Meta Quest 3 | OT + Review Thread |

is there anyway to share the screen with a mobile so we can all see what the player sees? is that even a thing?
The Meta Quest app lets you stream the player's screen over wifi. I have it set up on an iPad to turn Beat Saber into a sort of party game.

I have read countless people (search reddit) say using VR devices outdoors in direct sunlight destroys them. Just keep that in mind I guess.
The only sunlight problem I've heard of is if you leave the headset in a sunny spot, like near a window, the light can be focused onto the screen so it melts a little line of dead pixels as the sun passes across it.

But hasn't it been confirmed PSVR2 wil get Alyx? Sony said they're making it compatible with PCs, so it will get everything PCVR has if so.

As far as games for the kids, the normal stuff Beat Saber, etc seems to be the go to. Depends what they're in to mostly. More hardcore games like AC: Nexus or Asgard's Wrath 2, RE4, or lighter sports-like multiplayer stuff like Walkabout Mini Golf or Table Tennis etc. There's some popular FPS choices too, but I'm not super familiar, and you also can sideload games like Doom/Half-Life, etc.
The Quest subreddit is filled with nonsense and hyperbole. Don't allow light to freely shine into your interior lenses, but it's perfectly fine to play outside (I do often).

This. As long as you have the headset on in the sun, you are good. You just can’t leave the lenses exposed to direct sunlight for an extended amount of time.

I got the Quest 3 Elite Strap & AMVR Facial Interface and damn, what a difference this combo makes. So much more comfortable, no more lense-fogging, and the light-blocking nosepiece makes experiences so much more immersive.

Having a blast with my VR experiences! Red Matter 2 has been amazing.

I have the AMVR facial interface as well. It’s amazing. The silk cloth face piece feels so good, and like you said, I get zero fog as well. I got it mainly for that, as I have prescription lenses, and don’t want them fogging.

It’s pricey for what it is, but the results are worth the price, if that makes sense.

As I wrote recently in the other thread, I heartily recommend playing Portal 2 VR if you have a PC to connect to your Quest.

It scales down extremely well (as usual due to running on Valve's source engine, which scales wonderfully to any hardware) so you won't need a beefy rig at all to run it.

It's well worth doing, and will give you a large-scale experience that makes the game feel new again.

Yeah I hadn't played it since the release on Xbox. In VR with a super high framerate, it felt genuinely like a reimagining of the game. Truly exceptional and I'd put it next to HL2 in terms of VR mods.

My total playtime on VR the past several years has probably been spent around 90% or more on Valve games

  • The Lab -- the best introductory VR game anywhere IMO. Great for giving a friend or family member their first VR experience, and surprisingly deep in some of the games, like the archery and the arcade space game which are both like full products
  • Alyx -- duh, still the best VR game of all time, and has tons of community mods that extend it even further
  • HL2/Ep1/Ep2 -- almost as good of an experience as Alyx, and so much content to experience like it's the first time. Perfect conversions, everything feels like it was intended for VR.
  • Portal 2 -- I'll probably spend a very long time in this world again. I already have a backlog of mods to play through now that I have this roomscale experience going.

Last night was fishing for me. Tonight I have to actually watch my LA Kings get murdered.

After the game, I’m gonna do some Power Washing. That game in VR is like meditation.

Spent three hours in Contractors yesterday... this might be the killer app that VR has been waiting for. Generationally way ahead of Population One, and it's completely accessible so I could play with friends on the Quest 2 while I ran the Virtual Desktop setup. Can't wait to dive back in today.

I planned on playing it tonight after the Kings game.

I played Contractors Showdown for about 3 hours tonight. My legs are tired, and it’s 1:40 am, and I’ve been up since 5:30 am.

This game is a ton of fun. The gameplay loop with contracts is going to be a lot of fun to play. I do with there was a solo mode.

While the game is a heck of a lot of fun to play, it definitely is not a good looking game. The gun models and equipment look great, as do the player models. The environment looks like a PS2.5 game. I think the Quest 3 is still just the Quest 2 version.

I have yet to be on a good team, the best I was able to do was top 8, but that was me playing on my own and not filling up my squad.

Agreed, the Quest version looks like ass, lots of wierd graphics culling and low resolution. I find it strange running about and the ground suddenly deforms like world building sim or something. I ended up buying the Steam VR version and played wirelessly which makes things better but still looks like ass. I would not touch this game on a flat screen, only VR could make me not care about all that.

Apparently Quest Games Optimizer makes it look much better on Quest but drains battery faster.

I played a lot more Contractors Showdown. I can feel myself getting better. I’m averaging 2-3 kills. The boosted refresh rate and resolution are very welcomed. Still wish there was less pop-in and PS2.5 textures.

The game definitely needs a Quest 3 update for the visuals.

So I spent most of my weekend playing Contractors Showdown on the Quest 3. While not a looker, it’s a fucking blast to play. I’ve been acting like Buster from Arrested Development with all the randos. Had a great time. Hey Brother!

Headshots are a must. I can’t recommend the gun range enough to test out each weapon, and how well they work.

Same. Have been playing it in all my free time.

I love getting a talkative group and working together, sucks when you get a group that go off in different directions without speaking though.

adding to the contractors showdown hype. It’s great. I suck at it. Little bit of jank with certain actions. Could use a Q3 visual upgrade for real. Maybe I’ll finally instal quest games optimizer.

I also crash to main menu decently often and can’t reconnect to the match.

Huge Star Wars games sales on the Meta store right now. I just bought the Tales of the Galaxy’s Edge+DLC for under $12(normally $35), and the Star Wars VR pinball for $8(normally $25). I already owned the Vader Immortal bundle.

It's underrated imo. It's not super deep but it feels like a big budget xb360 era game in style.

Cool to hear. I have almost purchased the game like 10 times. I couldn’t pass up on this deal for the bundle. I saw the game has a HD+ option with the quest game optimizer. So it’s good to know I’ll be playing it with a crisp resolution.

The graphics are good and it definitely has a big budget vibe. I felt like I was inside a star wars movie several times and it was actually better than most of the star war non VR games I've played in the last 15 years. It does start a little slow but after the second act it really picks up.

I’m really starting to get the hang of Contractors Showdown. Still averaging 1-3 kills a match. I’ve found a few places that I love to land.

The graveyard’s underground area is full of loot. My team and I always come out fully sticks and have plenty of cash.

What game?
Tales from the Galaxy's Edge?

Man, I'm about 2/3rds of the way through Red Matter 2, and god damn it's good. Red Matter 1 was really solid but the sequel takes it to a whole different level.

Probably the best game I've played this year so far.

Here's to hoping it's all properly activated and all that. Makes me not feel as bad about the ripoff cost of that cable. Hopefully I get more use out of this one than PSVR. Mainly was planning to use it with PC, but having the newer spec hardware onboard is a nice bonus. Considering this was paid for with trade credit from selling a XSS and a PS4, I feel like I got a great deal.

Anyone have any recommendations for the best bang for the buck software that shows this off?

Nice get.

Damn, I feel pretty okay about my Quest 2 for $200 a month or so back. Knowing what I know now I might have just sprung for a Quest 3. Haven't gotten a cable yet for my PC. Not paying 80 bucks for the official one, that's for damn sure. But the Oculus app thing doesn't like the random Anker cables that I had laying around when connected to either my case USB-C or the one directly on the mobo, so I probably need something.

Yeah, I looked at the cheaper cables, which were copper or gold for the most part but it seemed like those work great for some people and don't work at all for others. The fiber-optic ones seem to cost more but have the best success rate with these headsets.

Big 30% off sale going on right now with the store. Does it stack with referral codes?
Is there a way to see all the deals? I just checked the store and I see a very small handful of games on the front page that say they have the May30 discount, but that can't possibly be all of them.

The store is slow, do you have to let it load more as you keep scrolling down.

Pretty excited about the standalone lineup coming this fall. I travel so lugging my laptop less is good. The lineup looks better than alot of console lineups honestly. Hard to imagine Alien, Batman, and Behemoth will all suck looking at the devs behind them. I know I'm missing a couple heavy hitters.

That's awesome. My bro ordered a Quest 3 around Christmas and they delivered it but never charged him. lol

Sorry if this has been touched in this thread but has anyone noticed degraded eye sight for a good week or so after using VR for maybe an hour or two per day? Hoping it's just coincidence.

Blurry vision, as if dry eye symptoms were suddenly exacerbated. I've used VR plenty of times in the past (CV1 and Quest 2) but Quest 3 was the only one I seemed to notice it on. Likely just a coincidence...
Interesting you bring this up, as I've been experiencing blurry vision lately, but I've been on VR since the Quest 2 days early on, so unlikely to be related. How old are you? Do you find close-up vision is fine, but just long distance is blurrier and takes more effort to focus?
