1 PSP game outselling all DS and Wii games combined? :lol

always wanted to do this

Are people really putting much weight into games like Gundam Mosou, Heavenly Sword and VF, as far as sales go? The only games that can push PS3 are big franchises, and from what I know there isn't any coming soon. GranTurismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry. For now PS3 is doing quite good, without any game in top 30.

Of those only Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy are system sellers. When are they coming out again?

edit: Oh Snap

Not quite as good for the Wii as rumored, but still pretty solid.

Nice bump for PSP as expected.

Just for my own clarification -

Why does the ridiculously bad sales of the PS3 get a pass and a "it's not too late to turn it all around!" from media outlets, while when Nintendo and its GC was in last place, it was getting a "Nintendo R teh D00MED!!!1" everywhere you looked? The hypocrisy is maddening.

Heh, probably should have thrown in a question mark considering the sentence was a question. ;)

No big releases yet. No, seriously what big release has there been to push insane sales outside of the hardcore users?

If it's still pulling these numbers at Final Fantasy 13.......

DS combined LTD = 15,383,087
GBA combined LTD = 15,320,625

DS combined LTD is now ahead of GBA combined LTD, and it has reached that LTD in less than half the time it took the GBA to.

So here are my thoughts on why it takes so long to get restocks:

You need to book manufacturing time with Nintendo well in advance of when you need it, at least a few months usually. Company puts in a modest order for their initial print run and schedules a time for their first resupply, not wanting to make too many and potentially flood the retail channel if the game bombs. Considering how many DS carts are probably in production, it's highly unlikely their restock print time is scheduled sooner than a few weeks after their release date. They expect their initial print run to last until then.

Release date comes, and the game sells out, and so the company needs to restock a lot faster than anticipated, they can't get it any sooner than their scheduled manufacturing time.

I'm sure all these companies are making proper estimates for their first print runs, but even considering the DS boom it's not necessarily good business sense to make a gigantic first print run for release unless you're really really really damn sure it's all going to sell out...otherwise you just flood the retail channel with a bunch of unsold stock.

Well, in fairness, the GameCube perpetually had coming games that were of an equal calibre as Final Fantasy, too. The Mario series, for instance.

Nice, but PSP should have sold more considering a large, 700k-in-its-first-week title was just released. DS has been handicapped by shortages, but what's the PSP's excuse? They're all over Japan. It could have hit 200k.

I think outselling the PS3 nearly four to one is more than just "pretty solid".

Good to see that PSP boost. :)

Is the Wii still out of stock?

You're right, its awesome..just a letdown when the numbers released earlier were 90K plus.

Looks like Nintendo was right, at least as far as Japan is concerned. Last-gen graphics are good enough.

They're owning face over their. There is no doubt about that.

As soon as rumble and Home are released, this will be reversed.

Or at least that seems to be the feeling in those other threads. :p

Good job Cheesemeister : you are the MC of MC threads :)

Good PSP numbers but I think that this increase resulted more from the release of "gold" psp (february 22th) than from the release of Monster Hunter...

Yeah, it's getting to the point now where Sony can't dig themselves out of this hole. Even if FF XIII was released tomorrow, I don't think things would change too much.

The DS is so strong! It's insane. You would have thought the PSP would outsell the DS this week, but noo. It keeps going on and on and on.

Also the Wii sold slightly less than I predicted, even though it did sell 15k more than last week.

Again, ouch PS3! Next week will be interesting though.

I think you guys need to understand that Nintendo is not a semiconductor company and does not manufacture the ROMs that go into their DS cards. They purchase them from Mask ROM suppliers like Macronix. When you look at Macronix's most recent quarterly report, you can see that since the middle of 2005, they have averaged over 100% utilization of wafer output. Nintendo can't force ROM manufacturers to build more fabs (~150 million to 1 billion USD investment per fab). They would need to do something like offer to pay more per ROM, which would increase the cost of DS games or decrease publishers profit margins.

Don't come in here with your sane ramblings and logic! It's all Nintendo's fault and they can make 500,000 more cartridges or 5 more fab plants appear out of thin air with a wave of their hand!

Back to being serious though. I'm amazed the DS still out sold the PSP. I honestly thought the PSP would get ahead this time. Oh well, at least they are closing the gap(tm).

And the PS3.. Is that the lowest number so far?

Wow, MHP2 did move systems it seems, nearly tripled the sales of the PSP. And it only sold to 65% of th MHP install base (705k (MHP2 sales) - 100k (PSP sales) / 930 (MHP sales)). Of course, if I remember the split correctly, it's sold to just about 100% of the people who bought MHP full price, so any sales it has after this are either upgrades to full price customers or new customers. Either way Capcom certainly rocked this one.

Wii vs. PS3, eh, not at all surprising. Guess we'll see what happens next week with Gundam Musou. If shipments really are on 150k-200k, not sure how much of a spike it can have. I mean, there are plenty of PS3's available, so it could sell 1:1 with Gundam Musou, but that's assuming: A) No one who already has a PS3 will buy a copy of GM and B) People without a PS3 will still buy the PS3, even if they can't find a copy of GM.

Anyone know what the next 360 game with a chance of decent sales in Japan is? Trusty Bell? When is that due?

Hmm, wonder how close the Wii is to the GCN.

I thought it was around halfway.

Also, those Wii sales are lower than I thought. Still good, though.
