i would prefer playstation plus to use my money for that than game of the gen i don't choose....at least it would be thing i have chosen at a time and would replay over something not interesting me i will never launch
What? How does your point still stand? This is literally you saying "well I was proven wrong but regardless sony is doing it and I ignore that microsoft is".
Yes. I tried several of the BC games on my Xbox One ysterday. They were just as crappy playing them on my Xbox One as they were on my 360.
Now of course at the time I enjoyed them on my 360. But that was years ago and I've nw moved on to current gen.
I enjoyed playing pong and other games in 1975 on our Magnavox system when I was nine years old. But I have no desire to go back and play them again. The same goes for enjoying my Atari 2600 games in the 70's and my Nintendo games in the 80's and 90's. Or my PC online multi-player games of the late 90's and early 2000's.. I enjoyed them at the time but I have no serious interest in going back and playing them again.
Except they (MS) said that they don't need to make any changes to the individual games. I mean, maybe they do and there is more to it going forward... but as it looks right now, it is full emulated BC and thus far is working perfectly for the games they have available in the preview.
I don't know about anyone else, but I bought a shitload of digital content last-gen that I want access to beings it is tied to the same account I am using on the next-gen systems. Being able to have access to many of those 360 games on the Xbox One, plus my disk games IS a big deal.
This is exactly why I'm so happy to have BC this gen at last. I have a huge digital library on 360, especially XBLA games!
They're handling Xbox 360 emulation differently compared to the original Xbox emulation too, and the results appear to be better all round.
I'm also liking the 360 game freebies on the way (Fallout 3 and Vegas 1+2 with the new iterations of those franchises) and I hope that continues, plus it could make Games With Gold on 360 more worthwhile now too if you will be able to play them on either console.
When all is considered this is a pretty awesome addition from MS, and it would be cool if Sony did it too.

Jesus. This reply sounds like something you would have heard out of Xbox at the beginning of the gen. If the current situation was reversed and MS made this comment people would be slaughtering them.
If backwards compatability is under used why did they invest in gaikai and create ps now???
PSNow is a long term strategy. You know who gamers love whining how companies only care about short term profits? Well Sony is betting that in the long run the internet infrastructure will improve, just like how it did enough for Netflix to become the powerhouse it is now.
Your comments also shows why companies usually focus on short term growth, investors, just like you don't have imagination or the patience.
Short term is easy to see, while long term takes patience.
Sony so dumb how can you have a backwards compatibility service like ps now on ps3 that's just a compatibility service now why would I pay to play ps3 games on my ps3 when I can pay to play them on my ps3
They are too deep into PS Now for that and I highly doubt Sony has the software expertise to make CELL tech work in VM or recompiling into PS4 format, Microsoft definitely has the edge on that department.
He is right on one thing MS has a complicated task on their hands, it's one thing to have BC via Hardware,it's another to have BC on Software like MS did.
MS is giving an empty promise because people will not be able to play all their 360 games because publishers have to give permission or else it won't be on the store. Also you have to download the 360 games which means less space for your XBO games :/
Can someone throw down some reasons why BC is such a huge issue? There are so many games for current-gen consoles that I just don't feel this overwhelming urge to play something from last-gen that so many people seem to. I applaud MS for being able to work it into it's console, and following the announcement I was really excited for the possibilities, but after I thought about it I realized that honestly I don't care that much. For that rare occasion that I feel like spending some time with an old game I'll blow the dust off my old console and play, realistically speaking (at least on the Sony consoles not sure off the top of my head about MS) all the cables are the same and it's not that much hassle to just swap out the box. I also don't understand the mentality of stating that: "Because I can't play my old games I have no reason to buy the new console" In that case why is the new console even relevant? Wouldn't you just be dropping 350+ for no reason if the new hardware/software doesn't interest you enough to buy it on its own? After all if you're just playing PS3 games on a PS4 it makes way more sense to just keep the PS3
sidenote: I understand that it's possible that you may not have the funds to own both last-gen and current-gen consoles, but in that case you're not being entirely left out of the loop. There's plenty of current-gen games that have also been released on last-gen, and if it takes some time to save up for a next-gen console that you can't play old games on then that's just the way it is and you've gotta decide which you want more. Not really one company slighting you as a consumer by not supporting hardware that's quickly becoming outdated.
Sorry for the diatribe I'm bored while rendering at work
Enthusiasts like the folks to frequent neogaf usually have lots of games and like to play old ones so we have a outlier valuation on BC. It's very useful for enthusiasts and we value it a lot. However the mainstream generally doesn't care after the first few months.
I think MSs an is really a nice move, but I mirror the response in that I just don't think a percentage of gamers worth chasing will be playing old console games on new consoles.
I think it's wise to start offering as much from your library as possible if both consoles are moving towards a digital, Steam-esque ecosystem. It'll provide another incentive for people to go digital, since they'd have everything on one system.

A lot of their new customers are former 360 owners who never owned those games. It's why their strategy is different; their market position is different.

Bolded are the games I have already downloaded. I have a few more (and some on disc) to try still.
I sold my Xbox 360 and I owned over 50 digital games. It was a big risk for me but I did it.
You may not sell the console they were attached to but other people would to you know pay for the Xbox One or PS4. For some people it is a one or the other situation where they can't keep both consoles due to financial reasons.
Also of course there is no guarantee that all your games will work but there's still the off-chance you never know.
yeah he would probably say something like this '' PSnow is much bigger then BC on one console, with PSnow we can bring amazing sony titles to many people''
I kind of agree with the statement that people dont use BC though, when the PS3/360 were announced the ps3 having BC was a big draw to me, however when you have games a generation ahead, the old games just seem old and I dont want to play on them. However I'am sure there people who do.

For a cheap price yes but it takes away from people buying full price games.
I have a Vita and bought Suikoden I and Suikoden 2 for 9.99 and I have yet to buy Tales of Hearts and Freedom Wars which were 30 each. They would have made more money off the newer titles.
I have moved on and I have not played a PS3 game in nearly a year and with all the games coming out I won't be able to get near my PS3 game for another year.
Though I generally agree with the statement that not that many people actually use BC (I sure didn't), I will say the one difference between last gen's BC, and this gen having BC is: Digital Titles. There really aren't that many retail disc games I feel like going back to, but moving on to this gen I was kind of bummed that all my XBLA and PSN games were going to be left behind which was not something we had to contend with moving in to the 360/PS3 age. There are a decent amount of those that are just the right size where I could see myself firing them up again every once in a while. Having access to those games (like Geometry Wars, or Castle Crashers, or Uno Rush) are what I'm mostly looking forward to.
Personally I could care less about BC. Every one of my friends I game with don't care either. I know many people do care though. I just don't get it myself.
imma just say, as soon as Last Oddessy and Blue Dragon hits the BC list (already confirmed), im gonna make a mancave in my house for Jrpg classic goodness and kiss my social life goodbye.
Real BC would be awesome too. The fact that an upscaled Red Dead Redemption is leading the voting for the next big game for them to get BC....that's awesome.
I see nothing but positives with this.
I figure Cell ruins any chance of PS3 ---> PS4 BC.

Never understood why people said the original Xbox emulation on 360 was buggy/bad. I never had problems with it. Played Halo 2, GTA III, San Andreas, Vice City, All of the Tony Hawk games and Rainbow Six and more and never had problems with any of those games. They ran like a charm, only game that gave me some problems was Jet Set Radio Future because that game had huge framerate drops but it still had those problems even if you played on a original Xbox so I blame the game more for that one.
I think Xbox 360 emulation will be fine. From the games I've played on there it works fine with no problems really. It's crazy how Microsoft pulled it off.
