PSU PS2 was released 3 months ago, why on earth would anyone in Japan buy PSU 360 considering the userbase

Uhm, if the 360 user base can buy 80k copies of Blue Dragon they can buy 20k copies of the best version of PSU. Voice chat alone is worth it over the PS2 version. Besides, PSU 360 can be played with other 360 players world-wide, unlike the PC and PS2 versions, so user base wouldn't have been an issue for them. I never minded playing with the Japanese in the original game on Dreamcast and Xbox.

Are you suggesting they should have waited 3 months to buy a marginally better version of this multiplayer game none of their friends will likely own? Even if they didn't mind playing with strangers, the language barrier is a pretty big deal.

DS
Shiren - 50k
Puyo Puyo - 18k
Rockman:
Pegasus - 16k
Dragon - 14k
Leo - 13k
Chocobo - 13k
Naruto - 10k
Kabutore - 8k
SNK vs Cap Card - 4k

PS2
Wild Arms Vth - 43k
Power Pro 13 final - 18k
Beatmania IIDX12 Happy Sky - 10k

PSP
WE10 Ubiquitous - 16k
Maplus - 5.5k

Wii
Pokermans - 34k
Bleach - 9k

360
EDF3 - 9k
WEX - 7k
Oneechan - 6k
PSU - bomba?

PS3
Motorstorm - 7k

So basically EDF3 > WEX = Motorstorm :D

Yikes EDF3 sold the best??? Looks like 360 momentum is dead. Will Lost Planet flop??? Looks like Wii is officially a Flop? Next gen in japan dead confirmed? Non gaming killed even Pokemon.

But seriosuly everything looks really low. Did the market colapse this week? Square Enix to leave DS????? Seriosuly wtf.

Well if you assume that everyone that owns a 360 also owns a PS2, you have a point. But even so, after playing PSO with keyboard and PSO + PSU with voice chat there is a lot more than just a marginal difference. It completely changes the speed of the game + communication. It eliminates all the clunkiness. Not to mention you also have the benefit of 720p which is equally important when you consider how small the menu text is. So yeah, I would expect that some WOULD wait for the much more playabale version of PSU. But I guess I was wrong.

Uh, the Dragon wasn't DQMBR, but rather Mega Man.

Uhm, I don't believe any of those games are anywhere near the same level as Lost Planet. Sure you could make a case for WEX, but as is the case with PSU, it looks like most people that wanted to play the PS2 games PSU and WEX bought them on the PS2. After all, both of them are nothing more than pretty much PS2 ports.

In any case though, you are right, these numbers suck all the way around. There's no spinning this.

Kay I was wrong about the DQ. Put if pokemond doesnt have legs nintendo is ****ed!
Didn't Pokemon Colleseum only debut at around 150k in the 1st week with the Gamecube install base around 2.5 million, and the console well on its 2nd year?
Pokemon Battle Revolution, in comparison is doing pretty well considering the install base is only around 450k+, for its 1st day. Nothing spectacular, but not terrible either.

How the hell is PS3 ever going to take off, there's nothing in the near future that could sprout a craze big enought for that. Sony is in such a difficult position right now, stuck on a very outdated business model and strategy. They need to work hard or PS3 will go the PSP way.

The PS3 is so good that it does not need any games to sell (how many consoles can say that?). Remember, consumers don't buy consoles based on games, on user experience, or any of that nonsense, they only rely on brand. The great analysts of our time have repeatedly said that the PS3 will win this generation (and they are SOOOOO smart, so much smarter than us stupid gamers). The PS3 has not overshot the market, it was ingeniously 'future proofed' meaning that years from now, gamers will go, "LOL, why am I playing with mediocre hardware? I must go out and get a PS3 immediately!" This will be the same time when they realize, "Hey, why am I watching ugly DVD video? I must replace my DVD collection immediately with Blu-Ray!"

The Wii is a novelty that will soon fade, and everyone will return to TRUE GAMING which is the PS3 (nevermind that no one is buying PS3 games). The DS is also about to be seen as 'old' and 'tired' as Japan will embrace the future proofed PSP. Remember that video games are not about entertainment, they are about hardware.

Sony is losing hundreds of millions over the PS3. Nintendo could learn from Sony's business genius.

The reason why there has been so much confusion is that the sales charts keep getting messed up by including non-gaming machines into the gaming charts.

Gaming Hardware Chart

1.) PlayStation 3 - 50,171 | 31,436 | 238,007 | 238,007
2.) Xbox 360 - 35,343 | 4,053 | 142,846 | 213,412
3.) PlayStation 2 - 30,460 | 23,115 | 1,328,127 | 20,032,751
4.) PlayStation Portable - 28,930 | 23,917 | 1,592,948 | 4,275,904
5.) Game Boy Advance SP - 1,896 | 1,572 | 217,136 | 5,909,572
6.) Game Boy micro - 1,555 | 1,252 | 138,274 | 553,963
7.) GameCube - 569 | 821 | 72,629 | 4,166,219
8.) Game Boy Advance - 17 | 22 | 3,309 | 8,822,959
9.) Xbox - 6 | 11 | 1,752 | 475,595
10.) Lapsed's Shoebox of Rocks - 1 | 0 | 1 | 1

Non-Gaming Hardware Chart

1.) Nintendo DS Lite - 309,630 | 176,901 | 6,441,813 | 6,441,813
2.) Nintendo Wii - 85,439 | 350,358 | 435,797 | 435,797
3.) Nintendo DS - 167 | 140 | 934,766 | 6,581,715

As you can see, the PS3 and Xbox 360 dominate the gaming chart while Nintendo DS and Wii are choking in their isolation in the non-gaming chart. Poor Nintendo! (They ought to go third party!)

Honestly, the DS is skewing the charts so much right now, that putting it in it's own category almost seems fitting. I don't think even the PS2 ever saw such a tremendous explosion in sales the way the DS has. And to think it all really started with Nintendogs. :( PEACE.

I don't think these numbers are bad.

Rockman: It is like 43k first day, maybe this game will sell better on the weekend and also a lot better on Christmas weekend (usually they have legs). Maybe the slow start is due the introduction of a "New" Series

Pokemon: Same case, will end in 120k first week, more or less

Furai: Remake, won't sell a gazillion

Chocobo: I remember a GBA Chocobo game that couldn't even chart in 2003

Motorstorm: BoMbA

Just when I finally say I'm impressed by DS 3rd party sales (I think last weeks thread) THESE first day sales pop up.

Deja Vu.

Anyways, I am optimistic about ALL those first day sales for DS and Wii. I believe it's just the previous big hit DS titles (new Super Mario, Kirby, Common Knowledge, AC, Pokemon, Brain Age, Love and Berry)... gosh that's a lot.

THOSE titles are sucking the life from the launches of these other titles. I don't know if that's good or bad, but at least a majority of those titles are REAL games.

For the Wii, I REALLY hope it isn't Wii Sports and rather Zelda fighting it's way back to the top of the charts. I'm glad for Pokemon sales because Wii still only ahs a small userbase. In fact, I'm surprised Japan has forgave Nintendo and bought that many Pokemon BR after XD and Colosseum, ESPECIALLY since this is a downgrade from those two.

Don't Japan sales pick up a shitload during the last two weeks of December and the first week of the New Year?

Yep. But first day sales can always be deceiving. Biohazard 4 on PS2 had 40K for its first day and 240K its first four days -- either first day counts weren't totally accurate or it picked up over the next few days.

For those of you out there with all the numbers, I have an idea for a new statistic. Average rate per week. Total sales divided by weeks on market. You could even do graphs on this data. Cool.

Who here on GAF has Sales Figures Disorder?

SFD is where you really, really love it when sales figures come through (even when the week isn't significant for releases of games or consoles or any other special occasions), and when they do, you don't really care, unless something unexpected or irregularly impressive happens.
