But who gives a shit about Bungie?
They created Halo and Destiny, two of the biggest AAA FPS ever. Sony wanted top FPS games.
They created Halo and Destiny MPs, two top MPs ever. Sony wanted top MPs.
They created the Destiny, top GaaS. Sony wanted top GaaS.
They created Halo and Destiny, two of the biggest IPs in gaming very influential. They are working on more new IP/games, and Sony wanted them.
Destiny and probably their future IPs are good material for movies or tv series, Sony is interested on that.
They generated Billions with games like Destiny, Sony wants them.

I don't think Sony can afford Valve.

I think the real ball buster would be whoever, if anyone, acquires Take Two. GTA is an institution.
I feel like this is more likely, and it makes sense with some of creative departures, and their love of $hark cards and so forth.
They could just drive GTA into the ground, make the worst one yet, most fans won't wise up until it's been remastered two or three times.
I feel like GTA will be a metaverse vr amusement park in a decade or so.

Thats Sony Group investment budget over 3 years (and thats not just PlayStation thats Sony as a whole). 18 billion to 2024, stop posting rubbish for crying out loud.
As I remember there was some other, newer, article about this mentioning that Sony had spent around $4B at the end of 2021, so after Bungie they have a remaining budget of around $10B until March 2024 (if they don't review it).

Remember when we all used to argue about games?
LMAO, instead of console wars it will be Storefront Wars. Eventually, and I hate to think about it, but it will be a battle of the streaming wars. Whoever has the most sought after developer exclusives win. What a bloodbath.

#4 is like if you buy the far cry 6 ps4 version you can automatically upgrade it to the ps5 version with the inherent enhancements. I bought the disc for PS4 and upgraded for free. PS4 version was $30 for the disc instead of $70 for the ps5 digital.
Then no one would buy the PS5 version... It's just a loop hole to save $10. Lol

It's hard to reconcile these statements;-

"Competition in the market is healthy"
"Oh, great now I have to buy all the consoles to unlock all the content I want"

I think it's fine as long as it's a very clear second-runner increasing their competitiveness and appeal.

I think if they really want to make a power move EA or T2 are their safest bets. Both of them have cool IPs but also Sony could use GTA as leverage to keep COD on PlayStation.

It's very hard to buy Take Two because they have their own expansion plans, which is why they bought Zynga. Shareholders won't be interested in selling when the company can only get bigger. GTA5 is the most succesful game of all time, so with GTA6 on the horizon?

EA, let's see what happens with FIFA. If they lose the name rights, with Battlefield as is.... they could be for sale in the near future.

It's all about SE and Capcom, they get everything with them. IP, studios, single player and live service, movies, anime. It's the key, and they get to preserve Playstation legacy too. And can they afford to lose these pubs to MS? You think AB is bad? That would be way more damaging for life long PS gamers. COD is just a military shooter in comparison, easily replaced.

I'd get your point if Sony/MS were actually opening up new studios..
But since they are just buying existing ones this doesn't make much sense. Why would I be happy about having to buy another console to play games that I was originally going to be able to play on the one I already have?

Maybe the FTC should look into Tencent and Sony then.
Your joking aren't you? MS are a mega corporation just like Apple, Google, Amazon and Facebook. These companies the FTC will be keeping an eye on. They don't want these companies dominating in everything they are involved in.

Please be something good. Something that isn't taken away for money, buy something that is being created by it.

We are the losers when we see big platforms acquire Bungie or Activision. Yeah I don't care about Destiny 2 at all, but no idea how cool it would be for Xbox or PC gamers that would like that game if it were to go PS exclusive (no idea yet).

My favorite would obviously be Konami IPs or something. That would be the perfect deal. Just the IPs like Metal Gear, Dino Crisis, Silent Hill etc. and bring them back to life. Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony I don't care.

How is #3 in the gaming space with 12% of the market dominating. Explain.

If that results in better games, which I believe it will, yes.
How does exclusives correlate with better games? I mean I'm a fan of the acquisitions too, but for very different reasons than you write in the OP.

In most acquisition cases for Microsoft, they are saving very talented people who may have fallen short in recent times. Ninja Theory was on their way out before Hellblade. Double Fine too. The acquistions give a sense of stability and relieve uncertainty for the studios who agree to be acquired.

For Sony, they are offering a similar stability but also with this most recent purchase of Bungie, it means finally they'll make new games again, even though they won't be exclusive.

I couldn't care less if Starfield or Elder Scrolls 6 is exclusive or not. I'm playing both on PC regardless. I'm happy that there's a structure being formed to protect some of these companies who make great games. They will be more prone to taking bigger risks, which means the games will grow creatively. I feel that the consolidation of power is going to eventually rid us of so many sequels and remakes. The time for unprecedented innovation is just over the horizon. At least that's how I view these things.

That's the one thing nobody will be able to force onto Microsoft. The people making this happen are human beings. It's been established that the work conditions and workload at Activision Blizzard was simply too much. The pace of releases, the crunch, the high turnover of employees that would lead, the difficulty in bringing new people in. Being able to guarantee specific things on certain platforms is a privilege, not a right, and the human beings doing the work will always come first.
That makes absolutely no sense. Crunch doesn't happen because games are multiplat. wth?

Well, the FTC havent really been that effective then.

Sounds about right, but it's important to note this is not just the PlayStation division (although that will obviously get the lions share).

"Aniplex has officially acquired all shares of Lasengle from DELiGHTWORKS, the company announced. As previously announced, the entirety of DELiGHTWORKS’ games business was succeeded by Lasengle, including the Fate/Grand Order development team and operations."

For reference, Aniplex is owned by Sony Music, and Delight Works is the developer of the mobile game Fate / Grand Order. In the past year Sony Music generated approx $1.1 billion from its mobile game segment, which is separate from its $25 billion PlayStation business.

The president of Lasengle is Yoshinori Ono, previously known for his role at Capcom being in charge of all their fighting games, eSports and the Street Fighter brand in particular.

This is no longer a battle between small time console manufacturers who are trying to get you to buy an exciting new box. These are mega corporations trying to own everything to maximise profit, You don't cheer when Tencent or Disney buys another chunk of western culture, then why cheer for Sony or Microsoft when ultimately they are doing exactly the same shit. Consoles aren't going to exist in the near future and if they do they will be the least interesting consoles you've ever seen, shitty PC's for poor people. Sony and Microsoft will just be 2 massive publishers trying to leverage their control to suck more of your money. The fun 90s console war take is completely out of date.

For me, it guarantees the publishers enough money to make games.

Bethesda were struggling with money, and Activision went all in on CoD.

As long as they have money to make games, I am OK with it.
