Maybe I should ask for drop below 50K, since there is no way that DS will drop to <50K due to shortages.

If Nintendo keeps their shipments consistently going at a good clip, I agree. Before the DS Lite, the DS had a sub-20K week in January due to shortages, but then Nintendo wasn't/couldn't do weekly shipments. They were totally caught flat-footed after that December rush.

DS will probably outsell the Wii at launch also.

I doubt the DS will outsell Wii. Nintendo will likely temorarily slow the DS shipments so Japan is forced to look at another alternative when the Wii launches.

Nintendo don't want the charts to show their console from 2 years back outselling their hottest new product, even if it costs them millions (which'll be claimed when they raise the DS shipments again anyway).

Remember that right now, Nintendo controls Japan.
Who'd have thought it, three years back.

I'm pretty sure Iwata would think you were crazy if you suggested such a plan to him. There's no benefit.

1. Retailers wouldn't be impressed, because they'll know they got shorted on DS shipment numbers.

2. Nintendo cares about making money, not silly PR stunts that the 0.001% of their customer base that was even paying attention would dismiss because it was a supply fluke, not a trend.

3. PS3 sales being obliterated by the sales of two Nintendo systems each by themselves makes a much better headline, even if it's based on Sony's suppy problems.

4. Slowing DS sales is highly unlikely to transfer demand to the Wii.

That plan doesn't make a lick of sense. I see Axord has already broken down why.

It's a good thing you aren't running a multi-billion dollar corporation.

Question for those that stay at Japan :
- Is it still difficult to buy DSL ? Is the DSL still sold out within half day of re-stock ? I remember Jonnyram mention (about one month ago) that shops usually re-stock DSL on Saturday morning, and it is usually sold out by Saturday noon.
- if there is still shortage of DS, how much is the asking price for DSL by the smaller shops (who have it available, but at a higher than standar price) ?

100.000 PS3 units for Japan. It's most likely that the DS will outsell this.

I was just unsure of how much PS3 was shipping. I said to myself "Yeah I think its 100,000" but then I said to myself "Wait a minute, Sony isn't a retarded company. What kind of a launch is only 100,000 units."

Yeah, the fanboy are gonna put it all over the internet

"PS3 launch outsold by Nintendo DS"

I am Tokyo, I don't know about elsewhere in Japan.
1. Yes DSL is still sold out generally. Most stores exhaust their supply of DSLs by the end of the day they received the shipment on. Most bigger stores announce they have DSLs and how many then people line up and buy them, usually this exhausts the stock but sometimes it doesn't

2. Small shops charge the normal price for DSL. Some shops are importing DSls from different regions and selling them.

DS has the potential of completely destroying the PS2 in sales because of the price advantage and the fact that families tend to buy more than one DS (one per child) vs one PS2 per household (or in Japan, I guess one of each color per household :lol)

I don't think we'll see DS sales drop any time soon, I can see this trend continuing for another year or so. Mighty impressive that they're STILL selling over 100,000 a month. Never expected that.

I'm still voting for the DS/Wii non-gamer package. It comes with Wii Training packed in.

I'd expect something slightly higher than PS2. But best case for Nintendo is 30 million units. ~20-25 million if DS sales stars to slow down next year.

You could.. Maybe work on your formulas for a couple of more months, and start posting them again when they get a bit more accurate. Maybe within 10% of the [strikeout]real[/strikeout] media create and famitsu numbers.

Well, duh. It's selling 99% of its shipment every week. That alone should be enough of a clue that there's an enormous demand out there that's sustaining from week to week and isn't being met by those weekly shipments which equals further continual sellthroughs. :p

I think you may miss the Yu Yu game for NDS there. According to Sinobi, its first day sales is pretty close to PS2 Kenshin game last week.

But I hope it completely failed after first day since all Japanese will realise that it is the WGOTY...

I don't know...it's too much kanji to translate.
If there were some katakana maybe I'd hav a clue of what those games are.

Not enough to meet demand.

Actually, Pokemon games have traditionally met their demand due to previous expectations. I expect no different from D/P, although we may see an exception for them.

#2 is a NDS game from a comedy comics Gintama in Jump (I don't know if it is published outside Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong). It is an RPG iirc.

#8 is a boy-chasing game by Koei. It should be new game for the series on PS2.

#10 is the Kenshin (Jump's comics ended 5 years ago) fighting game on PS2.
