Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2013 (Sep 02 - Sep 08)

Clicking through the MobyGames page suggests a lot of Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time design staff got moved to Lord of Arcana at one point and then unknown from there.

I don't have FFXIV 2.0's credits handy to check my suspicion.

Well I don't think we're gonna get MH4 eShop numbers unless Capcom+Nintendo decide to share, but we probably know the approximate numbers of a few games to use as benchmarks. Someone can track those down I'm sure.

edit: for example, Nintendo once commented NSMB2 Japanese eShop sales account for about 5% of total sales. so it might be at around 100k now. That was a while ago though, so the %age could have changed.

Capcom will certainly put a PR for 2 million copies, as soon as next week even. The question is whether they'll include download sales or not. If they do, then we might have an idea of how many were downloads based on the first week sell-through.

Monster Hunter 4 has now sold more on the eShop than New Super Mario Bros. 2 and is #14 all-time best seller (3DS titles only).

Edit: it took Tomodachi Collection over 2 1/2 weeks to overtake NSMB2.

Came to post this but I see deathcobra has the news already covered. At this pace it might soon outsell TC digitally. Good chance for it overtaking NL at some point too.

Don't eShop sales include those from download cards? If this is true I doubt any title will overtake Animal Crossing.

We don't know and it is still too early to call but given the rapid pace of eShop sales of MH it definitely is a possibility. This is the first day with just hours of sales, we need to wait for the next days and weeks.

I'll actually contact NOE and see if they can answer this (it should be the same for each region).

AND It's now number nine above Tomodachi Collection.

I think this wasn't posted: Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy will be released on December 5 in Japan. Will this be the main-entry to drop below what IE1 did (~400k)?

re: Square-Enix

With FFXIV fixed and re-released I could see them allocating people to other projects. They probably won't keep a team of 300 working on expansions. Maybe Kawazu will finally get another game to work on.

they will relocate staff to existing big projects like XV, KH3 to get them out as fast as they can probably next DQ game even if it's in house. From what the new CEO has said, they will keep making a few big AAA games and everything else will be online, social mobile oriented, so I'm not really seeing them going back to making more console/handheld games like before.

The people who made FFT and FFTA games got merged into the FFXIV blob IIRC.

Do you have a suspicion why SE stopped making FF remakes on handhelds? The DS remakes sold rather well and since they haven't been developed internally to begin with, it's a little surprising that SE outright stopped making those.

It's even stranger when taking into account that the mobile remake of FFV was done half-heartedly at best. Trying to find a bigger market for remakes on iOS/Android makes a lot of sense, but I don't think that a full-fledged remake and a HD-fied SNES port really compete with each other. Sounds like it would be easy money SE for some reason isn't interested in.

Eh seriously Pokémon is coming out this year you know the franchise that is bigger than AC. If your talking about e shop only then maybe.

Could be but there's a limit on how many people you can put on these projects and their 1st Production Department is rather big. It's not like their games are pulling in Assassin's Creed numbers to justify huge teams. And I also don't see the point in developing a ton of competing mobile/social/online games at the same time.

Then again, I am no CEO.

This is a more likely reason why Bravely Default got rebranded as a new IP, and why they selected a new development partner instead:

sinobi says MH4 first shipment "far exceeding 1 million units"

(and for this worths azalyn's store sold out in a few hours)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I'm very interested in Bravely Default: For the sequel sales. It could be a good indicator of BD2's potential.

MH4 shipment selling out, more or less, makes next week's numbers slightly less exciting. The following weeks will mean more, and of course digital numbers first week.

Yeah, Asano wanted to do a new game but he's not a game designer, so he had to find a more capable developer. Wish they would get Matrix to remake FFV with Ito though.

FFXIV is still hardly a finished product even though it is at official release. the content past early game is extremely limited. even a lot of the "launch" features were pushed back to get the game out early. i imagine now that they've seen the strong sales they would keep working at it just as hard as ever to retain those subscriptions especially looking at how lucrative these games can be. i don't know if they need 300 but i bet they'd keep the majority of whatever team was making content for it at least until they get that first expansion out. it is going to be vital to set momentum for the game because otherwise we're looking at a huge cliff drop off for that game.

Talking about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, I wonder if it has finally been restocked.

That's apparently the same amount they gave two weeks ago. I don't know how many download cards have been shipped, but I guess the combined number of physical copies won't be too far from 1,5 million units. They'd better have a big second shipment ready for next week.

So, can we make comparisons between MH4 and MHP3rd lines? XD

So it looks like this now?
Animal Crossing
Pokémon AR Searcher
Denpa 1
Charisou DX
Denpa 2
3D Kirby
Puyo Puyo Mini
Monster Hunter 4
Pokédex
Shaun Sheep video
No matter how big a MH fan I might be, I would just download the damn game off the eshop. Those lines are ridiculous.

Have you seen the Limited Edition XL? It looks really good. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Yes. Including Virtual Console and DSi titles then it is #11 with SMB between Pokemon AR and Denpa 1, 10 Second Run between Denpa 1 and Charisou, and SMB3 between Puyo Puyo and MonHun 4.

Not saying you're wrong but I'd like to question how sales of a spinoff title are indicative of sales of a potential FFV or FFVI remake. I remember Hashimoto saying that they'd consider remaking FFV for the 3DS depending on how the latter performs so I guess it wasn't pushing the numbers they wanted when they decided on the iOS "remake".

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression that in a more finished state. I also forgot that they're doing Dragon Quest X internally as well... Looks dire for internally developed handheld games :(

How much production can they get right now with pokemon right around the corner? Does MC track download cards as well as Famitsu, would be interesting to see how big of an impact they have.

Is SE banking more on FFXIV than DQX?

Probably, the market for MMOs is huge and DQ doesn't have nearly the pull that FF does outside of Japan.

I agree that It seems a little far-fetched to me to make 4 Heroes of Lights sales responsible for the lack of FFV or FFVI remakes on handhelds. For one I'm sure that everyone involved in the project knew that it was a rather weird and experimental project (... and in the end a rather flawed one), but more importantly: If 4HoL sales were so disappointing that SE lost confidence in their FF handheld efforts, then why is their one (non-DQ) 3DS RPG a (spiritual) successor to that one game in particular? That doesn't really make a lot of sense to me.

Even with the sharp drop in sales, FFIV still sold a lot better than most other games in Japan -- and I can't imagine that Matrix' services are particularly expensive...

What s doing Matrix these days?

They are still working together with SE (and various other companies), but they shifted their focus to iOS/Android. FF Dimensions was by them, so was the FFV "remake."

Matrix has developed/helped on the development of about a dozen DS games, but so far they haven't worked on a single 3DS game. It's one of these things that show how reluctant Japanese publishers support the 3DS, despite its great sales.

Though, it might also be possible that Matrix is not available for bigger-scale (relatively speaking) handheld developments anymore for whatever reason.
