Many may have suspected it – but now science has confirmed that men who take lots of selfies are a bit… um… different.

Men who use Instagram-style filters to add that certain ‘je ne said quoi’ to their snaps are the most extreme.

The study at Ohio State University found that men who post endless selfies were more likely to have certain, ah, unwanted mental traits, such as psychopathic behaviour.

People who used filters to edit shots scored even higher for anti-social behaviour such as narcissism, an obsession with one’s own appearance.

What this suggests about the mental health of many of our favourite celebrities, we can only speculate.

Assistant Professor Jesse Fox, lead author of the study at The Ohio State University, said: ‘It’s not surprising that men who post a lot of selfies and spend more time editing them are more narcissistic, but this is the first time it has actually been confirmed in a study.

‘The more interesting finding is that they also score higher on this other anti-social personality trait, psychopathy, and are more prone to self-objectification.

This woman dates my cousin, they both hate eachother and always break up then get back together. One day he was trying to gtfo and she beat the shit out of him. The called the cops and she freaked out locked herself in the room and gave herself a black eye. He instantly got arrested even though he was all bloody and now has a criminal record. She posts a shit ton of selfies.

I know a guy who failed a psych exam to become a police officer here in Australia. Posts more selfies than anyone I know, male or female.

There was a fatal stabbing in Copenhagen (Denmark) some days ago.. a man from here (Faroe Islands) was arrested.. out of curiosity I went to his facebook profile to see If I knew him (We are only 48.000 people here, so it is possible).. first thing I noticed was LOTS of selfies .. lots of them.. never seen so many before (Ok I never use facebook but I look over my wifes shoulder while she browses once in a while)..

It seems like many girls who post photos tons of selfies are also very insecure. They feed off of attention, edit their photos and generally just look for praise to feel better about themselves. I'm talking about those with an Instagram only full of selfies, like 500 pics of themselves. And of course, I don't believe all of them are like that. I enjoy those with particular posting styles, like "make-up of the day" or "outfit of the day". That seems far more reasonable than posting just your face to post it without having any particular thing to show.

I can't find a link to the actual research anywhere.

Did the subjects self-test with the Hare Psychopathy Checklist, Eysenck, PDQ, what? Even so, these tests have not been reliably validated as diagnostic tools.

It's clickbait stuff like this that give social sciences a bad name.
