Not exactly. Plenty of games on PC need to be ported to modern PC's, and a bunch of old, good stuff is getting left by the wayside, as nobody's put in the legwork to get it running.

There is most definitely some downplaying going on here.
They have started with PS3 games, but that's not the goal at all. Your statement is a very short sighted view of the service.
I think he's referring to the fact that (iirc) you can still use all of the X1 features while playing 360 games. with the Wii U you're basically turning your console into a Wii until you reboot it. with the X1 you can play x360 games and take screenshots and stuff like that. it sounds pretty neat.
Because PSNow isnt just a BC solution. Its a Platform

Except ps now is not about that..like at all. PS3 games was just a starting point, it is a totally new platform that will not just be old games and will play games on many devices without a console. PS now is a heck of a lot more, only downplaying I see is people downplaying ps now and what its purpose is.
Nope, been explained dozen times already.
PC Elitists will ignore this. Sure, they'll say, "Well, I can play this game on PC instead of on the PS4 & I don't have to worry about buying so-&-so console for it!", etc.
Well, what's going to happen later on in the future when you can no longer play the games that you bought on that platform, or need to update your PC or something? At least with consoles, we're guaranteed to play the games on the machine as many times as we wish.
A good reply. Gaikai is to expand their gaming circle, not to 'fix' BC. If people want PS3 games they'll buy a PS3. BC isn't really that important in my eyes. although its a nice feature to have, i would not sacrifice anything else for very spotty case by case basis software emulation, especially considering how 360s and PS3's are plentiful.
Of course this outcome is all because they knew PS3 would be a dead end solution for emulation for PS4, so they have to move on.
That being said, PS2 and PS1 i think should be doable sometime in the future, so i hope they take that into account eventually.

Probably because tons of gamers haven't even seen PS Now yet, and those that have can only play PS3 games at the moment.
The service is not close to fulfilling its purpose.

Since I have my ps3 still and didn't sell any of my games I'm ok. But it would be nice to have it all play on one system. I do wonder how some reacted to Microsoft's announcement. I would be super annoyed if I already sold my 360 and games and then 2 years later they say "oh...look what we can do 😊!" But otherwise that was the only good announcement from their conference to me.

You can see they had something to do with blood borne, deep down, tomorrow children. They had a similar set up with demon souls and japan studios. Even in the PS2 era, sony had a internal tech team (ICE) which shu yoshida was a part of which helped internal studios and closer third party partners.

A lot of people who haven't seen PSnow thinks it is BC, and don't know that everything is priced.
PSnow when officially released is gonna blow up in Sony's face, Sony said PS4 would have access to the entire back catalogue of Playstation titles.
And so far they've got a rental steaming service for PS3 games.
What I've bolded is simply not true. I was talking to my friend last night and, from the way he explained it, they emulate parts of the 360 dashboard like the achievements page. Another caveat is that you also need to boot up your 360 to make sure everything is synced up if you plan on continuing your old games where you left off.
Other than that, he said Battleblock Theater and Super Meat Boy worked fine, he just didn't have access to his SMB save right out of the gate.

When people go in to PS2 mode on PS3 it turns off the network connection, so they aren't tracking it there.
Is he saying few people bought PS Classics? Because they seem to be supporting that to this day on PS3, which would lead me to believe it gets enough use to be supported.

I want to know where they get the actual metrics for this, because you can always say that a feature which is not available is rarely used. As far as I can tell, there is a still viable market for PS1 classics on last gen systems, which indicates that enough people use the feature for it to matter.

My point is Sony really needs to kick it into overdrive if they want PS Now to be seen as anything other than a workaround to play Cell-based PS3 games. They need a better back catalogue, more compatible devices, better pricing.
It needs to be an actual platform if that's what they want people to view it as.
Until they reach that point, Sony's response to Microsoft's backwards compatibility solution is a total downplay. They're trying to save face and convince us that PS Now will eventually be bigger and better.
Yes, it runs the full 360 OS and you can bring up the guide and use the 360 chat etc. The poster you're replying to is still correct though. That all runs within the "xbox one game" as far as the Xbox One is concerned. You still have full access to the Xbox One OS in addition to the virtual 360
Obviously you need to make sure your saves are in the cloud in order to use cloud saves. 360 cloud saving was not as transparent as XB1
SMB is the exception to saves -- it is listed in the known issues

Even if all the future Games With Gold Xbox 360 titles work on Xbox One?
If all the PS+ PS3 games worked on PS4 I would absolutely play them on PS4.

Not sure what the big fascination is with BC, if you want to play your PS360 games why upgrade to the latest gen? Or why didn't you keep your old machine? I've still got my ps3 and all my games. Have I played it since getting my ps4? Only whilst I was working away and took my ps3 with me for in the hotel.
When you upgrade you usually do it because you want the newer games. If ps4 had BC would I play any old games? Unlikely, given my limited playtime I'm always going to opt for my newer shiny games.
Would BC be welcomed on ps4? Yes by the hardcore, by the casuals probably not. For people migrating from the 360, again probably not as they won't have the old ps3 games to play anyway. Sony have realised this and given the difficulties in emulating the ps3 on ps4 they will have decided it just isn't worth the hassle and cost.
Good on MS for implementing BC, they listened to their fans and it made sense from a business prospective as previously mentioned, due to trying to stop 360 players moving across to the PS4.
For those mentioning PSNow as being a poor substitute due to charging you to play games you already own, can I ask why would you play it on PSNow if you already own it? I agree with others in that PSNow is for games to be accessible to more people and to lay foundations for future game streaming services when it takes over from owning consoles (I dread the day gaming is via streaming only).

Thanks. I know about Sony's tech teams that help with third party projects but it doesn't seem like PS2 emulation on PS4 would be such a huge undertaking that it would require massive numbers of people to make it a reality. I mean they managed PS2 emulation on the PS3 on more complex, less powerful hardware (I'm talking about the software emulation later on in the PS3's life. Not the early PS3 emulation through added PS2 hardware).

Sony is leading the market right now, MS is not. They needed to garner some goodwill and ensure that people with 360s will convert to XB1. That's exactly what this BC announcement is designed to do.

The titles have to be approved by publishers before you can play them on Xbox One, so my guess is no, not yet.
Sony has plenty of experience shipping BC consoles, and doubtless they have statistics to back up their belief. Given that I still have a 360 connected I can tell you exactly how many titles I've played on it lately: one, and it's one they've already said wont be supported (Rock Band 3.) Likewise I played a grand total of two PS1 titles on PS2 (MGS and FFVII) after not owning the original Playstation. Why would I jump for joy at the presence of BC? It's a nice feature, but of limited value and even less meaningful when it isn't available right at the start of a generation.

Bingo. If this was announced during the XB1 reveal, it's a whole different ballgame. As it stands now I assume the vast majority of older-gen gamers have either purchased a next-gen system or decided they will stick with their current console. I suspect the impact of this announcement on their sales will be minimal.

While the Xbox 360 dashboard is available you only need to use it if you want to be in parties or interact with friends in ways that are only able to be done from 360 -> 360. I can press the guide button on a controller and it will (if the game can) pause and let me do anything I can do while on an XB1 just like any other game on that system.

Well if we use this as a metric, we can say Xbox BC is severely limited because only about 20 titles are available..........

He's entirely right. A great feature that's not used that much that costs a lot of money, usually, to implement.
Same with every company.
When you don´t offer a service you say "nobody needs that"
It´s Marketing 101 and everyone does it and basically has to do it.

It is incredibly limited right now. That doesn't change the fact that Playstation Now is a service which provides the option to play games from old Playstation Systems, nor does it change the mental gymnastics and blind fanboyism required to say that isn't a backwards compatibility service right now, regardless of what other devices it can be used on.
People are making the argument of "NOBODY PLAYS OLD GAMES! PLAYSTATION NOW IS DIFFERENT BECAUSE IT'S PLAYING OLD GAMES!"

Such a meaningless argument after the shift to digital. This is a new era, where people buy stuff on their iphone, PS, Xbox, Steam etc and would like to continue to have access to it.
Yes, but Microsoft also pick the titles that arrive in GwG. So they could easily manage it so that most titles will eventually get supported when the feature officially launches later this year.
