Armchair politics, who would be in line to replace Ed/Clegg? Any contenders of note?

So if I'm reading this correctly (I'll be honest; I'm a complete idiot when it comes to politics) it's looking like the Tories have the most seats so have technically "won" the election by virtue of mathematics but because they failed to reach a majority they're forced to form a coalition again to get anything done in Parliament? So basically like last time then? Also you can tell I know nothing but I was telling my Sister last week that Labour were destined to win due to all of the anti-Conservative sentiment I've been seeing over the last few years. My God by the looks of it I couldn't have been more wrong lol. So am I anywhere near correct in my prognosis?

Could someone who knows more explain the situation? It'd be appreciated.

1) The results have just started coming, they haven't won those are just exit polls.
2) Yes that's how coalition works because you need a majority in the parliament because to have some sort of security that a bill gets passed they can form a minority government but it could be difficult in UK.

A second election is probably even better news for the Tories - only party who can afford it.

I think Cons might even win a majority here. Just.

Labour showing no swing at all really.

Battersea:

Tory: 26?30
UKIP: 1586
Labour: 18,792
Green: 1682
Lib Dem: 2241

Lib Dems swinging down 10%.

1.7% swing from Lab to Tory.

Yep Battersea is a swing from Labour to the Tories.

No movement in London at all.

I think a majority is on here.

I don't think they can manage it.

On BBC Scotland, Tory talking head talking so much bollocks about Labour voters switching to SNP, how "no" Labour voters are switching just because they don't think it matters etc etc etc. Total horseshit.

Omg I thin Battersea confirms the exit poll maybe right.

Oooof. It's looking like that isn't it.

My main thought now is that Lib Dems, if they go with the Tories again, they really are even dumber than I thought. They might as well shut down the party entirely.

Jeez louise. Anyone simply blaming Scotland for Labour losing can rethink that. What's going on with you English wanting conservatives back in?!

Heard a few people in the north in the last few days who went for the view of they don't like Labour, and want to give the Conservatives more time to get it right. That economy message must really have sunk in deep, and a front page on the manifesto can't fight five years worth of opinion.

this is fucking terrible for labour. what on earth happened.

Labour increased their vote, that 10% lost from Lib Dems looks to have mostly gone to the tories. Though I still don't understand that. Would be interesting to see the churn amongst voters.

This is turning into a general collapse of the UK left. Embarrassing.

You know what... Scotland, just leave. There's no saving us. And there's no saving the union.

There's something wrong with England.
