Wow, the market sees Nintendo as bigger than a pharma company, a tobacco company and a steel company. Goddamit. I know it will rise even further(The Wii engine is just revving up) but I'm too poor to invest in the ADRs ;_;

Gaf should have some sort of collective money pool and invest in our company of choice.

From Sinobi...

EDIT: Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 14 for PS2/Wii sold 100,000 copies on its first day with a PS2:Wii ratio of 8:2. Compared with LTDs for previous entries in the series on PS2...

Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 10 = 510k
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 11 = 440k
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 12 = 430k
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 13 = 330k

The GameCube version of 12 sold 80k. DS titles Mushi King Super Collection and Naruto: Shippuuden were off to a slow start with sales of only 20k. However, Detective Jinguuji Saburou (DS) is selling out with unexpectedly strong first day sales of 10k. The Best Price version of Ultraman Fighting Evolution 3 (PS2) sold through 30% of its 5000 unit shipment. The Sengoku Basara Double-Pack (PS2) that included a DVD sold a weak 1000 units.

A Hudson rep wrote a letter saying that Momotarou Dentetsu 16 for the Wii will be the last in the series, citing unpredictable sales making the choosing of shipment numbers unfeasible.

Yeah, simply it is not possible. An expansion would be needed, because market capitalisation is not enough to reach Mitsubishi and Toyota. By the way, where is Mazda ?

I was joking, and I don't think I added percentages on page 13, but posted as Deku asked me.

For restatement, the DS has quite a task on its hands:

Results/Analysis
Current NDS 2007 YTD: 4,252,375
Current NDS 2006 YTD: 3,849,643 (Same period)

DSQ3PNG.png

A. The Nintendo DS has beaten both it's Q2 2006 and Q2 2005 YTD by ~ 100k and 2.5 million respectably
- The DSs 2007 YTD by Week 22 is just shy of 130,000 units. It is guaranteed to beat it's 06 (Wk. 26) YTD AT LEAST two weeks earlier by Week 24

B. For the Nintendo DS to beat it's 2006 YTD by the end of Q3 (Week 39 2006: 5,790,402), it would have to sell an average of 140,000 units each week for the next 11 weeks
- The DS, before the release of new colors was averaging 105k - 120k each week, meaning for the first time this year, the DS may not beat its 2006 YTD
- Some key releases and perhaps a price drop however, may just propel it WELL above 140,000, which could drastically lower the average it needs to beat Q3 2007

C. The Nintendo DS in Q3 2006 (Week 27 - Week 39) sold 2.24 million units; For the DS in Q3 2007 to beat it, it would have to sell an average of 179,000 units each week for 11 weeks
- That might just be impossible at the DS's current level. But it's so close considering how absolutely insane DS 2006 was selling.

The PSP has sold 5,685,800 units since launch ( 2 and a half years into its life ).

IF the PSP manages to stay with relevance long enough in the japanese market and have the longevity of the PS2 ( 8 years from March 2000 to March 2008, lets say ), The PSP will have sold, more or less 17,057,400 ( yeah, I only multiplied the actual LTD times 3, don't flame me, I only do simple math),

if it managed that, it would be a TREMENDOUS success, considering it's sony's first entry in the handheld market. Regardless of software sales, it would mean a PSP2 would be completely feasible.

sadly, the bad, mean IF can prevent this from happening.

Now on the other side of the coin, and by my simple casual math, if DS sells 18,258,465
units in 2 and a half years and nintendo manages to keep the system at a similar level of relevance in japan for the next 6 and a half years with new mario, new training games, redesing, etc. ( and considering Sony wouldn't launch another handheld in that timeframe) DS would have sold around... 54,775,395 units ?! ... O_O .... unheard of.

This crap math I have here is just for fun, don't flame me you nerdy sales gaffers. :D

(DS) Mushi King Super Collection - 20k (slow start)
(DS) Naruto Shippuuden - 20k (slow start)

Well, I'm sure that the numbers you posted are not at all likely. Simply the market saturation will begin sooner or later. We've already seeing that for the DS, because it's not supply constrained anymore (it seems).
For the PSP, I don't know. It is a fact that it's selling very well, considering that their software are almost absent from the charts (but with some appearances sometimes and some blockbuster like MHF2 too).
Much depends from Sony itself, because the installed base is relative big enough to permit to make profits (at least a lot more then on PS3), but Sony seems to be concentrated about PS3 right now and so PSP is alive thanks to third parties that are not bad after all.

It is not fair to compare the machine with the N64 or the GC because there are at least 2 differences: first, the lack of BIG first party sellers. Second, the great hardware's numbers. Again, Sony is making profits overall on hardware, where Nintendo didi overall on software. My opinion is that Sony could make a lot more profits on PSP if they invest some more resources in it.

absolutely.

PSP's YTD 2007 is already bigger than PSP's YTD 2006 and this is very important for the platform. It means that it gained relevance. Japanese do want the thing. Maybe not like a DS but it's doing well by itself, even without the software. Considering Sony is releasing new colors and a redesign soon, I think the longevity expectations of the PSP get bigger.

I do think it will surpass the 10 million mark at some point but I am not sure about the 17 million, seems unlikely.

As for DS, there are no signs of the thing reaching market saturation and the sales it achieves are definitely on uncharted territory. It could start declinig as soon as in 2 months or as late as in ?? 3-4 years?

I think the minimum it will reach after all is said and done and DS2 is announced is 30-35 million but knowing nintendo, I'd say they'll somehow get around it and keep the DS as relevant as in 2006-7 for the next years so.. who knows...

Sony and Nintendo Make Akiba Store Switcheroo

For something like ten years, the first floor of Akihabara retailer Sofmap was PlayStation territory. Not anymore. PS goods, games and hardware have moved to the third floor. What's in its place? You guessed it, Nintendo. Shoppers looking for Wii/DS consoles and games can easily find them on the ground floor. Retailers are a good source of info from the trenches, and this is very telling. That, or the move's to make things more convenient for elderly Nintendo customers. How thoughtful.
So, dumb question, but what's on the second floor?

Hey, the PS3 is black and the Wii is white, after all.

Somehow I don't think 'neonazi' is the image Nintendo was going for when they decided to make it white though.
