmen?

Absolutely disgusting what happened in Orlando and in California (thankfully that fucker was stopped). Hoping those that got hurt survive. I can't believe people like this exist.

Agreed. The NRA uses more of their money to scare politicians to fall in line then they spend in campaign donations

The NRA is the lobbying arm for gun manufactures. I really wish that would get through some people's thick skulls.

They don't represent the average gun owner (they may have at one time). They only currently exist to ensure companies like Smith and Wesson and Colt have their say in the government.

This is my thought as well, but it's not gonna hold up unfortunately. Not gonna stop the millions of headlines about radical Islamic terrorism for the next few weeks.

The guy wasn't religious before though, so ISIS or not I'm still hardcore judging and disgusted by everyone who's twisting this into some sort of "all Muslims are bad" message.

Nah, they're religious. It's just that religion occupies a special spot in their brain, the crazy area, that it doesn't in everyone else.

Great post.

They weren't related according to police.

I could buy that, I think they probably weren't related, but it's still early going so the story can still change.

I'd like to know if either of these incidents are ISIS or just ISIS-inspired, as most of these events in the US seem to be so far.

I can almost understand ISIS agents operating and committing acts of terror, they have financial resources, strong political ties, an unshakable ideology, etc. It's the people who are ISIS fans, who just absorb this stuff through the media and commit copycat crimes that boggle my mind. People that run off on a whim to Syria to "join," without any real connection to ISIS are nuts too.

Why do you keep twisting my words. I never said lock away forever ffs. I'm just saying for now. Events like this build lots of tension. I would tell Muslims in America to be careful too for now since they're going to be blamed.

There's a difference between telling people to be careful and telling people to just stay inside. You know, for their own good.

I trust you mean well, but I also don't think you exactly understand the rather hurtful implications of what you're saying. That we should just hide for a little while and hope this will blow over- because that's exactly the way it won't.

It's laughable to even imply that any two-bit criminal in western Europe is able to get their hands on black market firearms. Because they aren't.

I think Americans who say "he would just get a gun illegally" have no idea what that means.

Like, I have like never even seen a gun in person I don't even know how to get one if I wanted to.

Very interested in learning more details about the gunman and what exactly he used. I'm seeing some kind of automatic rifle and a pistol.

It was an AR-15 with military grade ammo along with a pistol. CNN was talking about the type of ammo earlier this morning and it's the sort of thing that shouldn't even be available to the general public.

Good for all of you who apparently never had a bad experience with conservative religious people who read their holy texts rigorously and seriously. You probably never had violent arguments or family breakups just for being the way you are and could live peacefully instead.

Please don't assume that this is true for everyone else just because you have a positive anecdote to share.

QFT.
No True Scotsman runs amok.
