Why not shorten the publisher column?
Namco Bandai = NBGI
Nippon Ichi = NIS
and just Pokemon Co. for the last one.

it's really crazy though how MS have won over large chunks of the 2ch crowd.

Not sure how that happened

core 2ch crowd is (well, atleast used to be) otaku/kichigai that would buy oddities in the first place...not really a big surprise. Also, I suspect the majority of the flaming crowd is limited to a minimal number of people. It's really easy to make it appear like multiple people are posting, when in reality, it's only one person...

hell, I only have to disconnect/reconnect to my old uni's proxy server to change my ID on there while posting...and that only takes like 1-2 sec tops.

WHAT THE HELL????

Why is the PSP below the DS lite?

This is shocking.
The trajectories have been going in that direction for months so it's not really surprising.

Wow at the Tales effect. Wii needs more games.

PS3 and 360 have switched places! :lol

Really surprised to see the DS back on top though, didn't think that FE and RTG could've had more of an effect on hardware than PSP!

Use whatever browser you want to, but as a numbers guy I'm not inclined to let that stand.

2004 was the last time IE had 90%+ browser usage share. It's currently around 73%-78% depending on which tracking service you take into account (Net Applications is the most commonly cited one), and falls precipitously the further away from the US you get or the more tech-focused the site is.

This isn't a fanboy thing; my browser of choice is a distant third and barring Microsoft's bankruptcy, will never break 15% in my lifetime.

13. Wario Shake 15000 58000
14. Band Bros DX 13000 246000
22. Project Zero Wii 8900 39000

Good news for Fatal Frame. Better second week that either FF2 or FF3 (we don't have FF1's second week; only that its second+third weeks combined were 21k). I think holding the original Fatal Frame audience would be considered a victory.

Band Bros DX now 50% ahead of the lifetime sales of Band Bros.

Wario continues to build, but let's not lose perspective--Master of Disguise did 87k, 53k, 21k. Wario World did 49k, 22k, 15k. Wario Land 4 did 102k, 37k, 22k. WLS is not holding up better, and it started substantially lower than the previous three Wario platformers.

25. New Super Mario Bros 6800 5249000

1.64 million to go. Unfortunately, it's not going to make it. If sales NEVER drop from 6800 per week, it'll still be Spring 2013 before it crosses. If it drops linearly until 0, it'll be Spring 2019 before it crosses. Sorry, Nintendo!

Thanks. It's fairly irrelevant now, but will FF4 have the highest second week in the series? Stayed tuned for the unrounded numbers! (FF2 had a 8,932 second week) Hopefully this one makes it to the end of year charts so we get an update.

I'm -very- surprised if the 360 doesn't return to it's original 2k-4k weekly sales within 2 weeks.

With Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant coming soon and nothing of consequence for the PS3 in Japan until next March, it wouldn't shock me if Sony has blown it so badly over there that the PS3 moves into third place.

13. Wario Shake 15000 58000

Please just keep selling Wario! Compared to first day numbers, it has excellent legs already but compared to other LTD's in the series it still has quite a way to go.

Yup, I'd say so. It seems to have made the transition fairly smoothly, in spite of the bugs & iffy word of mouth.

Band Bros DX now 50% ahead of the lifetime sales of Band Bros.

Excellent result.

Yeah, I think some people are expecting far too much from WLS. It has improved enormously on its awful first day sales, but it is only going to hold out for another couple of weeks & it's going to be lucky to sniff 100k by the time the year is out. I'm delighted to see it still charting but it hasn't been anywhere near as successful as I'd hoped. Hopefully it will have done at least enough to justify Nintendo taking another pop at a console 2D platformer.

Is it still at full price? Theoretically it still seems possible with a bundle or a price drop.

2nd week is on par with them but totals as of their seconds weeks would be:
Fatal Frame 3 - 54,067
Fatal Frame 2 - 50,938
Fatal Frame Wii - 39,000

I don't know if Nintendo recalled it or postponed a second shipment to fix the bugs but its going to need better legs to match LTDs of FF3 (69k) or FF2 (64k), any legs could do since those practically didn't have (hence my question about recall/shipment).

Lost in Blue comparisons, surprised me to see 2nd DS one legs. First week (LTD if available).
Lost in Blue - 8,550 (just first week data, no more updates)
Lost in Blue 2 - 12,040 (62,794)
Lost in Blue 3 - end of December, I think its only from top500 or 2 weeks data (26,480)
Lost in Blue Wii - 3,600

Imabikisou port (it was a port right?) sure couldn't cash-in much.
PS3 Imabikisou - 20,419 (39,299)
WII Imabiki-Sou Kaimei-Hen - 3,100

There are two Monster Farm games for PS that sold 730k and 640k. Really. Franchise downfall makes me remember Arc The Lad or Yu-Gi-Oh.
Monster Farm DS - 20,152 (43,328)
Monster Farm DS 2 - 11,000

Let's not set the bar that high. MS might be happy just to bump their weekly sales to 6-7k vs. 2-4k they're getting now. The PS3 looks like it may have hit its bottom here, does anyone predict a week were the PS2 exacts revenge against big brother?

Based on the latest Media Create numbers...
DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 50.8 / 49.2, bringing total shares to 69.6 / 30.4 At this week's rates, PSP catches up to DS in -6,725.0 weeks (September 23, 1879). If DS stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 222.2 weeks (November 13, 2012).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 20.1 / 79.9, bringing total shares to 25.6 / 74.4. If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 444.8 weeks (February 18, 2017).

They could try the "rerelease with the same SKU" trick that worked for Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros.
1567+-+Famicom+Mini%3A+Super+Mario+Bros.+-+GBA

So now that we know the PSP-3000 is coming sooner rather than later, what does sales-age think of it? Will it provide anywhere near the bump 2000+CCFF7 did? Will it come this year? Will it be bundled with Dissidia FF? Speculation ahoy!

Personally I think this time to spur the same buying/re-buying reaction the 2000 did they're going to have to do something more than just Slim the unit down, unless they only want a 1 week bump like the new colours. 1 radical change (built in memory, removing the UMD drive, etc) would be enough to do it though imo.

I think he just means in weekly sales, not overall. The 360 does have a chance at having a few more weeks on top of the PS3 before the end of the year is over. Whether it does it on a more consistent level, we'll see. I am pulling for it to do it again next week but that depends on the supply levels. The shortage may have killed that change.

jimbo said:

Correct. I didn't mean the 360 would overtake the PS3's total userbase in Japan. With Vesperia + Last Remnant + Infinite Undisovery, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the 360 could sustain 10k sales a week going forward, and the PS3 in Japan has got absolutely nothing until RE5 + FFXIII demo in March.

There's quite a gap in there between IU and TLR, you really think 360 can sustain 10k with no games for the 4 months succeeding IU?

Ehn, we need to know something about it before we can really talk.

Damn, PS3 sales aren't doing good at all over there for some reason. I think it's time for Sony to make a PS3 Slim. It's the reason the PSP started creaming over there this year, and it needs to be the same for the PS3. Also, MGS4 didn't get the love it deserved. It should've easily sold a million in Japan by now.

Bizzyb said:
How come the Tales game on Wii didn't do this good??

It makes no sense....

Firstly, the Wii version was a spin-off, albeit hastily re-worked as something closer to a main entry after it was clear what was happening with the system. Secondly, its first week figures handily exceeded ToV - something like 60k more - and its since gone on to sell over 200k.

A hardware refresh is no good without games. PSP-2000 would have done nowhere near the numbers it did without CCFF7 and MHP.

Even in the weeks during the Yakuza/DMC4/Valkyria period PS3 sales dropped slowly rather than "like a rock" when MGS4 became the last game on the horizon. All it needs is a steady stream of games, but that's easier said than done.

PS3 continues to outsell 360 in US while 360 sells at least double of PS3 in Japan. human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

And MS almost erased PS3's NPD advantage with a week of Japan sales!

There's a black hole opening somewhere and parallel dimensions are invading, man. Crazy world.

Well granted this is the first week that the PS3 has stopped declining in sales in over a month, I think it's also too early to say it has bottomed out. I think we should wait till next week to say the same about the PS3 as well since 100 consoles the other way doesn't say much. It has done as low as 7,400 before, so we will see.

I didn't see anyone post this but...

According to sinobi, Grand Theft Auto IV is going to release on 10/30/08 for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3...Fully localized.

Don't know who will care, but it's pretty good news for the X360 owners. The last few itenerations of GTA have all been PS2-exclusive.

This fanboy spin is terrifying. How about PS3's June NPD advantage erasing well.. every single stream cross that X360 had? Sad and pathetic.

Why do you expect the PS3 to keep dropping, it's base level has been 10k~.

Nice to see a bunch of quality JRPGs sell well.

Putting Phantasy Star on PSP was a smart move by Sega. Good job following Capcoms lead.

BTW: Why aren't there YTD/LTD numbers for consoles in the original posting anymore?
