Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
The purchase and keeping it multiplat makes sense if Sony was more after the IP for movies/tv shows. Could have there own star wars in the making now.

As much as I love destiny it's player base is nothing next to the likes of Cod so has to be another goal here.

I think its fair to say that some of these acquisition announcements are causing a few people to lose thier mind.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I'm more interested in the games. If these acquisitions translate into more games I'm totally for it.

Service being on Sony and Nintendo has long sailed, that was done and dealt. It's not happening anytime soon or at all, if so you'll be looking at a few years, and even then Sony could have their own gamepass settled on PC and other consoles, considering this is the future where we're heading.
Nvidia is a different ordeal, it would be giving them 95%
Microsoft on the other hand will be getting third in place if the deal goes through.

It is unlikely to happen but a possibility considering Microsoft may want to buy more companies in future ? I do not think anyone expected them to spend 70b $ after they bought Zenimax for 7.5b $.

People (including myself) are confused why Sony would buy Bungie, so I've been thinking about the pro's in owning a multiplatform studio.

Owning the Tiger engine come first to mind - this is/was a proprietary engine developed by Bungie for Destiny and probably more future Bungie games.

In a Reddit AMA, Chris Kosanovich, Engineering Manager at Bungie stated:

“Regarding the engine, Aldridge may speak to this more but every engine I've ever used has strengths and weaknesses. I certainly would not classify the Destiny engine as 'archaic' and I certainly wouldn't want to try to build Destiny in any other engine. Of course there are processes that are slow and we're making improvements to address our tech debt. Not totally sure what you mean about a 'new engine in future titles' but we updated the engine from D1 to D2 and continue to update the engine during D2 development. We'll never make a whole new engine and move destiny to it, but any future games that Bungie makes wouldn't necessarily need to use the Destiny tech if it doesn't make sense for that game.”

Destiny: Six Years in the Making - GDC 2015

There's no doubt the Tiger engine is a beast - or have become one. Since I played Destiny in 2014 it's easy to see the improvements today.

So what can Sony use this engine for? - Firewalk Studios who consists of past Bungie devs and who's making a multiplayer game may need an engine for their game.

From Firewalk Studios website:
"Firewalk Studios is a new game development studio whose mission is to spark incredible multiplayer experiences that inspire memorable moments. We believe the brightest memories in gaming often come from playing and sharing experiences with each other. We are excited to be part of the ProbablyMonsters family of studios, and we are currently working on an unannounced, original IP that is being published by our partners at Sony Interactive Entertainment. We look forward to sharing more about our latest project in the future."

To me, this looks like something the Tiger engine would be perfect for - cause it looks a lot like Destiny.

The Firewalk Studios devs even have experience with it and if they're allowed to "borrow" everything from Bungie - the development of their game would go smoothly.

I want to see some action with Japanese companies merging or being acquired. The big one I want to see is the acquisition of Konami.

I want someone that can leverage all those Konami properties, to buy them up or merge. Unfortunately, I think with Konami's other businesses they are worth a lot of money and that will be nearly impossible.

It's a shame that Konami is letting all their big properties like Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill die off.

Them releasing a bare minimum effort or compilations is the norm for them nowadays. I don't want to see temporary licensing deals or exclusives to one platform.

I would rather someone buy them and start inovating and releasing new games in their legendary catalog every 2 to 3 years. Wishful thinking I know.

Still waiting for the first Japanese studios. I feel like it's not coming and the next announcement will be again someone very few people are predicting.

I think you are actually off by a lot. The Tiger engine though impressive, has so many issues code base wise within Bungie. Hence they locked content in the vault as to not cause more bugs when they added new expansions. My understanding is they either have done a complete re-write or moved on to another engine. Decima would be a great engine for them to use.

Honestly we wont know until they show their next project.

There's a lot of Tech Debt in Tiger engine that anything new project wise thats not Destiny would be in a new/different engine:

The only thing that would make a ripple at this point is some kind of Nintendo partnership. What else is there? Take Two and EA is not happening.

DRM gets cracked. Piracy exists. On PC you still have options and alternatives.

On consoles, the hardware gets banned from the single network you have access to, if it's modified.
I wasn't making a "pro-console" comment. The other guy was saying "PC folk" would "rebel!" and I just proved him otherwise since PC folk were the very first to adapt to digital only sales and give up the freedom.
Yes, your console can get banned but so can your PC hardware? So what's the point? If you counter the argument with "well you can spoof it!", so can you on console!? Nearly everything that you could say in terms of "but on pc!!" when it comes to gaming also applies to console. You can hack, you can crack, you can sail the seven seas on PC and console alike? Modding would be the only exception I would even be able to come up with on the spot.

Well, your account getting ban goes for anything be it console or PC. Secondly, you're assuming the console player buys disk and the stats show buying digital is up, so again, you'll be back to square one if you're banned like you said could happen. And lastly, I don't know what your statement has to do with the convo myself and the other guy was having about the acquisition and how it affects PC. I don't have to convince myself of anything. I don't foresee a situation where PC gamers will settle for locked out content and forced to a subscription service as the other gentlemen replied. But yeah...

Yes digital is up now. I was making a statement about you saying PC gamers would rebel, while PC gamers were the first to adopt digital and give up disc. With the rise of Steam, we (as I am mainly a PC gamer myself) accepted the risks and there was little resistance. Yes, Digital also works on console the same way on PC, but you can still buy all big console releases on Disc these days, but you cannot do the same on PC. Most "physical" PC releases are simply a Steam/Origin/uPlay-Code in the box that adds the game to your account. Consoles still have the possibility to mitigate that. And even if your console gets Hardware banned, you can still play all your Console Singleplayer games that you own on disc and sell the multiplayer games and make some buck. You cannot sell a Steam account that you were banned from and I'm not talking VAC ban. When it's gone it's gone.

MS spent $75b buying 2 pc stores. Now Sony spent $3b on bungie, and will buy big publishers in the future.

Valve owns steam, which has big pc market share. It's value is between $4b-$10b.

If anyone of these 2 companies buy valve, we pc community are screwed.

Future now is bleak.
As long as they keep producing PC games, we're fine. I don't care who owns who, so long as the games keep coming.

Why won't MS just outbid for Valve if that happened?
Valve didn't like MS because back on the 360 they didn't want to let them update games with free content without getting paid, not sure if the relation has changed since. But back then it led to Gabe appearing on stage at Sony's E3 conference to tout the PS3 version of Portal 2 which would feature Steam integration.

It seems that Valve and Sony have enjoyed a good relationship since then with Sony games appearing on Steam and Alyx potentially being a launch title for PSVR2. That's why I think that if Valve did sell it would be to Sony rather than to MS. Since it's not publicly traded they can decide who buys them if they even decide to sell.

That's what they said - I think it's a money "problem" tho'. Lock old stuff away, so customers can buy new stuff.

You do realize that us PC gamers haven't owned games in like 10 years or more, right? If your Steam/EA/Whatever Acc gets banned your game library is done for.
On console, you could always just make a new Profile on the same console and throw in the disc and be up and running again. Can't do that on PC if the game isn't on GOG or DRM free.
So I don't know who you're trying to convince.
Most of my ps4 games are digital. If I get banned, I would lose those games. Same on steam, and Nintendo.

That is the downside of digital games.

Dewritos Pope you mean.

This dude is so thirsty for attention after nobody gave a fuck about his miserable award show.

He's worse than Clown Tom and Tom H is pretty clowny, but is he worse than Grubby Jeff? We should create a hierarchy of these shitposters. Shrier is definitely at the bottom.

Why are people always asking for someone to buy them? Serious question. Seems to me if they are that loved, it might make sense to not shake things up.

Because some people don't want other people to play the games they like unless they play on the same piece of plastic and belong to the same herd. 😂

It's an absolutely brain-dead stance, but some people will think like that anyway. 🤔

Never claimed otherwise. But you chose to buy games digital on your console. You don't even have that choice on PC. Physical box? Steam code inside.

The store is what matters.
I have more than 100 games on steam. 3rd party sell their games on that service.

While it's great to have multiple launchers on pc. They don't come close to steam.

For the love of God and all that is holy, PLEASE Nintendo just buy Capcom!!!!

Good luck making Resident evil look great, and make strides in their engine. They see the money they are getting on PC, no way.

Monster Hunter is the only big title that sells on Nintendo. Even Resident evil doesn't do as well.

Thank God capcom will listen to reason and not people like KingGHidorah.

Physical doesn't have dlc. So I still need to buy the dlc digital.

All your dlc would be lost, if you get banned.

Market Cap hasn't be 20Bn in the last 12 months, it dropped to $45bn. You want to source that information?
I didn't use market cap, I used net worth. I used net worth because Valve isn't publicly traded so net worth was what I could get and i compared to another net worth.
