But Schofield added that it was good for health of the whole industry to have three successful home consoles in the market. "I love having the three major machines like that."

Translation: I don't want my only option to be Nintendo, amirite! LOL.

The 360 alone doesn't have a lot of justifiability as an exclusive platform to develop for, at this point. As long as the PS3 is at least semi-viable as a porting platform from the 360, it allows them to ram their head in the sand longer until Sony can save them from this Wii nightmare for next generation.

Regarding about which games that will come out for the PS3 for the rest of the year, have anyone here mentioned Bayonetta yet? I think this game could come out in 2009. Maybe the game itself isnt directly a hardware seller, but i do think the game itself can sell relatively ok/well. I think it should be interesting to see how it sells :)

EDIT: I added some text.

Beautiful Katamari is still on the list, are these due to bundles or something?

A combo disk of Ace Combat 6 and Beautiful Katamari (BEST editions) are included with some new 360s. Famitsu has decided to track them separately, so, yes, both of those are due to bundles.

The main thing that I notice is that Microsoft only seem interested in going after the niche JRPG audience of Japan. What about the Yakuza audience? What about the MGS audience? Why haven't Microsoft done more to secure franchises outside of JRPG genre since if they can get tri-Ace to basically go exclusive for an entire gen on their absolute small niche console in the region then they could have surely secured more from other genres that the Japanese like as well.

I'm actually more shocked at the DSi and PSP numbers than the Wii number. Seems weird that the biggest seller last week sold 36,000 units - and it was the PS3

Well DS still sold more overall.

But yeah, I think the Wii slowdown has disguised the fact that nothing is looking that great this year.

So true. The game would have sold more than 500,000 combined.

I just don't get SE. You have three relative 'tanks' (TLR, IU [I know MS owns the IP], and now this) and none of them are multi-plat. Yet you decide to Multi-plat FFXIII. I mean, why isn't everything multi? Make every game PS360 like Capcom, so that TLR, SO4 and FFvsXIII can achieve nice worldwide sales. But alas, I guess wada needs to learn his lesson on his own.

That's not the tragic part. The sad part is how FFXIII isn't Japan-bound for 360. :lol

Why are you so sure that TLR and SO4 will never come out for PS3? If you had the 360 versions of your games ready early (because of UE3 problems on the PS3 and tri-Ace's past experience with the 360, presumably) wouldn't you take MS up on a deal to release those versions first in exchange for MS footing the multi-million dollar marketing bills? You'll still get those PS3 sales later.

If SO4 isn't out on PS3 within a year, you can call Wada an idiot then. But based on what we know, Squeni seems to have acted pretty rationally. I don't see them losing a ton of PS3 sales because they released the 360 versions first, and they would have to lose a LOT of sales to make up for the free marketing campaigns (and who knows what other support) that they got from MS.

Square-enix will balance these sales with sales of tomb raider: pulse raider

If SO4 isn't out on PS3 within a year, you can call Wada an idiot then.

I, for whatever reason, have this feeling it will not be. And TLR should really be out soon. Or at least talked about.

Takuhi said:

It won't matter if TLR is ever released on the PS3. They've already blown their chances of it selling. SO4 on the other hand might be able to have the success that the Director's Cut of SO3 had though.

Yeah that is confusing, there are a couple of possibilities why, maybe it would've been too expensive to buy out the exclusivity contract between Sony/SE for Japan.

If SO4 was an Xbox 360 exclusive, MS and Squeni sure missed a huge opportunity to boast about that fact when marketing the game.

Also, remember tri-Ace's help-wanted ads for people to handle PS3 ports? And the way the game was clearly multiplatform (being featured in Famitsu PlayStation and whatnot) before it was announced as 360 only?

That would be really, really odd if it didn't come out for PS3 eventually.

Me? I have one, I'm more concerned with how horribly SE is doing financially, and how they're sinking and seemingly not caring to get as much money as humanly possible.

cvxfreak said:

That's weird to me too. I guess if they put it on 360 it may take longer to get the game out since they only were supposed to come out on PS3? It's not like it'd sell terribly well in Japan anyway, but it's a weird decision nonetheless. I just think that the way things are going, there really shouldn't be any third-party exclusives aside from Gears and Metal gear Solid, since they mean so much to the respective systems.

I agree but I don't know if SO4 will have big sales on PS3 if it comes a year later, how did Eternal Sonata sell on PS3 compared to the 360?

I still expect both SO4 and TOV to come out on PS3, at least in Japan.

So a game needs to be moderately heavy in plot to be considered a spin-off?

So you'd agree with me that Guitar Hero: On Tour for the DS and Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party for the Wii aren't spin-off's of those series?
MHP2 is a port from MH2 with some changes therefore it isn't a spinoff.
