Pokken DX hardly moved the needle. Switch owners are starting to want more than Wii U ports

We've got Fire Emblem Warriors coming out in a couple of days, and then Super Mario Odyssey at the end of October. They're hardly going to be hurting for brand new games in the immediate future.

Why not, 300k was the barrier of success for a DS game in Japan.

Mannnnn blast from the past! hahaha BTW where is Laguna? :O

Also loved the couple of DQX bad results posts from the beginning of the thread to not talking anymore about them after knowing that it was given for free :_) hahaha

Anyway, pretty bad results for MvC:I but it seems that it's an undesirable product so any speculation about a Switch version is futile. Let's hope that Capcom can overcome this losing streak and have good results soon.

That... is not incorrect? Where's this mistake?

I seriously don't know where are you going with this and keep insisting. You said most Switch games are global success and posted some names. I asked if you have some numbers and the only number you had were 200k for Neo Geo and 70k for Puyo Puyo. The rest were from Shop rankings with no numbers at all. You can't call this a global success because it's not. It may be a good performance given the games but global success is another league. Clearly, you don't want to accept that what you said was not true (most Switch games are global success) so you keep draging this discussion without reason anymore. Since we have different definitions about global success, there is no point to continue discussing this.

Should we be legitimately worried about Capcom? I'm not super familar with their financials, but I know they aren't sitting on a ton of cash, right?

The system is still extremely supply constrained, right?

No I literally said there were multiple global successes. Then I listed some.

I guess my mistake was assuming you had a rational grasp over what global success means? If so I'm sorry, I won't make that mistake again.

Yeah and i asked you to post some numbers and you mentioned e Shop rankings. And i am the one that doesn't have a rational grasp over the meaning of global success. Oh wait, 70k is global success for you.

Whatever makes you sleep best the night...

They'll be calling Square Enix any day now to try and get Gaist Crusher vs. Gyrozetter off the ground. It even rhymes.

The cruel yet hilarious irony of Capcom trying to get their Pokémon is that I'm currently playing through their legit attempt at it in Monster Hunter Stories. It's a very good game, but it did not put up tremendously good numbers when it came out in Japan last year.

You’re arguing with someone who tried to compare DQX Switch vs PS4 as to put the PS4 in a better light.

I posted some relevant data for those games. And I mentioned rankings in the original post too as well as developer comments so it's weird you're suddenly so up in arms about it after the fact? If you want to drop Namco Museum and Sonic Mania from the list of examples then fine, we can wait another month for their publishers to come out and say how great they sold. I'll enjoy Mania in particular probably being the lead selling SKU.

Point taken. I should just stop while I'm behind.

The reason im worried is even their great games like REVII are way below expectations, and putting MHW on consoles is a huge gamble.

Nothing has gone right for them during this gen.

I'm not sure why they decided to localize it, since it probably won't put up great numbers outside Japan either.

Right, so people are jumping to conclusions and building entire narratives around that.

As long as they are ready to eat crow when it gets announced, it's all fine I suppose.

I'm always up for some delicious crow. But the best case scenario I can see is announced in late 2018 for a 2019 Japan only release. The west would then be lucky to get it by 2020, if ever. If that's the case, then crow is denied as far as I'm concerned.

Should've ported it to the Switch. Game with few a enhancements would be fine. Sucks. Maybe that's one of the ports Capcom is working on.

If they port Stories to the Switch I would totally buy it. I might get it eventually on 3DS if they don’t, but right now only a few 3DS games have lured me away from the Switch (FE Echoes and Metroid to be specific).

Look, if you agree with him, it's totally fine but don't bring pathetic excuses like this one, only to create some impression. Only thing i did was comparing the PS4 and Switch version of the same game, like we are doing recently because more PS4/Switch games keep releasing. Your post is highly offensive and provokes inappropriate response so i will leave it to that for now.

In any case, this is the post he is referring to, in case anyone wants to see if i tried to bring the PS4 in a better light, as he claims.

Good, you finally get it.

I am excited about MHW and I am probably will end up buying it, but I do feel the hype surrounding it feels super artificial. I dont think MHW will the be the breakout hit Capcom wishes and people expect.

The "hype" I see for MHW takes me back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale´s.

So, people are pretending to be excited for it? What does this even mean?

I'm not sure but maybe they're implying that a lot of Sony Fanboys are hyping it up because it's NOT on a Nintendo system and it's seen as some sort of win? I remember back in the day a lot of people hyped up PSABR to very high levels and it bombed as well.

Maybe to him/her the hype for MHW is message boards console war ammo and a lot of the people might not even buy it, they're just championing it?

Worst part is they have it in HD already.

Ha yeah I remember that game. Didn't a second one eventually come out too?

I've been saying forever, all this 3DS only shit coming out this year and next year needs to be cross gen. I don't care how the games look. Release a Switch version. The market would rather have a 3DS port at 10x the resolution with some AA and upgraded texturss than actually buy 3DS software. Release it on PS4 too while your at it. It doesn't really matter. What they are doing now is dumb.

They need to do the PSV/PS3->PS4 transition and make these games available on new hardware. It's just dumb not too. I don't really buy arguments about resources. They are not going to lose money doing this vs releasing software in a dying software economy.

Port to Switch, charge $60, complain that Switch owners didn't buy it.

If USF2 is a sign they'll make bank lol.

Worst part is they have it in HD already.

MHS_Sep042015_01.jpg

The game has great graphics. Improvements should be easy for a system with like 10x the power. I get Nintendo wanting to shore up the 3DS but I also dont get Capcom not wanting to take advantage of a console launch period.

Nah I think there's genuine hype MHW. I'm just not not sure there's more hype than Nier, P5 and Nioh etc. Because we know how they sold in the west and I don't think that would be enough for capcom

I agree with this. I find the hype to be genuine but some of it is fanboyish. I think it'll do one million in the west across PS4 and Xbox.

If he is then that's a pretty stupid thing to say. Looking at the game, it's nowhere near comparable to PSABR and I've actually seen very little instance of Sony Fanboys using this game as console war ammo. I don't really understand where this is coming from.

I don't think Capcom would be too happy with 1mil for every non-japan territory but I haven't been following their projections or expectations for it.

Oh come on... a ton of the posts in the reveal thread were nothing more than variants of:

[I've completely ignored the series while it was not on my favorite branded platform, but now that it's coming home I care again]
or
[Nintendo hardware held this franchise back, it's about time they moved it to power platforms again].

??!

lol, no I don't?! Waiting forever on having this "mistake" explained for me.

Don't worry. You even partialy corrected it by removing Namco Museum and Sonic from the list.

I don't remember much hype for Nier to be honest before launch. Feels like the game exploded after the positive impressions. Ni Oh from the other hand had the demos but i remember that people weren't sure how it would sell.

Is switch selling 2-3mil in Japan over a year even that good? I know it’s Japan and all but is that better or worse than a typical year for 3DS for example?

How much will switch ytd be globally? If they hit 10mil that’s pretty good but if not will it even be a 40mil system if it’s lifetime is 4-5 Years?

Yea, every major title they have releases recently has underperformed, some like MvCI look like they may substantially underperform. Even games that were well received critically aren't selling like we would expect (REVII).

On top of that, I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. MHW looks like it will sell well, but like you said it's a gamble and they appear to have really high expectations for it as well.

It'll do more than 1 million.

Factoring in the later Steam release as well, I think it has quite a lot of potential to hit 1.5/2m life time in the West. I think the biggest question mark and concern (?) is how it does in Japan.

That thread was a clusterfuck of fanboyism on both sides and since then, the only intrinsically fanboyish comments I see regarding Monster Hunter World are coming from Nintendo fanboys.

Nier had plenty of hype it had the previous games fans, platinum games fans and it's appealing aesthetic.

I think 2.5m when all is said and done. Capcom is really aggressive with sales and Steam is going to open up a huge market for the series. Japan I think between 1.4-1.5m units. I'm on the higher end of predictions.

I think the game is going to do really well. I just question Capcom's franchise strategy.

All these ~1m estimates in the West baffle me. I just want the game to come out and do good numbers so we can stop talking about Capcom abandoning Nintendo and talk about the actual strategy for the franchise going forward. Because I think splitting it into portable and mainline after they just merged it is a mistake.

Nier-level sales in the west for MHW would be a catastrophe for what Capcom is trying to accomplish with it.

That’s the problem with trying to use recent success stories like Nier or Persona or whatnot. Capcom has to aim even higher than those already successful projects.

I just don’t see it.

Personally I understand Laplasakos point to a degree that you can't assume that because publishers are happy with sales a system has the potential to whip out huge software sales. You do need some titles breaking 500k and 1m+ sales to help paint a picture of an environment that can foster big sellers.

But on the flip, nothing on the Switch besides Nintendo's games ever had a shot at 1m so its a null observation. The biggest third party release on the system thus far is NBA 2K. The next biggest is Fifa. (Well okay technically Rabbids is the biggest 3rd party release but you know, obvious reasons there)

Of the titles we do know the sales potential is there. But we dont have definitive proof of anything huge yet. Fair enough.

Can't take dude seriously when he's saying we need to wait for hard numbers about Sonic Mania selling well on Switch.

-_-
