WOW to think I this weekend with the flu sucked but this damn
The weather in Perth was crazy today one of the hottest days in our semi arid summer then it started to hale!Trevelyon said:Damn! I feel a little guilty, that I spent half my day down at Cottesloe, swimming in the ocean that took 20,000 + lives in one foul swoop.
But, fuck... it was hot today. :/

Trevelyon said:That storm that brewed up around 9pm was crazy! Absolutely the loudest thunder I've ever heard in my life. My whole house shook, like we were in a very mild earthquake, and yeh the downpour was bizarre, I mean... when was the last time that much rain fell on Perth in the last week of December?
I think God is seriously pissed at this region of the world, atm.
Do The Mario said:BTW do you go night clubbing? WTF was up with all the deros out and about last night!
Trevelyon said:What, in Northbridge? Wasn't in the city over the weekend. I was at the Post Office a few Saturdays ago, didn't notice any dero types, just the usual drab, 20-something crowd.

That's very generous of you. The IFRC is currently appealing for assistance.Timbuktu said:Is anyone going to give to help those in the disaster? I want to give the money I got for my birthday, but to whom? Red Cross? Oxfam? Unicef?
btw Jet Li was there, but he only suffered minor injuries to his left leg.

Instead of spending billions on research for improved warning systems, infrastructure and socio-economic conditions (the lack of which lead to such vast losses of life) the money is continuously pissed away into methods to kill and maim others, never-ending propaganda on the 'great and evil terrorist threat' and imperialist adventures to the detriment of many. I don't want to turn this into a political discussion, but rather point out how plainly fucked the world and many in it really appear in situations like these.
I was actually curious how religious the region would be (obviously fluctuating - no culture is entirely similar). This has been so devastating, I'd hate for so many people to amount it to 'God'. As if they did something wrong. Fact is, people in areas like that often live richer lives than anyone in North America, imo.Che said:23,000 people dead. There is no god damnit.
23,000 is confirmed deaths, I think. Many cities/towns haven't given a record yet (like in Indonesia), and lots of bodies were washed out into the ocean when the water receded.CVXFREAK said:42,000?!?!?!?!?!?

it is worth posting in this thread just to quote this gem.xabre said:Within the past ten years we've had Turkish and Iranian earthquakes each killing over 20,000 people and now these tsunamis with an insane amount of casualties. I'm fairly certain man could kill more than 250,000 with a press of a button, so no.tedtropy said:You really have to respect the kind of power the earth is capable of. No matter how powerful man himself may become, it is nothing compared to the wrath this planet is capable of releasing upon us.
