Men who post lots of selfies are more likely to be psychopaths

What about people who take endless pictures of their food?

I once met somebody who used to try and stop people from eating at certain points in their meals so they could take pictures of their grub, and their own to upload onto instagram. Told her to piss off and let me eat my food after the second or third time.

Thankfully, I haven't seen her since. Some people have a weird food photography fetish these days.

I think this applies to both men and women. How would a woman taking countless pictures of themselves be any less narcissistic than when a man does it?

It's odd that they studied a behavior exhibited by both genders but only dug into the underlying psychologies of one gender.

Encourages/reinforces stereotypes. We can extrapolate that it probably includes females too, but pop culture has kind of OK'd selfies for women more than men, so the backlash to this study and article isn't going to be nearly the same level as if it had included women. It's basically one of those off limits areas.

I mean either way this encourages stereotypes. It's just slightly less risky to focus on men.

At Thanksgiving both my brother and sister took pictures of their plate before they started eating, then put it on Instagram, and then spent the next 10 minutes look at the plates of people who did the same thing. Then at the end, they took pictures of their empty plate and uploaded it, and then spent another 5-10 minutes looking at empty plates from other people. Note that my sister is 23 and my brother is 27.

They have the tendency to replace a beloved actor with an awful one from Hollywood. And they like to cover up their shitty writing with nanomachines.

My older brother 26 just started doing this when we were home over the holidays. I'd cook the family nice meals, and he would spend 5-10 minutes of the meal taking pictures and picking filters... then send the pic to his girlfriend. I guess they like to make eachother jealous? He's incredibly smart and practical about everything. I don't get why he started doing this.

Seems about right. We have a really narcissistic society where people think that other people give a shit about what outfit they're wearing right now, or that they're having a good hair day, etc.

What is with GAF's nonstop hatred of selfie culture and social media? God forbid people do anything to make their lives feel little less mundane than they really are.

I'm sorry most of you aren't pretty enough for selfies, or don't get enough likes for bitching about people's social media habits.

None of this fucking matters. Who cares what people do? Block them and move on.

I don't know about psychopathic behaviour, but narcissism is likely.

That's why i can't do Instagram at all. I've said many times that even facebook is too much, no more social media after that.

I don't really understand it either, I'd rather hang around with people who are happy with themselves than people bitching how life sucks and that nobody likes them.

*Shrugs*

Sounds like a bullshit study and a shoddy scapegoat for some gaffers to fuel more hatred towards selfie culture and social media to me

You know who are always criticizing sefie people?
Ugly people, that's who.

You think I'm Joking?? YOU THINK I AM? I'M NO PSYCHOPATH YOU MOTHERFUCKER I SWEAR IF I FIND YOU YOU'LL HAVE MANY MORE HOLES TO BREATH FROM

... that's... not good. And scary.

And I'm attracted to guys who aren't afraid to be a little bit into their looks.
It's too much of a gender role for women to be into their looks, but not men.

I don't think it's unhealthy for men to care about their looks or take selfies.

I'm assuming this doesn't refer to people that have 1 or even 20 selfies but if you have 300 photos and they're all pictures of yourself. I don't know if theres a specific quantity but there comes a point where it's just too much.

Very unsurprising. Psychopathy is associated with a grandiose sense of self-worth, is it not? I mean, this seems obviously true. Of course, people who don't understand statistics will now start thinking that all men who take selfies are psychopaths.

Many may have suspected it – but now science has confirmed that men who take lots of selfies are a bit… um… different.

Yea this wasn't too surprising, especially this:

People who used filters to edit shots scored even higher for anti-social behaviour such as narcissism, an obsession with one’s own appearance.
